  1. How does the trade demand scenario work? I've seen with Vasquez, and the like, but I don't know the rules. Based only on what I've seen lately, I thought only players on Arizona demanded trades.
  2. Agree about Bradley being cut, but I didn't know if the Cubs could say, "hey, we'll give you lots and you can get sort of get something for Bradley in this scenario" Really I'm trying to come up with a way to convince L.A. to trade Drew, as I don't know that they want to. He's an injury risk. Big time. But, at this point I'm afraid the Cubs are going to have to do some serious dice rolling if they are going to be good next year. Going "safe" with Mench, or the like is just not a big enough impact.
  3. J.D. Drew is an injury risk. He is currently recovering from three injuries. He is under Dodger control. J.D. Drew, when healthy can produce .900 ish OPS. He bats left handed. He plays right field. I haven't heard anything at all about the Dodgers not wanting Drew back, but does anyone think the Cubs could/ should try to make a trade for him? IF healthy, he is in my opinion the best player to solve several problems (OBP, vacancy in right field, left handed) for the Cubs. I'm not very good at these trade proposals, but do any of you think the Cubs could throw quite a bit at the Dodgers, perhaps offering to "take Bradley off their hands", and get him? This is all off the top of my head, but I think he's owed 10 million over the next 3 to 4 years. Risky, I know, and the only reason I could see the Dodgers dealing him. Thoughts? Bradley Walker Lee Drew Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno
  4. Mench is not a big enough difference maker, and not the type of player that three or four papers are reporting that they'll go after this week. (I.E. left handed)
  5. do you spend money on another starter in those scenarios? I would.
  6. At this point, Todd Walker may be the only left handed hitter on the team in 2006. I'd have to have upgrades, and preferably lefties, before I trade him. That said, I think he's gone. They'll probably end up with Soriano.
  7. I certainly fell for it! And in regards to the second half of your post, I'd take J.D. off their hands.
  8. I agree, but won't Dunn make between 8-10 mil this year? If there are no takers for Griffey, then will they be forced to move Dunn? I thought the same thing, but someone a while back felt that 10 million was way more than he'd get in arbitration. I guess it's closer to 8, but that's still a lot for Cincy.
  9. If they're grown men, I'm sure they can take it and not get all sensitive. So while we're disregarding people, we'll just call everyone who they feel applies whiny, stupid, arrogant, etc. Oh well, at least we'll finally be able to call out [you] for being a jerk all the time. You know, before you changed "wade" to "you" in the other post, I was trying to figure out what I'd done! :D
  10. Hmm, does anyone remember if there's some sort of clause with Wood about whether or not he can be traded?
  11. I don't care much for him, but doesn't St. Louis have a pretty good centerfielder already? I guess in their proposed trade for Pierre Jimmy would move to right. Not a good move, IMO.
  12. I hope this wasn't just to clear room on the 40 man roster while Jose Macias is still taking up a slot.
  13. Can you believe Hendry's benchpress? Dude was slingin' the weights!
  14. Dunn's not going to make 8-10 million. He only made 4.6 million last year, he won't double that in arbitration unless he gets a long term extension. EDIT And, my disbelief caused me to double post.
  15. Dunn's not going to make 8-10 million. He only made 4.6 million last year, he won't double that in arbitration unless he gets a long term extension. Really? I thought he'd get 8 in arbitration. Maybe he's more affordable for them than I thought...
  16. For us Dunn-lovers, Pena is the inexpensive player and Dunn is due to make 8-10 million. If the Reds deal an outfielder for financial reasons, Dunn or Griffey would be the ones to go, I would think.
  17. because our organization steers clear of guys who get on base, as a rule. hendry won't sign him because we might win with him, which would make his previous philosophy look worthless. GM's like hendry don't all of the sudden change their "conventional" ways for ways that are proven better, they just go out after guys who "can catch the ball", pitch one inning of relief, bunt, and/or steal bases and call it a day. if we make any trades, they won't be for abreu, who actually steals bases well. Seriously though, how do they not see him as "toolsy"? He's kinda fast, right? Good at defense. I just don't get it.
  18. How do you not offer 3 yr/33 million for Brian Giles?
  19. Again, those concerned about how much the team pays for certain players are only concerned that other needs will not be met. The Cubs operate on a budget. Yes, there's a lot of money to go around. Yes, it's not our money. BUT, there is a limit. Signing not so great players for big money may keep them from upgrades elsewhere. That said, I think they could do worse than Pierre.
  20. ESPN Sportscenter just anounced this trade complete.
  21. Or it could be a sign that Hendry will resign Burnitz and keep Patterson in CF. DISCLAIMER: I'm not saying that is what will happen No kidding. You know, if the upgrade in right is significant I'd be o.k. with Patterson. Like others have said (BBB in particular, I think) his value is so low, they're arguably better off batting him 7th or 8th and hoping for a rebound.
  22. A comment on the concern that the Cubs might be closing in on using up all their allowed free agent signings, could it be yet another sign that the outfield will be upgraded via trade?
  23. That's not precisely what I was saying, but I can see where you might read my words differently. It was a commentary, rather than an indictment. Regardless, my apologies to anyone who may or may not have been offended by my post. I've edited the post. In an effort to lighten the mood of the thread, I can't help but thinking of the commercial where they accidentally insult the cavemen. Seems like it's Geico, not sure.
  24. I don't think Neifi can be traded until June of next year without his consent.
  25. I believe the plan is to make a significant trade because of the following- The club has a lot of decent, young pitchers in the bullpen and AAA. Some other guys in the minors (besides Leiceter (sp?)) could potentially be Rule V casualties. Hendry has been quoted as saying the free agent market is thin and he expects more wheeling and dealing this off-season. Baseball analysts have been predicting the same. Neifi Perez was signed. With the money he was signed for, he will play quite a bit if he does not start. That's just the way it is. You do not (as management) spend a lot of money on someone who will not log some hours. This leads to- Todd Walker. Analysts have said he's attractive to other teams. Other teams have said he's attractive. Walker and the above player, combined with the following player, and Ronny Cedeno, give the team a glut of middle infielders. Rafael Furcal is free agent target number one. See above. I feel that this makes Todd Walker a goner. And I'm not discounting Cedeno as a goner. Combine that with the pitching surplus, Hendry's statements, and analyst statements, and I agree that trades are coming. There are holes in the outfield and Hendry feels they are best filled via trade, instead of Giles, is what I deduce.
