  1. Expected post - My complaining was premature. If Boston had injuries to Manny & Ortiz, like the Cubs have had to Prior and Wood, they'd be in the same boat as the Cubs. Few teams can survive such injuries. It's just the way the ball bounces sometimes.
  2. Wrong! It's okay to call Moneyball stupid and it's okay to call Hendryball stupid. What is not okay is to insult the posters who praise Moneyball or Hendryball, etc.... It's really that simple. What's the definition of insult?
  3. Hendry won several titles in the 2000s? I take back my complaint, I was under the impression that the team Hendry put together actually came up well short. Cmon you're mischaracterizing what I wrote. The way Hendry wants to build this team has been ripped a many occasions.
  4. First, I'm glad you know that the only reason Walker is being shopped is becasue the Sox won with speed and defense, even though they really won with pitching. Second, there may be legitimate reasons for not liking the job Hendry has done. However, I get the feeling that the reason many on this board bash him regularly is because he may have a different approach to valuing players than do many here. In other words, there may be philospohical differences. And instead of calling it that and reasonably acknowledging that there's a chance Hendry might know what he's doing, some posters call him names. God knows none of the posters here who disagree with Hendry can be wrong in evaluating a player or mistaken in their approach. Finally, if Hendry refuses to see Walker's worth he's got a ton of company, ie all the other GMs who gave up on the guy. There's no chance none or all of those guys are right, is there? I guess not. That's why they are GMs and we are sitting around posting on a message baord playing at being a GM. It's alright to call HendryBall (Strong pitching, defense, , speed, and average offense) stupid. Although, it won a title several times in the 2000's. Just don't call hardcore Moneyball stupid. That's offensive.
  5. The franchise is jinxed. Watch St. Louis get Abreu for Marquis and prospects. Don't deal Prior or Z for Abreu.
  6. Very reasonable. The only player Hendry has really missed out on this offseason is Luis Castillo. Giles wasn't leaving SD. Burnett's signing for too much and so did Furcal. The Cubs have no need for Konerko, LoDuca or Delgado. Dempster, Eyre and Howry make about as much as BJ Ryan. Same goes for Wagner.
  7. Good post. People need patience. I bet the Cubs make a good pickup by the end of the week. I bet they make two or three. After all, the meetings just started yesterday. Maybe. If there's little to show after the meetings, then I'll get a little nervous..
  8. Good post. People need patience. I bet the Cubs make a good pickup by the end of the week.
  9. Looks like eggs have been placed in the baskets of Pierre, Wilkerson, Lugo and Gaithright. If these guys don't work out, there's always Lofton.
  10. Did Tejada get 6 & 72? That's better than 3 & 39. Factor in inflation and Tejada might get 6 & 80 this year.
  11. Hendry probably has multiple plans just like most GM's do. For leadoff, Furcal was obviously option 1. Am guessing Pierre is option 2. After that, Lofton's still left and probably a few other options via trade like Lugo. It's still to early to panic.
  12. Trade Pie, Murton & Williams. Time to be bold for a change. Get a 3-way deal w/ Oakland going and w/ Zito going to Philly.
  13. Making such a claim is just a way to get people riled up. Surely, Hendry has many lines in the water.
  14. No, but that may be your 1400th post needlessly bashing other posters while thinking that emoticon means something though. Not signing Furcal doesn't = stopgaps everywhere, that's a strawman argument itself for crying out loud. Trade for Bradley, get an Abreu, Wilkerson, Dunn, Gomes, etc., and maybe let Cedeno play SS. Where's the stopgap? Bashing?? Now that's a strawman. Nice disregard for your buddy's hyperbole. Consistent. I just now read the post you were referring too. But this crap is what I'm talking about. The point is made when you question whether "Hendry put all his eggs into Furcal's basket". It's a valid point, I don't have a strong opinion one way or another. But you continually try to act victimized like one side of the argument is always at fault for not being perfect, and it really needs to stop. Make the point you want to make, stop there, don't attack the poster. "Victimized" = strawman I said the argument was a strawman argument. How the f did I "attack" the poster?? Don't spin off your chair friend w/ such accusations. It's considered an attack because someone is obviously offended. A perfectly fine baseball discussion once again ruined with back and forth personal crap. I just warned you 3 days ago that this has got to stop! It will stop, one way or another! Interesting intrepretation once again. That's a pretty low bar to set.
  15. Don't the Cubs save quite a bit of money here?? This deal should please many.
  16. So 13 pages of mostly bad comedy. Will turn on 710 now.
  17. Didn't SD just get Cameron?? Can't see Loretta being a popular pick-up, as his ops was 100 points less than Walker's and he's 34.
  18. If you can upgrade RF over a potential Jacque Jones signing, then it might be worth it to slightly downgrade 2B. I still think Soriano is a strong possibility. Loretta is a guy I know the Cubs would have interest in, who seems to be available for relatively cheap. I'd do Walker for Cliff Floyd. Trade for Loretta or Soriano and go get Wilkerson or Bradley Why not just try to get Wilkerson AND Bradley, and forget about tading away Walker? Oh thats right we're the Cubs. (Note: I have never been this negative about the Cubs, but I'm afraid that Hendry has screwed himself over by throwing all his attention at Furcal. Now he could salvage the offseason and still come away with something pretty good, but will probably try without success to land Abreu, while missing out on guys lik Bradley and Wilkerson, therefor having to settle for Burnitz or something) Not saying he shouldn't be looking at Abreu or Dunn, but Don't let other options waste away while doing it. About the only player I can see Furcal costing the Cubs is Castillo, who has some health concerns.
  19. Unless the Cubs can find a way to work a 3-4 team deal where Zito goes to Philly, the deal's pretty unlikely. Few top line pitchers are available and it's highly doubtful that Wood will waive his NTC to go get booed by Philly fans. Gotta hope that the Mets get Manny, which makes Floyd expendable.
  20. Where does Hendry throw away all that money if he gets Wilkerson and Bradley? You know he has to spend it or people will riot. Give Walker $10 million. :o
  21. Did the Cubs offer a 5th year to Furcal?? If not, perhaps they need to take a different route for a change. The NY teams, LA and Anaheim do it.
  22. Pierre, Bradley & Soriano or Bradley, Wilkerson & Soriano. Good bye Felix Pie. If they can get Zito from Oakland and move Wood that would be great too.
  23. I'm sure you'd agree that it's a good thing he didn't match the Dodger offer, though. I am pretty bummed, but I am glad we're not shelling out 13 mil/yr for Rafael Furcal. It's not my money, so oh well. Everybody's overpaying nowadays. Wait around for Walker deals and we'll get no one. Calling $10M per year for Furcal a "Walker deal" is ridiculous. That's a serious offer -- and *way* more than Furcal is worth. It's a poor FA market, and consequently those FA's worth anything are getting deals that I wouldn't offer. Sorry, but I don't thinkFurcal isn't that much of an upgrade over Cedeno -- certainly not $9.7M worth. Edited for typo How did you comprehend that?? I didn't mean Furcal @ $10 mil. was a Walker deal. Walker's deal is well under what's he's worth. Few guy's screw themselves out of money like Walker.
