  1. I was thinking Jed & Theo asked for two of the three (which is what I would ask for) but all three? Wow. I'd tell Theo to go pound sand too, but also can't blame him for trying. If they can't get a major haul for Garza, might as well just keep him, maybe even extend him. If nothing materializes now, which I doubt will happen, then waiting and trying again at the deadline should be the only option prior to an extension.
  2. So, the Natinals be looking pretty swank with this big chuck of man flesh gloving up first. If he signs there, I may be purchasing a spring training ticket and praying for a Stasburg start.
  3. Well, poop. I can sometimes be a touch optimistic when rising from a nap.
  4. Um...twitter seems to be, albeit small sample, smelling Toronto and Drabek involved. Hmm. Twitter, I know, I know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is about ready to go down.
  5. Ken Davidoff of Newsday reports that Prince Fielder wants to play for the Cubs, but they "appear committed to a full rebuild for 2012." Fielder is intrigued by the possibility of playing in Chicago, Davidoff says, because "they’re a reasonable distance from his Florida home and he has outstanding numbers at Wrigley Field." It doesn't appear that he'll land there, though, as the Cubs appear committed to rebuilding the farm system rather than spending on free agents. Davidoff also lists the Nationals and Blue Jays as potential landing spots for Prince but notes that the Nats "are a little gun-shy" after the Jayson Werth deal and the Jays are unwilling to go beyond five years for the first baseman. Related: Cubs, Blue Jays, N
  6. If they want Garza they are giving up Turner. Suck it and see Detroit.
  7. Failing to land the somewhat coveted Rizzo, do you think it is possible we swap Byrd with LaRoche? I am not saying I want this to happen, but it would clear the path for Bryce to start the season in the majors and Morse to move back to first.
  8. Scott Swaim @MLBInsideNews 58s Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Sources: #Yankees are OUT on Matt Garza. Seemingly down to #BlueJays and #Tigers Count me in as also being in the torn camp between Detroit and Toronto. I really want Turner, but I think the Blue Jays deliver the better package. AA has been awfully silent, and after missing out on Darvish I would think he will make a splash.
  9. Nobody is an ideal use of resources. False.
  10. Ryan Madson isn't an ideal use of resources for the Cubs. What an odd discussion.
  11. I say do it. I LOVE Cash, but there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding him right now. If we can get a pitcher heavy deal for Garza, then putting Rizzo at first would be a nice complimentary move.
  12. And then there is the baggage train to consider. Reed is the better option. I don't think it is any coincidence that not one team took a flyer on Lastings.
  13. The Marlins make sense.
  14. Pedro, to be kind, Sucked last year. The optimist in me says he'll be OK. There's just too much power there. As for position, even before he was drafted, people were saying he'd eventually be a 1B. He's a big guy who has a reputation of not being mobile. Let's see what happens this season. Many pirate fans have written him off already. Me? I think there's too much talent there. He's supposedly in great shape right now. Let's see what he does this year. Having said that, his output last year is why we got McGeehee (sp?) Yeah, he has the potential to be a stud. I know he came into camp overweight last season, but I saw him make some pretty nice plays at third. I just think it is a shame they are already moving him off of the hot corner. To date, Pedro Alvarez is the only prospect I have gone to a spring training game just to see play.
  15. This is actually a good assessment of the trade. But, some of the accolades of this trade written earlier (traderape !), well, that's what is hard to figure out. Jake, how do you feel about Pedro Alvarez? Why aren't they keeping him at third?
  16. Depressing? This is very far from depressing. This is a big bowl of hope juice. You want to know what depressing is? 2009-2011. That is depressing. It is time to move on, and it is happening. Enjoy the ride people.
  17. Is this Pujols/Prince debate going to run into next year? I just want to prepare myself.
  18. The prospects may make or break the trade from the Reds perspective. The Cubs already came out ahead. Definitely agree, and very nice to read on here after all the backlash.
  19. Oy Vey, I thought this would be done by the time I woke up. Bummer.
  20. Goodness, this is so awesome! Let the dice start rolling!!! I love love love everything about what we are going to see in the coming weeks!!
  21. Well heck, I guess Randy Wells has front line abilities as well.
  22. I find this kind of thinking insane. Expensive free agents are expensive because they are really good and help teams win games. As a big market team, the Cubs can afford them and should employ them. There is no reason for this rebuiliding to be some multi-year task where we are forced to live with the garbage that is currently on the roster just because some people get off on the supposed purity of building solely from within. Signing good expensive free agents does nothing to prevent you from building up a farm system. Throwing away seasons is inexcusable. Where did he mention throwing away seasons? Why are you so hell bent that management is throwing away 2012 because we haven't signed a big name?
