  1. That does seem likely. Just give the O's whatever AAAA player or two that they want and get all the IFA money we can.
  2. One of the pop up guys this year. I would prefer a hitter, but if they go pitcher, Rodriguez is the type of arm I want.
  3. I had not noticed just how well he has been doing so far this year. Good stuff.
  4. I really hope they send a few legit hitting prospects there as well. Maybe a couple of Velasquez, Morel, Vazquez, Kelli or Moreno. The last 2 may or may not be legit prospects, but I want to see them.
  5. Just so we are on the same page, has there been an updated scouting report on Hjelle that has him gaining velocity? I've only seen 1 game of his and he was 90-92, and was around 90 much more frequently in the 4th and 5th. The reports I've read have him in that same range. I didn't see one plus secondary pitch, although I've seen reports that he has flashed a plus curve. The changeup is average. I will agree that the command is really good though. He's a strikethrower. But he doesn't miss any bats. K/9 under 8 this year in college is a huge red flag for me. It's a testament to his mediocre stuff if he can't even get collegiate players to swing and miss. You have to be 100% sure that Hjelle is going to be able to gain several ticks on the fastball and that he gets consistency with the curve and change. Just because a guy is tall and has a frame to add on to, doesn't mean the velo with increase. People always kept waiting for Chris Volstad, Jon Rauch and Mark Hendrickson to bump up their velos, but it never happened. Volstad is actually the guy that comes to mind when I see Hjelle. Maybe Chris Young on the high side. Neither are ideal, although early career Chris Young had a season or two that were solid.
  6. Not sure how good a mock is when it has Singer at #2 overall but anyways, here are some other names that have been mentioned around here: Triston Casas at 13, Jonathan India at 14, Cole Winn at 15, Ethan Hankins at 18, Trevor Larnach at 21, Ryan Weathers at 22, Kumar Rocker at 23, Noah Naylor at 25 and Connor Scott at 28. Pass. I don't want anything to do with Hjelle in the 1st. Solid, but not great stuff. Solid, but not great collegiate production. He's absurdly tall so all sorts of things could happen to his mechanics (even though he repeats them fine right now). At this point I'm over taking college pitchers in the 1st round that need things to fall right just so they can be a BOR starter.
  7. Dylan Cease: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BBs, 12 Ks, 6:2 GO/FO Sigh. Why do I do that to myself.
  8. Wow. Well that would be fun. With all the horsefeathers performance this organization has had so far this year on the pitching front, it would be nice to have a breakout or two from unexpected places.
  9. I need to see Underwood sustain this until July if I'm even going to buy it a little.
  10. I really would like to see him get a shot at starting. I missed that he was promoted. That's a great debut.
  11. Another start or two, with no improvement, I think it's then time to send him back to EXST. For sure. He's close to entering "Duane Underwood" territory for me as a prospect watcher, in that he's going to have to string together 3-4 terrific starts in a row for me to even get a little excited. Amaya, on the other hand, is killing it. Awesome to see.
  12. ODLC and Albertos continue to horsefeathers the bed so far. Abbott pitched well at least.
  13. If we're guessing pricetags, Gallardo at 1.3, Lopez at 1, Machado at 800k, and Morel at 500k. Again, these are obviously complete guesses. But, it's adding up to. 3.6, when we've basically got 5 mill. And obviously we've signed other guys too. The budget is probably spent. Which means we'd have to acquire money to go get Rodriguez. Who's still not mentioned with a team. It won't surprise me if lots of teams are trying to acquire the 2+ mill it's going to take to sign him. Pretty fun that Gallardo is 5th and Rodriguez 9th, in their rankings. Also, nice to see us listed with Machado. Go get Rodriguez somehow and use the MLB draft for restocking hitting, at this point. Yes on both. See what AAAA player the Orioles need to get in return for as much IFA money as possible.
  14. Mlb.com came out with their top 30 IFAs. They list the Cubs with Gallardo (5th) and Lopez (17), who we had heard about, but also have them on another LHP at the back end of the list named Joel Machado (28). That SS we heard them linked to, Rafael Morel, was not listed.
  15. Yay for groundouts, I guess?
  16. Thanks for that. Seems about usual for Assad. Maybe he can gain a tick as he hopefully continues to shed the ample baby fat.
  17. Little REALLY needs a good start today. Preferably with mid-90s velo.
  18. Yeah, it's weird that there hasn't been anything connecting Rodriguez to at least a few serious bidders yet.
  19. As davell said, the diminished velocity isn’t a new thing. It’s been diminished since spring of last year. That’s a problem.
  20. Most of that was spot on, but I disagree with the bold. Brendon Little should theoretically be blowing away the competition. As a 1st round college arm with supposedly 2 plus pitches when drafted, he should be mowing them down in Low A ball. Probably why he's the only guy I'm truly down (or high) on in the first few weeks.
  21. Decided to walk another, just for good measure. At least Abbott was solid.
  22. That's really disappointing, especially on Serrano. Although maybe we will see more promotions from the DSL to the AZL now that there are 2 teams there.
  23. https://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/6/9/15759876/2017-fabio-ratings-of-top-draft-eligible-pitching-prospects-from-ncaa He’s a contact manager who gets the whiffs and lots of popups Probably arguing semantics, but other than this made up stat from a poster on another message board, there is nothing that says Thomas was "excellent" in college. He needs to be striking 12 guys out per 9 to be "excellent" while walking 5 guys per 9. Even then it's debatable.
  24. Hjelle is probably keeping himself off the radar. He's just a really boring prospect, other than that he looks like a giraffe out there on the mound. Low-90's fastball. No plus secondary, although the curve has flashed it at times. He doesn't even have any eye-popping performance numbers that stand out. Just boring all around. I agree with you on being leery of prep arms that are curveball heavy. But then again, I'm leery of prep arms in general.
  25. I think you are getting him confused with someone else. Dude walked the entire Mountain West while at Fresno State and never had a SO/9 over 10. Even his ERAs were terrible for a collegiate prospect.
