  1. I'm talking about how incredibly immature it is of you to threaten to bump this thread to try and humiliate people who have a different opinion of yours, and how incredibly hypocritical it is of you to react the way you did when somebody asked if you'd do the same if the opposite were to happen. I don't recall you taking this tone a few months ago. Consistency is essential in debate.
  2. If Anaheim doesn't get Manny, Giles is probably next on their list.
  3. Am not putting any credence into the 3 year claim by Rosenthal. He's a hack right? Jmo but someone will give Giles 4 years.
  4. Not a good idea to reward someone who saved 33 out of 35 w/ a setup role after you signed them as a closer. Interesting that the only time people seem to get upset about players getting a supposed raw deal is when it's Todd Walker or Nomar.
  5. He indeed has a plan. You (and most here) just don't like it. Pitching More Pitching Defense Lead-off Right Field For right or wrong, he has decided to model the club like the Astros and White Sox of 2005. Assuming the Howry signing is not fiction, I expect we'll see Hendry do the following in no special order: - sign or trade for another starting pitcher (I'll guess Paul Byrd or Esteban Loaiza) - sign either Rafael Furcal or Alex Gonzalez - trade Todd Walker for a prospect - package Jerome Williams along with a minor prospect for Juan Pierre - package Corey Patterson, Glendon Rusch and a pitching prospect for a mystery RF (the prospect is a nobody if Kevin Mench or Jay Gibbons is the target; the prospect is grade A if Bobby Abreu is the target) I think it's more a model of Anaheim, Houston and the White Sox. Since the Cubs and Anaheim spend comparable amounts, I think the plan's more like Anaheim's, as the Hendry wants to build a stronger offense than either Houston or the Sox, but have as strong as rotation and pen. Jmo but some people may get upset cause they want the team built like NY and Boston. Of course, NY has been owned by Anaheim of late, and Boston's only title came when they had Schilling and Pedro as their #1 and #2.
  6. Wow, that was a ridiculous thing to say. This has hardly been 18 pages of complaining. I've seen a lot of the space used for questions, clarifications and praise. But it's good to see the spirit police spring into action to try and haul in those evil people who have the audacity to question a move made by the impeccable Cubs management team. Spirit Police.. Hmmm I give that label a 3 out of 10. You can do better.
  7. Didn't need proof. As recently as two weeks ago, Eyre's agent said they had at least been casually contacted by every team in baseball. There is a premium for effective setup men nowadays, Hendry realizes this, took the bull by the horns, and made sure he got his men (if indeed Howry is signed). For once, I am impressed with Hendry's effort, even if some here are impatient for action at the field positions. Nice to outbid the Yankees for a change.
  8. Get over yourself and your armchair opinions.
  9. Does NY"s interest in Eyre prove that Hendry didnt' "bid against himself??"
  10. The Trib's all about maximizing profits and gotta pay for Nef, Rusch and Erye somehow. :o
  11. But thats why hed be perfect for the cubs...all he has to do is retain our pitching talent. Well, the rotation's not very deep anymore. I'm not counting on Kerry Wood for anything anymore. At least in baseball he wouldn't be restricted by a salary cap where all his dumb moves (Dampier, Bradley, Wahad, and letting Nash go for starters) keeps him from signing players.
  12. He'd spend a ton of money, but seems he has his hands in a lot of the Mavs deals. If people think Hendry throws around too much money on certain players, just wait for Cuban. Basically, he'd probably build an offensive juggernaut that usuall makes playoffs, but falls short due to lack of pitching. Kinda like his Mavs. :o
  13. i'll take 95 wins and a yearly playoff berth. the championship will take care of itself if you make it to the postseason consistently enough. a set of three short series is a crapshoot anyway. besides, the cubs aren't in 'fine tune to put the finishing touches on a world series team' mode right now anyway. they've spent giles money on three non-impact guys and haven't filled rf or ss yet. What available impact SS or RF have they missed out on so far? It's not even December yet. Patience grasshopper.
  14. I don't mind building like Anaheim and there's still money for Giles. The Cubs need insurance for a rotation that has trouble with durability and getting late into games. Pitching usually wins titles not juggernaut offenses. Also, why would B.J. Ryan come to Chicago when Dempster's already the closer? Seems Dempster would have gone elsewhere w/out being ensured of the closing role.
  15. There's a better chance of Giles being in Cub blue than Sheff. I doubt the organization wants any part of Sheffield. If the Yankees get Delgado & Giles, they still won't win the World Series w/ that thin rotation. George needs to go back to what won in the late 90's, pitching.
  16. Looks like LA is giving up on Choi. Being an old cubs fan, would you say that the trades for Lee & ARam are 2 of the top 10 in Cub history, if not top 5?? The Sandberg and Sosa trades are in the top 10 obviously.
  17. i remember alot of us (me, too) saying that last year. they managad just fine. The Cubs didn't have near their pitching or luck.
  18. Just a reminder of one of the best trades in Cubs history. Thank you Jim.
  19. I guess Jocketty just isn't "creative." Isn't saying he doesn't have money just an excuse?? Good luck getting production from Eckstein, LF, RF, and catcher, and having a healthy Grudz. The Cards hitting could fall off big time..
  20. NO hatred here. When I see a move I like I will give props to Hendry. Eyre isn't abad signing but he is also overpaid. I don't even have to bring up what I think about Rusch and Perez. If Hendry signs Furcal or he trades for an impact bat/pitcher I will give him the props he rightfully deserves. As it stands right now we are not a contending team. Obviously it's early but when it is all said and done if I feel Hendry has done enough I will be happy and commend him until then I will call it how I see it. It's not hatred at all. Ok. As for contenders now, it's too early. Several playoff teams have some major holes due to free agency or ingrate players. The Red Sox (Damon & Manny) and White Sox (Konerko) come to mind quickly. I'll wait until after the winter meetings before passing much judgement.
  21. The guy from BP thinks he signed for 2 and 11? No wonder such a ramble.
  22. When's Eric Patterson due up?? Is Cedeno really a long-term solution? I think I take Furcal considering the trade off's and that he's younger.
  23. I wouldn't call it a need. They needed to play Murton more often much more than they needed Lawton. Even an as expected Lawton doesn't get this team into the playoffs. They needed to replace Burnitz w/ Murton. Burnitz was like 0 for the summer or something close to that. :x
  24. If hindsight's 20/20 obviously the Cubs don't make the trade. The Cubs needed a guy like Lawton. Unfortunately, he choked. Don't let hatred get in the way of objectivity.
