  1. I watched a lot of Campbell last year and his fastball command was not good. Always possible that he changed something up and has improved there, but I really don't like those types if it can be avoided.
  2. This kid looks a crapton like a young Alfonso Soriano. Fun stuff. Also, that Jasson Dominguez guy the Yankees are signing looks freaking ridiculous. Stupid Yankees.
  3. Not only 2 sport guys, but draft prospects in general started getting mlb contracts right out of the chute. They best ones were demanding and receiving them. I remember Dylan Bundy getting an MLB contract as a one sport prep RHP. The owners didn't like how expensive things were getting, so they got rid of permitting MLB contracts to draft picks.
  4. We all knew they messed up. It was super high-risk/high-reward and they got burned. I think you could defend the selection at the end of the 1st round, but not with the #9 pick in last year's MLB draft. This will probably lead to MLB creating a special exception/rule that will allow teams to offer major league contracts to special 2-sport prospects now. At least something good will come out of it (at the A's expense). I can't even say it was high-reward. If it would have been a pick outside of their 1st, I could get on board with it as potentially high reward based on draft selection. But at 9 overall, there are other players available with the upside of Murray (which wasn't even that great for me). But I 100% agree with you on the second part. The rule change will go a long way towards keeping better athletes in baseball going forward.
  5. I'll have to go back and look, but most players don't go to the AFL the same year they're drafted. I think it's draft pedigree and not wanting "recency bias" to play a part in these evaluations. The people making these lists wonder how good could this player really be if 20+ players were taken ahead of them in the most recent draft. Has that player really jumped ahead of those higher draft picks (enough to warrant being on a top 100 prospect list) in such a short time? Like I'm not certain Nico Hoerner is a better prospect than Alec Bohm. He's certainly performed and hit at a higher level. Do some of the national guys have him ahead of Bohm?
  6. Kyler Murray chooses football (or at least is making a public show of it). A's really effed that one up.
  7. Some of it may be deference to this FO's success in drafting 1st round college bats, but I don't recall any other recently drafted players taken in the range of Nico that debuted in the top 100 of a national publication the next year. I mean, Ian Happ was taken 9th overall in 2015 and was only ranked 87th by BA before the 2016 season. Pretty impressive.
  8. If he did have surgery on the elbow, it wasn't TJS. He's participating down in Mesa right now, and I think he was throwing on the backfields as late as June last year before being shut down (perhaps later, but that's the latest I can confirm). I know the down time seems to get shorter and shorter on TJS recovery, but 8 months likely isn't possible.
  9. I'm surprised about that assignment (if that's the plan). I think he's ready for AA and I was surprised by how well he did in the AFL. He only had 7 games in Eugene and 4 in South Bend, I think Myrtle Beach is a pretty good starting spot. He'll still be able to move quickly if he hits as expected. And given that Hoerner isn't even throwing overhand right now yet, the presence of Ademan in MB doesn't mean much. Hoerner is probably going to DH for awhile.
  10. Whoa. Dude has been in the gym this offseason! He was MUCH skinnier this past summer. No horsefeathers. Look at the video (outside of the swing difference as noted, which is interesting and good to see in and of itself) he was skinner than Carl. That's some terrific stuff. I'm loving those swing changes as much as the physique changes.
  11. Yeah, I wouldn't put him that high, but as the 14th pick in the draft and a guy that received a large overslot bonus, I get it.
  12. Whoa. Dude has been in the gym this offseason! He was MUCH skinnier this past summer.
  13. Boo! I was craving some Richard Gallardo action.
  14. I don't know why I forget Joey Bart is a thing. He's gonna be a good one.
  15. I’m still super leery of that command comment, not the first time I’ve seen it. I just don’t believe guys with strong fastball command at his ages and levels of comp are giving up HRs like he has or popping off 5+ ERAs in Rk ball. I’d be happy to be wrong, but obviously suspect I'm not. I expect Richard Gallardo to swiftly pass him as the system’s highest regarded/most ballyhooed upside ceiling potential development arm. Speaking of Gallardo, have I mentioned he’s going to be one of the good ones? No Ryan Kellogg! If you want to see an extremely young guy with fastball command...That hard stuff up and soft stuff down approach is going to translate. I think he ends up somewhere around a well engineered 6’3” 220 of power pitcher. what? Didn't quite understand that one either. That's MLB.com for you.
  16. Thanks for the reminder. I had spaced that they pushed back the Instructs a few months this year. Here's hoping we get some glowing reports from AzPhil. I would specifically take one about Richard Gallardo sitting 95+.
  17. Didn't someone on here already throw out a Mike Minor comp for Steele, when talking about his potential impact out of the pen?
  18. I do like that they have Lange out of the top 10, unlike FG. It will definitely be interesting to see if Richan's secondary stuff plays up like BA seems to think it will. They are the only ones riding that particular train. Here's hoping they are just the first ones of many.
  19. freakin hilarious brett, really owned them! the addition of a 6-WAR first baseman is so cardinal lol. DORKS. Yeah idk what he’s going for there. Other than I forgot Mozeliak is a bow tie wearing goober. He was clearly playing on the "Cardinals aren't fun" sentiment. Nobody in that picture looks happy.
  20. I had blocked Jose Albertos from my mind until I read that blurb on him and got depressed again.
  21. [tweet]https://twitter.com/MinorLeagueBall/status/1068263187680817154[/tweet]
  22. Chisholm above Hiura? That's way too rich for me.
  23. I think this has much more to do with the lack of quality pitching being drafted by the Cubs in 2018 than it does Richan having great offspeed stuff. Even a 55 slider would be the top secondary offering in this draft class.
  24. Also from that chat: KW: Has Trent Giambrone shown you anything in the AFL to move him up your prospect list? 2:43 Eric A Longenhagen: Yeah, I kinda dig him. He’s an above average athlete with a swing I love, he can play a bunch of different positions.
