  1. This sounds a lot better than what we've heard lately. Maybe they had to wait and make sure they missed out on the Japanese ace to know how much cash they wanted to offer?
  2. Prior showed a lot more than that in 2005, and had a better history than Miller currently does. So I'm not sure Miller is really less of a risk than Prior. Are you talking about this year or last year? Because I haven't heard anything about Prior. So Miller is more of a possibility to actually pitch and be effective next year than Prior. Until I start hearing about how Prior is doing, I will still feel this way. . The only thing I've seen about Prior was a blurb in a recent article saying the Cubs weren't counting on him for the rotation, but he is expected to be at spring training ready to pitch. I swear that's the best news I've heard about him in a while, which is sad. I expect information will pick up soon because he has an arbitration settlement coming up.
  3. He won't be 39 til Nov. 18, 2007. :party1:
  4. i don't think he's going to provide that big of a boost, personally. While that is a convinving argument, I look at the fact that he had a 906 OPS in April last year (before he got hurt), 891 OPS the year before, and 927 OPS the year before that. Yes but HGH-aided Bonds aside, players generally tend to decline after their early to mid-30's. I think it's possible Sheffield supplements, thus the non-decline so far in his 30's.
  5. tigers official site The site confirms the two year extension, though no money is mentioned. It also says Sanchez was shut down in the summer.
  6. Wow. A good move for Detroit, as Sheffield can play first if he's willing. Sanchez is a real good pitcher, but the Tigers have no shortage of young, talented arms. I thought the "top prospect" was gonna be Maybin.
  7. I would LOVE it if the Cubs signed Drew.
  8. It's too bad they are comming to the realization at such a late date and with a depleted talent pool. Imagine if Hendry would have had the epiphany when the Cubs had a lot of power. but we're kind of lucky that he also had this realization while the nl was very weak. now is the time to make a go for it. This is what I'm clinging to this off-season. The Cubs have a lot of problems to address, but the NL central sure looks winnable for the next couple of years with a decent team. Then, who knows, a team might get hot in the playoffs and win the world series in an upset.
  9. If they lose Aramis, the smart thing would be to blow up the team. That's not gonna happen though, and it could get real ugly if they have to fill another gigantic hole in the lineup.
  10. Are you the guy from the Geico commercials?
  11. I didn't see this elsewhere- espn.com I wonder what kind of shape he's in.
  12. I think Will Carroll suggested this as a good possibiltiy months ago. This is too bad.
  13. This is a great idea. Please make the most of the cash Mr. Hendry.
  14. Well, if they get Soriano and deal Burrell to the Cubs for not much talent, I'd be o.k. with that. It seems like under that scenario a team that would eat a lot of money could give up little in talent.
  15. I'm terrible at these proposals. That said, Derrek Lee for Bonderman and Granderson. The Tigers plug about the only hole they have, while creating need for either a homegrown centerfielder (Clevlin or Maybin- who is too young, but I'm spitballing here) or a short term free agent centerfielder to hold a spot for Maybin. The Cubs get a much needed starting pitcher and a good centerfielder, but now have another hole to fill at first. But, they have even more money to spend, so maybe they work out something at first via trade or free agency.

    QB Decision

I have Vick, too, as well as Grossman. I'm starting Vick to ride the hot hand, but I don't have a lot of faith. He is the most frustrating player I've had- he can flat out go off (in our league, q.b. rushing t.d.'s count double) or he can put up a goose egg. I'm barely keeping my head above water in my league, so I am gonna go with Vick and hope to get lucky and get back in the points race.
  17. Good analysis. I just wonder if last season's decline (yes, I'd take a "decline" that good myself) won't cause genuine concern amongst g.m.'s that it may get steeper next year, and that - combined with age and possible PED's may keep people from a guaranteed contract. I, like you, doubt it because he's not declined yet, but as a g.m. I could make the argument that it wasn't just about the record, that's for sure.
  18. Is this sort of what happened to Sammy, only on a smaller scale? I.E., they weren't trying to keep him from breaking a record, but not a whole lot of interest in spending a bunch of money on an older guy who possibly had benefited from chemical assistance? I realize Sammy had declined more steeply than Bonds, but I still think it's interesting.
  19. Points aren't accumulated by being "great". Receivers must score touchdowns. I know that Boldin is the better receiver, but there are factors more important than that to consider. How many drives are the Cardinals going to sustain without a running game? I think many of you may be a bit biased after watching the Bears-Cardinals game. That was the best game that Arizona played all season...by quite a margin. McNabb is going to throw more touchdown passes than Leinart from this point forward...that is a given. Will Brown outscore Boldin as he has thus far this season? I'm judging Boldin on his entire career. He has been dominant when healthy, and just set a record for being the fastest receiver to catch 300 passes. Brown is having a fantastic season, but his success has been over the past 7 games. Personally, I like to go with the proven guys. If you want to ride the hot hand, that's great, I just think you're giving up too much to get him- a great receiver and a sucky-but-starting running back for a hot receiver that could be great. It's a sideways move, in my opinion. And by "great", I'm talking fantasy football wise. He accumulates a lot of points in my league, but we factor in yardage as well.
  20. He's good, but he ain't that good. :P
  21. Boldin's one of the best receivers in the game, why trade him?
  22. That's why he wears sunglasses at night games.
  23. Baker and Beane, now that I'd pay to see. Holy cow. I was gonna post a joke that he would be the A's next manager! I, too, would love to see how that would shake out.
  24. They say the payroll's higher, maybe even one-fifteen- as a cub fan I'm excited, hopefully it will mean- That next year will be "the year"- no more suffering for die hards, the Cubs will win the Series- and we'll party like rock stars.
