    Hated the Hannemann pick because of how old he was, his cost, and his lack of experience (due to missionary work or whatever it was). No way you spend a mil on a guy like that, IMO. Same here. I remember being floored when I saw that they gave Hannemann a 7 figure overslot deal. To be fair though, none of the guys I wanted at that pick have amounted to anything either.

    No worries. Little and his 5+ ERA in his second attempt at Single A South Bend is on the mound tonight to make you forget about Pearson.

    Definitely been fun to follow. The ISO stat is a bit misleading due to your qualifier of 120+ PAs (drop it to 100 PAs and he isn't anywhere near the top), but the rest of the game has been nice. I wish we had an idea how many of his boatload of doubles are "hustle" doubles so common in the lower levels of the minors, and which ones are legit.

    I think we would all agree on this. This is why it was so hard watching them piss away the 2017 draft on all pitching; especially since there were 2 first round picks. Stick to what you are good at, boys.

    Fairly certain that one of them just got rounded up the additional $1,700. That's what I assume. Still surprised they went with the 3 7-figure guys route for this class. Same. I think I like the idea of going hard for 2 upper tier guys (like Quinterro and Made) and then spreading the remaining million+.

    It's been a week since he pitched. I hope he isn't dealing with another injury already. Believe he’s currently sidelined with a groin injury, but not expected to be serious That's great news, all things considered. Thanks.

    Good stuff. Nothing really new in the article for people following him closely. He could be a late season addition if he continues dominating at AAA. It's been a week since he pitched. I hope he isn't dealing with another injury already.

    The only thing you can use the signing bonus to guage is how much the team likes the prospect. From that point you just have to trust the scouting department to do their job. I never understood why they didn't at least tweak their offer to Sierra, if the hypothesis about agreeing to the huge deal before his development stalled is true. Teams have backed out of deals recently if the prospect hasn't developed like he should, and the team has faced essentially zero repercussions. Hell, the Yankees nixed a deal of over $2 million to a kid who got fat and didn't progress, and just a few years later are signing a guy that some are saying is the best IFA ever. Obviously these are rare occurances in general, and you wouldn't want to make this a standard business practice. Perhaps the goodwill shown towards Sierra's trainer will pay dividends at some point.

    Whoa. No idea why, but I was under the assumption both Quintero and Made were going to get similar bonuses. Cubs obviously think this kid is pretty special to fork over $3 million.

    I'd be fine with keeping him in the pen and trying to fast track him to the bigs, but after the success (so far) of the Riley Thompson experiment, I'd have no issues if the FO wanted to go that route with McAvene as well.

    I'm sure you know that DSL performances are fairly meaningless, but Jose Lopez (CF - Cubs 2), Yohendrick Pinango (OF - Cubs 1), and Rafael Morel (SS - Cubs 1) are the more highly thought of guys.

    Yeah, he’s been really damn impressive in his first few starts. Stuff is there too, so it’s not just smoke and mirrors.

    Shane Combs is not a guy that you would think would take $50K to sign. Good stuff about Oquendo, though. What little I've been able to find about him seems interesting.

    Wes Saver has the signing amounts for a bunch of guys past the top 10. Not surprising, but none listed have been over the $125K limit. Collier/Laskey/Bigge/Reynolds have all gotten $125K. He also retweeted this from Johzan Oquendo: [tweet] [/tweet]

    May I ask why? Legit question, no snark intended. Projection, they seem to be doing better with LA pitchers with Nunez, he's still adding strength with a FB that sits low to mid 90s, ability to flash spin, but struggles with control/command. Seeing him not in Mesa is encouraging. Ah, gotcha. I thought he had some plus pitch that I hadn't heard about yet or something. Forgot to mention that Abraham Rodriguez is back playing baseball again. He is a bit of a forgotten man, since he missed all of 2017 and 2018 while recovering from a shoulder injury of some kind. But both AZPhil and John Arguello (RIP) really liked the way this guy swung the bat. I remember AZPhil saying he liked him a good bit better than Jonathan Sierra when they both came to Fall Instructs. He had a great stateside debut the other day going 2 for 3 with a 3B and a BB.
