  1. well, it's not that deceiving. howry's control hasn't been the problem.
  2. you don't see howry give up many hard hit balls.
  3. it's not so bad, this arizona series. if i told you before the season that we'd take 2/3 against the d-backs in wrigley, and 2/3 against the d-backs in arizona, you'd all gladly take that result. well, sweeping the d-backs and taking 1/3 in arizona is the same thing, so let's all be happy we won the series 4-2. and i apologize if the d-backs come back and win the cubs leading 10-3 late.
  4. let's keep our run differential ridiculous and hit a grand slam
  5. how about the fact that he's tied for first in era+...ALL TIME?
  6. welcome back soriano. please never leave again.
  7. all mariano rivera throws is cutters; i wonder if the yankees trust him. and look what the diamondbacks did to mo in the 2001 world series. maybe the diamondbacks are just awesome.
  8. it's ok. we're avoiding webb and haren this series so the cubs will at least take 2 out of 3, and probably sweep.
  9. discounting howry's bad performance because the cubs couldn't score a run yesterday seems incredibly foolish. sure, he wasn't to blame for the loss. but that didn't make his relief appearance unimportant.
  10. howry was god-awful in april. he was excellent in may. he sucked in june, and he sucks this month. using my nerd calculations, that puts howry at less than okay. he hasn't been good.
  11. i'm gonna join a cardinals forum and start a ryan ludwick i told you so thread.
  12. howry throws another turd today. i tend to die a little inside whenever he takes the mound.
  13. welcome to the cubs rich harden. the best 0-1 pitcher in baseball history.
  14. so you met him and then followed him into the restroom? creepy.
  15. how far back can they make it retroactive? he hasn't pitched since july 11th.
  16. because clemens was more valuable, but welsh was better. duh.
  17. no, not really. yeah, in the beginning of the season, people wanted to see cedeno get the majority of the playing time. is anyone still beating that drum though? i think everyone here wants theriot to have the majority of the playing time. i think some of you just make things up.
  18. But what does "his numbers will even out" mean? Here's what bothers me - in 2007 Chicago Cub right fielders hit for a total .795 OPS. Let's say Fukudome finishes the season with a .780 OPS. People will regard that as an "upgrade" because they spin what Fukudome does in whatever positive light they can. I don't even think he's going to finish with a .780 OPS at this point. But it will turn out the Cubs spent $12 million a year to downgrade their offense in right field. Jeromy Burnitz put up a .757 OPS for the Cubs in 2005 for $6 million, 3 years later you could see Fukudome finishing with a .770 OPS (a downgrade from 2007's .795 OPS) and people spinning it as some kind of victory. i'm ok with fukudome finishing with a slightly lower ops if he has a significantly better obp than burnitz/jones and co. by evening out, i mean that his final stats at the end of the year should be similar to where his stats are right now. if he finishes the year with a .380+ OBP, then i think he's been worthwhile. i sure as hell wish he'd hit for power though. but he might need a whole year of mlb pitching to regain his power.
  19. Then we're not reading the same topics. Look at the topic "So they've figured out Kosuke" where everyone says "He'll be fine, he'll make the adjustments." In this topic, the two previous posts before mine just now, the first one said worrying about Fukudome was an overreaction, and the one after that (the one that mentioned Alexi Ramirez) said yeah, it's okay, he'll adjust. Seriously. Go read the topic on page 2 about "They've finally figured out Kosuke" and tell me there isn't some bizarre cabal on this board dedicated to maintaining this guy's illusion. Because if that's not the case I'm not sure why people are so content to pretend on this. i read it. and i saw people expressing concern over his slump. but just because people aren't writing him off as a mediocre japanese player like johjima, kaz, et. all doesn't mean this board has some pro-fukudome bias or is delusional or anything like that. fukudome looks horrible right now, and it is a bit worrisome. but i'm also confident that he also has another hot streak or 2 in him this season, and his numbers will even out.
  20. i don't really see where people are shrugging off fukudome's struggles or pretending that he isn't struggling. i thought the consensus of the board was that he's looked horrible the last couple months, and it's something to be worried about.
  21. good night well i look stupid. and cro magnon is correct. that really is one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen. there's just so much going on that make it special.
  22. i'm gonna be able to sleep until i see this play.
