  1. My money's on Dontrelle Willis, Gabe White, Brad Lidge, and Boof Bonser. Yeah Lidge. Borowski too. Probably not David Wells.
  2. i'll bet there were many pitchers on roid. mark prior being one.
  3. Maybe Kerry needed 10 days off. :x Unbelievable how this team can't hit bad lefties. At least the Cards lost.
  4. mulder hasn't been extended by st. louis yet???? hendry should have got soriano when he was cheaper. highly dobutful hill & jwilliams is nearly enough for soriano now, even if he's a possible rental player. also, considering how well he's played in the NL, it's doubtful soriano rules out returning to the NL. the reason he most likely goes back to the AL is cause the money's there (Yankees, Boston & Anaheim).
  5. There's a Hill thread in the Minor Leagues forum about that... http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=32550 viewtopic.php?t=32550 :) i don't wander over there much. too depressing.
  6. Lee's return should provide a nice boost and help the Cubs play over .500 ball, but they need a lot of things to go right. Wood & Prior need to become Wood/Prior 03. The odds of that happening are pretty slim tho. :( Also, Pierre needs to get back to his career average, Jones has to stay around .900 ops and Ramirez needs to go on a month long 1.100 ops run...
  7. Good to see them playing better ball cause I hate seeing them lose. Kinda ruins the summer. They need something like a 9 out of 10 run and a long losing streak by St. Louis.
  8. Lots of crow being thrown around today. :) I was just going to comment on hill's impressive AAA numbers & the post was locked, so I'll take it here... Good to see Hill bouncing back. This should help his trade value. Pacific Coast League Rich Hill, Iowa 1-0, 1.29 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 14.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 21 SO Hill received a demotion to Iowa after going 0-4 with a hideous 9.31 ERA over four starts for the Chicago Cubs. Now, he's bidding to once again make it to the Major Leagues. On Tuesday, the 26-year-old left-hander allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings as Iowa edged Nashville, 2-1. Even more impressively, he struck out 14 batters without issuing a walk. Hill has logged 44 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level and has struck out 61 batters while walking just nine in that span. Is a return trip to Chicago in his future?
  9. Jock's signing is looking pretty good right now just like the Pierre's trade looks pretty bad right now.
  10. what's wrong w/ jacque jones?
  11. the cubs need a 5 hitter who's a big time slugger. murton isn't the answer & jones & barrett are better suited in the 6 & 7 spot. if the cubs are keeping murton in LF, then soriano makes a lot of sense @ 2b. Bat murton 2nd. Not sure who leads off tho.
  12. maddux :x murton has struggled versus righties all year. good to see the cubs will miss petite & oswalt in houston. a sweep would be sweet.
  13. He's in his contract year. What raises his value more? Pitching in a pennant race or pitching in a bunch of meaningless games? Money talks....
  14. St. Louis will find a way to win over 90. Cincy's going to cool off. Can't see them winning more than 85. Who knows about Houston. St. Louis is the team to beat. Just too much pitching and luck.
  15. carpenter isn't going to be out so............ yeah. wasn't carpenter placed on the 15 day dl w/ a back injury?
  16. Might as well give him a few extra days of rest, and hope he's going strong by July. If the Cubs stay around 10 under .500, try to trade Kerry for something. I was listening to Angels' pregame talk today and they said the Angels are looking to make a significant move. Ervan Santana and some of their minor league studs could be available. I wouldn't mind the Cubs packaging Wood w/ Ramirez and loading up on young players.
  17. Can't imagine the Cards running away w/ it w/ Carpenter and Pujols out, but they'll have some guys who are bums elsewhere make up for the loss. I bet they play .500 ball...
  18. ah. this is why that tool won American Idol? I had chalked it up to the further decline of american culture.
  19. Considering all the money they waste on starting pitching, yes they need to spend more. Wood - $12 million. Maybe he'll earn half that. Maddux - $9 million. Probably not a good move in retrospect. Hey he's great for marketing tho. Prior $3.65. Has earned $0. Rusch - $2.75 million. $0 earned. Nice durability Prior. Wade Miller - $1 million. $0 earned. Jerome Williams - $500k, if not more, right? $0 earned They're getting very little out of $29 million.
  20. for sure. Kyle is god awful as a setup or closer. He just will never be able to handle the pressure. 23 career blown saves and 21 total saves, with 99 holds. Take out the Leo Mazzone year and it gets even worse. The Boss blew one big time when he paid that joker 17m for 3 years. But he would make one hell of a linebacker. howry for 3 & 12 looks like a bargain.
  21. Or maybe he just needed to be coached by people who know what the hell they're doing at least every once in a while. Corey himself said he thought he should be batting lower in the lineup, specifically as a #6 hitter. Well, the Orioles are doing just that, and letting him work there. And look at the results. Wow, what a radical approach...nobody could have EVER thought of that! Corey definitely had some ego "issues," but if what he's doing now with the O's continues, it should prove he was VERY far from being uncoachable, or terrible or a headcase, or whatever other excuses want to be made. His success should be one of the most scathing indictments of how bad the Cubs' management and coaching staffs are right now. corey had plenty of ab's in the 7/8 hole last year. sure some blame should be placed on the cubs coaching, but most the blame falls on corey. He was yanked around the lineup and expected to change his role on a near weekly basis. The Cubs' plans for him seemed to change with the winds. That kind of inconsistency and blatant misunderstanding of your own farm pick is murder on the game of a younger playing still trying to find his role and skills. It's obvious even the Cubs realized that. Look how much playing time Murton and Cedeno have gotten towards the bottom of the lineup. Most of their switches have been to the two spot. Consistency. Corey was seemingly expected to be everything except the three and four hitters. And I'm not saying he may have not been a difficult player to coach. But those players are going to come around enough that having coaches that can't deal with those situations are a real problem. Look at what it means we might miss out on. I didn't like them jerking Corey all over the lineup either, but he had been up since 2001. He wasn't some newcomer like murton or cedeno. I wanted him back up asap after he was sent to iowa last year. however, he choked big time. He has to take most the responsibility for his abysmal .602 ops. Perhaps it's a lot better for Corey that he's out of the Cub spotlight. Baltimore doesn't have near the expectations.
  22. Can't agree. I have no problem w/ Corey, Dontrelle Willis and Nomar being brought up over and over. Nothing wrong w/ discussing moves the Cubs have made the past few years.

  24. how does ponson have a 2.92 era? seeing that stat nearly ruined my night. however, the thought of nevin @ 1b, walker @ 2b and neifi on the pine made me smile. :D
