    it seems reasonable to me. iowa was essentially out of it, if they were close pie would probably play through his sore quad, but the manager decided to give it a rest. and the other guy got hurt while swinging. everyone go to bed now.

    for what it's worth, ty has a career .278/.350/.488 line against lefties

    I don't see this as a good thing. How many of these utility types do we need on the roster? He's arby-eligible after this season, meaning he'll probably be looking at a raise into the $5M range. If we're collecting Ty Wigginton for the future then we might as well just give away Eric Patterson, since he'll have no shot at making the roster. And then you have a moderately-expensive player putting up numbers similar to a guy who could do it for less than 10% of the price. Unless you're the Yankees, bad idea. we could always trade him when we're done with him this season, assuming hendry/lou wants him as a righty bench option for the stretch run. if the price is right, i'm in favor of getting ty.

    Assuming Conine isn't signed through next year, this would be a solid way to get rid of the committment to Jones in 2008 and fill the RH bench need. I don't think this would be viewed as a way to solve RF. Assuming Baltimore is happy with a marginal Cubs prospect, I could see the value in such a deal. conine's a red.

    There's also a bunch of hoopla today about the nats wanting dunn and their main selling point is that he can play with his best pal austin. But I don't really know how much validity is in any of that. If he were really cheap and the cubs couldn't acquire dunn or griffey I guess he'd be OK. i wonder if krivsky is willing to deal with bowden though. he wasn't happy with him last time, since he thought bowden was hiding majewski's injury.

    if we're thinking like hendry, maybe he wants to make a stab at one of his favorite targets from the past, austin kearns? i don't know how willing the nats are to part with kearns, but he has a reputation for good defense, and against lefties this year he's .260/.374/.438, and in his career .284/.406/.457. i can't see the nats being that committed to kearns, maybe he could be had cheaply and hendry will have his righty (potential) power bat he desires.

    That sucks. I hate to sound morbid, but it's probably only a matter of time until a pitcher is struck in the head from a line drive and ends up passing away. I wonder if eventually pitchers will be required to wear an Olerud-esque hat while pitching.
