  1. It looks clear to me and makes a lot of sense. I don't like lack of hustle, but if he produces, I can live with it. I'd hate for this offseason's theme to turn into "I decided I like guys who hustle." Then you better hope the World Series doesn't turn on a hustle play. They gotta get there first. I think he was referring to Hendry's tendency to do copy the previous WS winner's approach. Yes. Didn't think I had to spell that out. Considering that the Cubs haven't been to the Series in 61 years. Say that again; 61 years. Wow. That makes a lot more sense then. I completely missed the reference. Me too, and I feel twice as bad because it was pretty dang clever!

  3. Yay, they fired Dusty, what will the next move be? Some say Lou Piniella, Or Joey Gir-ar-dee I don't really care, as long as they know- walks are often good things, even if you're slow.
  4. Definitely LOLed at that comment. Yes, that was outstanding!
  5. Why'd I have to marry, a girl from Downer's Grove. Now I watch the Cubbies, with my head stuck in a stove. If something ever happens, and I gotta marry again- I'll find a girl from New York, or maybe live in sin.
  6. Did you notice another quote in the same article? “You don’t want to beat a dead horse to death,” Baker said Monday He was just channeling the greatest trainer in boxing history- "Because you can't win, Rock! This guy will kill you to death inside of three rounds!"
  7. another story
  8. ....soon, I'd put Verlander in the pen. He's in unchartered territory as far as innings pitched and his starts have been suffering lately. It would take a huge collapse for them to not make the playoffs. Once there, they will very likely go with Kenny Rogers, Jeremy Bonderman, then ...probably Verlander. I would suggest they go with Nate Robertson. He's been pretty good and they'd be able to cut back on Verlander a little. If they win a couple of games in the next three days, I wouldn't let him start another game this season. Have him come out of the pen a time or two to see if that's agreeable. I know he gives them a great chance to win, but Robertson's pretty strong, too. Their peripherals are pretty close, and you get to protect the youngster a little.
  9. Am I right in thinking Prior is arbitration eligible again this year? I wonder what that settlement will look like.
  10. I'm no good at projecting lineups, but I think Hendry should see what trades are available. He said last year he'd look at winter meetings as a time to make a big deal and he got Pierre. This year I'd like to see that strategy again, only get a better hitter, a real good pitcher, or both. I guess I'm just afraid it's going to take more than the free agent market to improve the team dramatically. I understand it takes two to trade, but with free agents it's no gimme either, since a ton of teams will be wooing those guys.
  11. The Yankees wouldn't need to trade Arod for Aram though...they can wait till Aram opts out and just sign him outright if they wanted him, then trade Arod for even more. That fits better with what I want. Cubs resign Aram, trade a bunch of people for Arod and play him at short. If it'll help, I'll promise him I won't boo if I'm at the game and he makes a bad play.
  12. The Yankees should rid themselves of this guy. Perhaps trade him to the Cubs. And, before any of you criticize me for this idea, just remember that I'm real good looking and other people are paid a lot and have bad ideas as well.
  13. A "suggestion" from Modzilla = an offer you can't refuse.
  14. Yeah, I had seen it a while back and now it's happening again. I'm just glad to know it's not my own computer acting crazy.
  15. The Freep (Detroit newspaper) has two articles today that mention Infante playing more than Neifi from here on out. Seems Neifi took a grounder of his thumb in pregame drills yesterday and writers are speculating that it could let the non-wiley-veteran Infante back in the starting lineup.
  16. WOW, that was fast. Neifury is 5 for 29 so far in his tenure there and the Tigggers are 3-8 All five of his hits are singles, I believe. So his slugging is below .200. I follow the Tigers and I keep waiting for Leyland to wake up. The idea to get some defensive help for second with Polanco hurt was not all bad. But, to pick up Neifi's contract for next year was dumb. What's really, really bad though, is starting the guy and putting in the top of the lineup every other game. Omar Infante is a much better player. But, he had a crucial error that cost them a game about a dozen games back and it seems to be clouding management's judgement.
  17. Part of the reason behind that is the old Cubs' site was much better then the "mlb cookie cutter" sites that exist now. The old site had the cool replica of the Wrigley scoreboard and a link to audio (which is verbotten these days) of the games. Most importantly, they had a "press room" section to all of the articles about the Cubs in the THREE major papers, adding the Daily Herald to the Trib and Mariotti Rag. They may have had to leave some of those features behind because those other portals wanted people to come through their own site. I don't know. But, it seems they could make a better effort to stray from the template the MLB has, as you point out.
  18. I'm a glutton for punishment. You're a Cub fan, aren't you? Kinda comes with the territory. :D That site used to be my sole provider of Cub information. Much like the Tiger official site was my source. When the internet was first widely available I thought places like those were awesome, especially when I live so far from either one. But, now, sites like this one and access to local newspapers make the Cub official site far less appealing. They should try to remedy that by offering more than fluff, in my opinion.
  19. Sorry, let me amend this a bit... the choice is: Pie & Pagan + two additional first round picks + possibly $10M to spend elsewhere vs. Pierre You had me at hello.
  20. As the Tigers are about to find out. At least they'll bat him in the 8th slot and not the top of the order. I just have to bump this... Yeah, I saw that last night. Took me all of one game to blow that call! Leyland has had some crazy lineups this year (Vance Wilson 3rd, just so Pudge could pinch hit for him in that spot later in the game if needed, Pudge leading off against Boston, etc.). I still think by and large Neifi will bat toward the bottom of the lineup.
  21. That's the first thing I thought of. I guess he doesn't figure Verlander and Miner will read the Chicago papers and see how little he thinks of rookie pitchers.
  22. As the Tigers are about to find out. At least they'll bat him in the 8th slot and not the top of the order.
  23. I don't think it's a controversy yet, but I'm trying. :D But really, Jeter looked like he was getting ready to powerbomb A-Rod and neither made any effort to move toward a live ball rolling around the infield, then the highlight ended. Somebody told me they heard on the radio that Jeter says he thought the ball was caught and that's why he didn't go after it after the muff.
