  1. If you have a problem with it stop reading the posts then. It is blatantly obvious that Hendry indeed is a moron after he signs Neifi to a 2 year 5 mil contract. What do you want us to do hold hands and jump for joy? Always look the other way when a GM single-handely is imploding the organization? Maybe Hendry can read these posts and finally realize the idiotic moves he has been making. Why the heck would Jim Hendry spend any time on this board after all the incessant bashing??
  2. No, its not blatantly obvious that Hendry is a moron. No it is not a fact that Hendry is single-handedly imploding the organization. There is far more evidence to support that Hendry is not a moron and has improved this ball club than there is evidence to support the contrary. How soon you all forget. I'll let Bruce Miles take over now... How does a moron or a complete idiot or any of the other names he has been called do all of that in just a couple of years? Pull your heads out of your butts people and see both sides. Is he perfect? No. Is he a moron? No. Does he have differing views on baseball than some of us? Clearly. Does that mean that he is wrong and we are right? No. You are free to over-react and vent all you want on these pages. But it does get old. Especially when there is evidence presented to you that counters many of the over-reactions. That evidence often gets ignored and the bashing continues. There are more sides to be seen and understood than just your own. Good post. I guess Bruce Miles is a moron for suggesting that Hendry's competent?? Some people are forgetting how little Hendry inherited when he took over as GM. How many guys who started the the 2003 season do we want back now?? Choi? Grudz? AGonz? Lenny Harris? Alou? Patterson? Sosa? Miller?? It's ridiculous to expect Hendry to have 8 great replacements after 2 years. Lee, Walker, Nomar, ARam & Barrett's was a good start. They just need a little more restructing now.
  3. With the Trib, that should be the equivalent of you or I finding 86 cents in the couch cushion. The Trib puts up a top 5 payroll, they aren't to blame. Assuming that 40 mil is correct, that would put the payroll upwards of 110 million. What did they end up spending last year?? About $103-105 million?? With the way the Trib rakes in the money off the Cubs, $110 mil. is reasonable. Cub fans deserve it.
  4. Are we still talking about the Cubs? :) Hendry's just flying under the radar. ;) Seriously, you have to think some big move is coming w/ all the assets (Walker, Patterson, William, Hill for starters) stockpiled.
  5. Furcal, Giles and Washburn via FA CoCo & Abreu via trade book this
  6. I'll take a wild guess that the labels idiot, stupid and moron have been used over 100 times in the this thread. There's no decorum today. Hmmmm guess it's just your typical Neifi/Dusty thread. ;)
  7. I feel sorrier for us Cubs fans, who have to put up with a managment team that's apparently so abysmally stupid that it thinks Neifi Perez is more productive and valuable than Todd Walker. How do you draw that conclusion?? Neifi's just a much smarter businessman, who didn't leave millions on the table like Walker.
  8. Who cares. He should have thought about this a year ago. Walker's not the sharpest knife.
  9. Considering that Neifi got $1 million for 2005 and had a better season in 2005 than 2004, and that he can play 2b and SS quite well, his value was probably around $2 million. Heck his number's are just as good as Orlando Cabrera's. Hopefully Hendry has deals in place for Abreu & CoCo Crisp & is on the verge of signing Giles and Furcal. :o
  10. Boo hoo walker. It's his own fault he signed a bad contract. Maybe he'll go Terrell Owens. :)
  11. Looking @ it from an optimistic perspective, it gives the Cubs the ability to use Jerome Williams, Rich Hill & Cedeno in a trade or trades, which can net a starting pitcher or OF. Combined they'll likely make about 1/5th of what Rusch/Perez will. Overpaying and bidding against yourself doesn't excuse anything. You want to use Williams, Hill, and Cedeno for trade? Great but, that doesn't excuse kicking yourself in the groin in the process. Everyone focuses on which role they play under Baker, look at what they are making and what their past production merits. To me, they're both severely overpaid, regardless of roles. Where do you get "bidding against yourself???"
  12. Crawford will cost and arm and a leg. Tampa's nearly impossible to deal with.
  13. Looking @ it from an optimistic perspective, it gives the Cubs the ability to use Jerome Williams, Rich Hill & Cedeno in a trade or trades, which can net a starting pitcher or OF. We also could have kept Williams and Cedeno and used that money on free agents that could actually help this team. If you feel Cedeno should be the starter, then go out and pick up D'Angelo Jimenez for 750K and call it a day. It is absolutely pointless as UK stated, to spend a ridiculous amount of money on crap players. No matter how this ends up spinning out, at the end of this offseason, we will still be paying Neifi 2.5m for the next two years. Nothing that happens from this point forward will turn this into a "good" deal. Maybe this will become possible if the Trib sells the team. It appears they won't take chances on giving 35 year olds 3-4 year contracts for $10 mil per. *shrug*
  14. Looking @ it from an optimistic perspective, it gives the Cubs the ability to use Jerome Williams, Rich Hill & Cedeno in a trade or trades, which can net a starting pitcher or OF. Why? We have Rusch! \:D/ But seriously, if we're not going to actually play what our farm system produces (those that are ready for the bigs), then we might as well trade them away for players Dusty will actually let get off the pine and play. With a thin free agent market, the Cubs are going to have to deal off some players to fill needs. Neifi & Rusch don't have the trade value of the youngsters, especially when you're try to pick players off teams like Tampa and Cincy. If Williams & Hill help the Cubs land Abreu, I'm pretty dang happy that they brought Rusch back. EDIT: well actually they can't be dealt, but can provide similar production,.....

  16. Definitely some overaction. Maybe Cedeno's part of a package that gets the Cubs a OF or starting pitcher. It's still early...
  17. Could Cedeno be used as a trading chip?? How much value does he have??
  18. Yeah. I could just see some of the questions now: How the hell did you give Neifi a 2-year contract worth $5 mill dollars? ARe you on crack or something? I would just ask him to justify thinking that Brian Giles will be overpriced, when he's overpaid 2 players that are completely redundant by a factor of 5. Giles won't be signing a 2 yr. contract like Neifi and Rusch. This franchise is terrified of long contracts. Making decisions like that, though, is one of the reasons we never win. Quite true. Hopefully, this franchise will start making longer term investments. I had enough w/ the stop gaps.
  19. There's just no way it happens. I just cannot see it happening. I'll be real surprised if it happens. Just doesn't seem like a good match. Philly wants a 3b and the Cubs have no one besides ARam to offer. However, I think Abreu's more likely than Giles. Yeah but Hendry might not think ARam can catch the ball. Well he has a problem w/ fielding, but can't see a Abreu for ARam deal.

  22. Abreu makes more sense for Hendry/Baker and the Trib than Giles. Of course, they'll have to shell out players for Abreu. Abreu's 3 years younger. Abreu has more speed. Dusty loves speed. Abreu only has 2 years left on his contract. That's HUGE. The Trib likes short contracts and am sure they're a little concerned that Giles could break down in years 3 and 4 of his contract.
  23. Will Eric Patterson be ready by the time Neifi's contract is up??
