  1. Bob's a dick. He's all about that old school nonsense. yes nonsense like actually running when you hit the ball. It's a double header and he's getting a double or a HR. Big friggen deal. You really think what Soriano did is okay? No, it's not ok. But context is everything. Bob loves to make a point on the hustle stuff. i don't even think it was a hustle thing. soriano could have easily half-assed his way to second by jogging. hell, aramis does it all the time. but flat out walking and admiring the ball you just hit isn't the same as jogging to second on an easy double.
  2. i think you're overthinking it. soriano did something stupid, brenly and len talked about it for about 1 minute, and now no one will remember it tomorrow. if he'd done that in a close game, then probably something would be made of it.
  3. Bob's a dick. He's all about that old school nonsense. i don't think he was out of line. bob admitted it didn't matter today. but if something could easily be a double when it's a single, i don't think it's out of line to call him out on it. soriano did something stupid. i still love the guy, but come on, that's an easy double.
  4. i think z's offensive numbers make up the slight difference in the pitching numbers.
  5. he hit the longest single in the history of baseball because he admired his swing
  6. 1. zambrano 2. dempster 3. soriano 4. ramirez 5. edmonds honorable mention to theriot, who's been excellent, fontenot who's been the best bench player in the league, soto who's provided excellent defense and good pop which was sorely lacking last year, and basically every other cub except for ward and bob howry.
  7. Is the franchise player thing on ESPN supposed to be the 3 best ever from a certain team, or the 3 most identifiable players from a certain team? If it's identifiable players, I don't see how Sammy can't be #1 or #2 in that list.
  8. may arizona appreciate you more than the folks in cincinnati, dunn.
  9. they'd do it to get out of randy winn's contract for next year. it's not about acquiring anything good, it's about shedding payroll. anyways, if i'm the cubs i'd just dfa ward and call up hoffpauir. that solves our problem.
  10. Rose is more famous for not being in the Hall than he would be if he were in it. I kind of hope now he gets in just so he'll go away.
  11. f hacking mass. my team would be awesome if giles and edmonds sucked.
  12. despite him being awesome this year. he's still almost 40, injury prone, has had declining numbers up until he put on cubbie blue, and is losing it defensively. tell jim thanks a lot and that he's welcome to sing the 7th inning stretch whenever he wants, but to find employment elsewhere.
  13. i'd thank jim very much for his contributions, request he wear a cubs hat to his hall of fame ceremony, and let felix pie actually have a shot at the job next year. he's been beyond amazing for the cubs this year. that doesn't change the fact that he's still pushing 40, injury prone, and has had declining numbers up until his cubs stint.
  14. Those are actually before today too. If you include today: .284/.384/.621/1.005, 41 HR, 112 RBI EVEN BETTER.
  15. jim's numbers as a cub extrapolated to 500 at bats: .279/.381/.588 36 home runs 109 RBI
  16. god i'd pay money to be in a room full of cardinals fans who were watching jimmy get a curtain call at wrigley field. http://assets.espn.go.com/media/apphoto/fa0ff0d2-e183-4025-a8bd-8cf92bc29d37.jpg SUCK IT CARDINALS
  17. In other b-r fun, check out the leaders all time in K/9 ratio. There's a hell of a lot of just ok pitchers on that list. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/SOp9_career.shtml arthur rhodes #8? matt clement #32? ted lilly #34! just goes to show how the high strikeout pitcher is still a relatively new phenomenon.
  18. at his current home run rate stretched out to 600 ABs, he'd be at 45 home runs.
  19. When he's hot, he's the most fun Cub to watch. .297/.344/.583. Hopefully that inevitable cold streak comes soon so he can be super hot during the playoffs.
  20. the cubs need to pitch rich harden for 1 out here to get him a win to "catch up" to what his win total should be.
  21. maybe after today lou will stop pitching howry in close and late situations. lol yeah right
  22. why don't pitchers like bob howry get blisters that never heal?
