  1. Good assessment. So you think Walker will be dealt for a reliever?? I would not be surprised to see him traded to TX and the Cubs get Soriano, which would really hack some people off. Altogether, that team you posted can win a title.
  2. So your entire argument is that, because Hendry hasn't signed the premeire FA of each off-season the last few years, he has no plan whatsoever? That's an extremely narrow view. How many rings do Vlad and Tejada have? Or how about the best player in baseball, A-Rod, how many does he have? No, it is not my entire arguement. He does not go after the top tier free agents and leaves glaring holes at positions year in year out. What game plan has Hendry had? Sign or trade for a closer last year? Good thing Dempster worked out or else we might have been last in the division. What kind fo job did Hendry do to improve the OF after trading Sosa when other OF help was available? Our bench looked might good last year with Macias and his .160 avg in pinch hitting situations. Then again you probably though Hollandsworth was the answer in left. What kind of game plan has he had? So do you think Hendry should get major props for getting Dempster or is he another guy who fell in the Cubs lap just like Murton?
  3. Example of a glaring hole for years?? He filled 1b, 3b and catcher w/ long-term solutions. All 3 pickups were steals btw. 2b and SS were filled by spot-gaps, who are beloved by many on this board. LF looks to be filled by a great pickup. CF was set aside for Patterson. Can't blame Hendry. As for RF, Sammy's only been gone for a year.
  4. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/cubsfan_05/images.jpg Tell him I hate him. Why the hate?
  5. Hendry has a bias towards pitching. I think the signing of Maddux is evidence of this. The overall plan seems to be build a really strong pitching staff and get position players who will be around for a while (Lee, ARam, Barrett).. Furcal fits into this m.o., and I have a feeling he'll use Walker to get a long-term fit. Of course, they could always opt for Jeff Kent instead. As for pitchers, Burnett, Washburn, Lowe and Livan Hernandez may all be on their radar. Am pretty sure Hendry will get another solid starter.
  6. I still see Perez hitting #2 under too many scenerios. You're right about Dusty Proofing this team but what that means to me is trashing the whole organization player wise. Furcal is a must for SS, and either Pierre, Lofton, Crisp or Damon for CF. Forget Mike Cameron now. Am kinda leaning towards Crisp for CF. His .810 ops would rank him 5th amongst cf's for 2005. He has the speed and adequate obp for the 2 hole. I don't mind Neifi as a starter just as long as he's batting eighth. He has a great glove and some pop in his bat. Furcal & Neifi up the middle should make the pitching staff real happy at least.
  7. Ironic that Giles may be overpriced. Encouraging to hear they'd like Furcal and Pierre. Jmo but top of the order hitters are a must in SS and CF. Gotta Neifi/Dusty proof the lineup.
  8. Does the Chicago area have a nice looking news woman because I think it's in Lowe's contract that he gets one. Doubtful they're nearly as good looking as the LA one's, but Lowe survived playing in Boston.....
  9. I personally cannot deal with having Neifi as the starter. I dont care who we sign or trade for having Perez here and starting when last year we had options like Nomar, Walker, and Cedeno is a bad idea. When did Neifi ever start over Nomar and Walker? (Besides when they were injured) The man got 572 ABs what does that tell you? Cedeno was an afterthought. Baker made it clear that he would do everything in his power to get Neifi in the lineup. It tells me Nomar & Walker were hurt a lot. Let bring both back tho.
  10. Please trade for Jeff Kent and sign Furcal Hendry, and make Neifi a late inning defensive replacement & pinch hitter. Walker, Patterson & Williams for Kent & Lowe please. Just give up on Burnett already.
  11. No...he's saying Neifi > Walker since he is going to move Walker. Walker can help find a long-term solution for another position. Am guesing that Hendry views Cedeno as the long term solution for 2b. Walker has the worse agent in baseball.
  12. Am guessing that this means Hairston won't be back. Was hoping they'd opt for Hairston instead of Neifi. They overpaid by a million dollars. Not my money, so oh well. I'm sure we'll hear over and over and over and over how the Cubs overpaid though. I'm going to go ahead and pencil in Neifi as the starting 2b. Just hope he's batting 8th.
  13. Giles to the Mariners for 3 yrs. and 27 million?? riiiiiiiiiiiight
  14. Haven't heard this before?? Some like to portrary Murton as a mere throw-in. Don't want to make it appear as if Hendry's competent, ya know. No more kool-aid for you two. Murton was a last minute throw in, not the centerpiece. How can he be the "reason the cubs made that deal?" He wasn't targeted from day 1. He wasn't going to be an addition to the MLB team at the deadline. Nomar was the centerpiece for us. He never said Murton was the centerpiece. It appears his point was that the Cubs opted for Nomar instead of Cabrera when Murton was added. If true, then Murton was more than a mere throw in.
  15. The chances of Hendry getting Bradley are slim and none. Since their best prospect is a centerfielder, Bradley's basically a stop-gap. Hendry will opt for other alternatives instead of a hothead. EDIT: Also, if the Cubs deal w/ LA, I have a feeling that they'll try to get Kent and Lowe.

  17. get ready to defend yourself. Nah. I've seen a lot of posters make similar assessments of late.
  18. Since the Cubs farm system pretty much suks, they'll have a difficult time getting Abreu unless they're willing to give up Pie. Williams will probably have to go to Philly too. Can also see Philly insisting on a 3b, so perhaps Walker is dealt to another team and they send Philly a 3b. However, there may not be many bidders for Abreu. Can't see Philly dealing w/ NYM and the Yankees don't need a RF. Boston may make a nice offer though. Altogether, imo Philly will demand a huge price tag. Abreu >> Giles tho.
  19. For this guy...really? I don't see trading a decent 3-5 guy like Williams for a possible 4th OF guy. 4th OF? I think you're selling him short. His .797 ops from last year places him 12th amongst rf's in 2005. Yes, nothing great, but he's shown that he can go over .850 which would place him 6th in 2005. He'll only be 28, so he can improve. .. Not a bad gamble for Williams, who may end up in the pen anyway. Mench is far from option #1 tho. Isn't Texas a hitters park? Could that skew the numbers? Yeah, but Wrigley's a hitters park too. Looks like his numbers are alright on the road and he has played a large number of games in Anaheim, Oakland and Seattle, all pitchers parks.

  21. A .874 ops in 2004 caught my attention. Most likely the Cubs would have to give up either Williams or Hill. Not a bad option.
  22. Hard to argue with his choices. Although, I feel the Angels, Mets and Orioles could be in the running for some of these guys too, namely, Damon to the Angels, Ryan to the Mets and Burnett to the Orioles. Sounds like the Angels really want Manny, which may take them out of the running for most other free agents.
  23. There won't be much of a competition. It will be Neifi's to lose. He's an alright 8 hitter & a good fielder. Unfortunately, Baker will find a way to get him in the top of the order.
