  1. i doubt lou will let his pitch count get that high.
  2. with his injury history? no way. he's still under control for next year. then we'll see.
  3. i get the same feeling watching harden pitch like i did when prior was pitching in '03. just a master at work. he's amazing.
  4. fontenot and harden are going to be money today. everyone else will suck. cubs win 1-0.
  5. win it for the fractured skull kid, cubs.
  6. about half the stuff you run into in dayton is named after the wright bros.
  7. Off topic to the subject at hand, but the Wright brothers first took flight at Kill Devil Hills, NC. Not sure why Dayton, OH keeps trying to steal our thunder... :-k congrats north carolina for being windier than dayton. that's all north carolina provided. all the hard work was done in dayton. So it is true that they are bitter in OH. Sorry, in NC we got wind, water, hills, mountains, beach, plains, valleys, etc. You see we have whatever it is that you're looking for. I just think it's funny that OH tries to take credit for the first flight, that's all. Our soil, our credit. Carry on. haha, i don't really care. around here they say the people in north carolina are the bitter ones. i'm still a chicagoan at heart.

  9. why would you say that? it's not like dunn is getting hurt by playing his home games at the GABP, and most of his home runs go like 450 feet, which is a home run unless they've reopened the polo grounds. I don't understand your logic. Yes, his bombs go 450, so that would be a homer anywhere. It's the warning track shots that become homers that increase his numbers. 80 was hyperbole, I'd bet, but his numbers would improve there. Warning track shots in GABP are homers in YS, as the fence is 11 feet closer and 3 feet shorter there. RC power alley is also much shorter. Dunn would be a 50+ HR hitter there. dunn doesn't really hit warning track shots. he either smashes the hell out of the ball or walks/strikes out.
  10. and randy johnson would get 30 wins if he had that yankees lineup for him while on the mound.
  11. howry nearly has a .900 ops against. that's just horrible.
  12. in case anyone cares, this is basically THE talk in dayton. this is the most exciting thing to happen to this town since the wright brothers were tinkering around in the local bike shop.
  13. perhaps cubbette was right all along.
  14. Can't say Daytonians are the wisest bunch. Castillo just threw a 95 mph baseball point blank at someone and you cuss and flick him off as he walks 5 feet away with a baseball bat in his hand? luckily one of his fellow chiefs sneakily grabbed the bat from his hand from behind. i'd hate to think what might happen if he kept the bat in his hands.
  15. Fan cam footage of the brawl: NSFW due to language. Gotta love the meathead Dayton fans!
  16. Yup, real clever and mature of you. Very mature of me for stating facts? Are you arguing that his tenure was a success with the Cubs? What metric are you basing this on? Perhaps based on the fact that the Cubs made the postseason twice during his tenure, which is equal to the number of times they made the postseason in over 50 years before then? I'm not saying his tenure was a complete success; there were good moments and bad moments. But to call him a complete failure is way off base. it also was a lot easier to make the playoffs during his tenure than it was the previous 50 seasons.
  17. walt jocketty happened to be in attendance.
  18. Even if he were, there's no reason he shouldn't be kicked off the team for that. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Who in their right mind would throw a baseball at someone from 5 feet away? I'm actually glad it hit a fan because that means more will be done to him. Just completely insane. Assult with a deadly weapon might be an option. He better hope the fan is ok. The fan is expected to be ok.
  19. christ, the 1 time i don't go to a dragons game when the chiefs are in town.
  20. is it all legal to give toronto any prospect they want plus an under-the-table check for 1 billion dollars for roy halladay? if we got halladay, it just wouldn't be fair.
  21. mike & mike were talking about it this morning. they said that when brett got his bat back, he actually used it for a couple games. but then gaylord perry (i think) told brett that he should sell that bat before he breaks it and it loses all value. so brett ended up selling the bat to a fan for $25k. then a few days later, brett felt bad that he charged the fan that much for a bat, so he gave him back the $25k and donated the bat to the hall of fame.
  22. sammy's june '98 barely comes in the top 5 of most productive months sammy's had, believe it or not. sammy's july 2000 was statistically better than june '98, where he put up a 1.175 ops. may 2002 sammy put up a 1.202 ops. in august 2002 he put up a 1.202 ops again.
  23. his ops was 1.173 in june '98. while very good, it's not really close to being the best of all time. consider sammy's august 2001, where his ops was 1.405 with a .936 slg. june '98 wasn't sammy's best month, even though it gets all the publicity.
