  1. He's a tool.
  2. Sadly management doesn't, and it's articles like these that make me wish they would. It just seems like teams don't have to be as honed in other areas (defense, dodging injuries, etc.) if they have the ability to have lots of baserunners throughout the game to fall back on.
  3. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5173 May need subscription. Article basically says that a team like the Yankees, with all their pitching woes, injuries to big offensive starts, etc., can still have a very good record because they lead the world in OBP, which in turn helps them with runs scored.
  4. Why did they want the Knicks to have first pick? Is this a popular conspiracy?
  5. I will say this about the guy- if he plays high level college football this fall and doesn't get hurt, while the Cubs have other pitchers (you know who I'm talking about) that get hurt throwing a baseball, well, I'm gonna be flabbergasted.
  6. If it is one of the girls off of his myspace friends list, I may start trying to impersonate him just to hook up with them. EDIT: Here is his myspace for those who haven't seen it. Just for the record, "The Girl Next Door" is my personal favorite but " ♥ Dont hate me cause I got what you want! " is an extremely, extremely close 2nd. I clicked on that link and noticed that he's a member of a club called "The Cubs Smoke Pole, Literally". Is that a sign?
  7. Jeff Samardzija (possibly in the 5th) - That's twice I've seen his name linked to the Cubs.
  8. Miami all the way. Wade rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. That's what confused me. I thought he was saying if Furcal was on the team at shortstop he wouldn't have had a collision on the play. I completely forgot it was Furcal who ran into him.
  10. Furcal's the one who ran into Lee. Got it! Thanks.
  11. I really find it hard to blame the Cubs if that's true. Agreed. I'm glad that Hendry wanted to insert that clause, both because Furcal would be horribly overpaid, and since character is important. Perhaps Furcal would have agreed to it if they had offered him another two or three million a year. If the Cubs had Furcal today, Derek Lee wouldn't be missing two months of baseball, and Pie might be trolling center field already. Considering we gave up two major league pitchers for a guy with an OBP below .300, I'd say the extra two or three million a year would have been worth it to grab Furcal. I can't figure out this part of your quote. I'm on board with your disappointment over Pierre's play at leadoff, but can't figure out any ability to keep Lee from getting hurt.
  12. I'm just glad they traded one of the eleventy billion second basemen on the 25-man roster.
  13. The most common one I've read is that he drags his toes when he runs to first after a walk.
  14. Guys on the Ranger-Mariner broadcast say this is official- Hairston Jr. for Nevin.
  15. I just heard this reported as likely on the Ranger-Mariner radio broadcast. GM Daniels of Rangers would not comment, Nevin not in the dugout according to announcers.
  16. As far as the protest, I went today and saw about 5 guys ripping on the Tribune company at the gate facing the Cubby Bear. We came out of there and walked right past them. People kind of chuckled as they went by, but that's all. Guess I'm a scab.
  17. With the current Cubs run-support no Cub pitcher will win 15 games over a two year period, let alone the second half of a season.
  18. Will Carroll said this- "Mark Prior was also throwing a simulated game in Arizona, still searching for his lost velocity. Reports from observers say that once again, Prior threw well and without pain, but lacked the pop. This time, my observer had an idea why--“he’s throwing scared.” If the problem is mental rather than physical, then it can more easily be fixed." http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5120
  19. The owners of MLB's best record? Why, the Tigers, of course.
  20. Actually the correct answer under that scenario would be Never. Yes, fire him now. Do something.
  21. I don't usually agree with Mariotti's columns, but the last couple have been pretty spot-on, in my opinion. He'll still drop the weak little "Tribster" lines that annoy me since I don't so much see the Cubs' struggles as directly tied to payroll (it's pretty high), but I can get past those if he continues to echo my feelings that something needs to be done.
  22. I'll see you Saturday. I've got 6 tickets for the Cubs-Braves debacle. At least I get to watch Marshall and not Rusch.
  23. Isn't Maybin the stud first round pick from last year? Still a little raw, I think.
  24. What's an avatar?
  25. Don't act like I don't like the Cubs still. I love them. They just suck.
