  1. Once again, show me ANY team that has won the WS that wasn't talented. This is just a ridiculous stance to take. "Oh, Brenly had a good team, so that's why he won". The point is that this Cubs team apparently isn't all that talented, so what would hiring Bob Brenly do? Brenly proved he could win with the best 1-2 punch in starting rotation history coupled with a good offense. His managerial style didn't win anything, the talent did. So what good is firing Lou and hiring Bob going to do? Having Bob tell the Cubs to move runners over and hit more sac bunts won't make the 2009 Cubs any better.
  2. How many runs would the D-Backs have scored without a roided (allegedly) up Luis Gonzalez? I'd say the Diamondbacks being 4th in the league in home runs, 4th in slugging, 4th in OBP, and 3rd in walks is the reason they had a good offense, more than getting the runner over and sac bunting.
  3. Because in Basball, you fail far more then you succeed. If you at least have productive outs, where you are hitting the ball to the right side to move the runner to third with a man on second and no outs, you're chances of scoring have increased by giving an out for a base. All the next guy has to do is out the ball in play, rather to HAVE TO get a hit to score that run. The Cubs have been so bad in this area and it's costs them a lot of wins because of the inibility to play fundamental baseball. Brenly is all about fundamental baseball, which, IMO, translates to winning baseball. Having good players translates to winning baseball. Brenly had a pretty good offensive roster anchored by one of the best 1-2 starting pitchers in baseball history. Dusty Baker could have lead that team to the championship. No way Baker could have. Sure he could have. If his bullpen hadn't blown a 5 run lead late in game 6 of the 2002 World Series, he would have rode the best recent offensive player to a championship. He'd have no problems riding Schilling and Johnson at their best to a championship.
  4. I really don't get Fukudome. It's not that pitchers have figured him out, otherwise he'd have struggled starting the season. He looked really dominant at the plate in april: he mashed pretty much every pitch in the strike zone. Now, it's back to the fukucopter. I'd really like to know how the hell that sudden drop-off happened. I don't get it either. The cliche response would be to say that pitchers are adjusting to him, and he's not adjusting back. But I mean, how accurate is that? It's not like pitchers and hitters don't make adjustments in Japan. I don't get it, I really don't. But I'm not sure if I want to understand anymore, I find myself caring less and less each time he corkscrews himself into the dirt. Is he that much better defensively than Fuld or Freel? Defensive stats are debatable as far as their accuracy goes, but I'd still have to check I guess. Fuld, I have no idea. But Freel's never looked good in center whenever I saw him play in Cincy.

  6. As much as it sucks, Fukudome is a better hitter and fielder than Freel and Fuld. We're stuck with him.
  7. I don't want Brenly managing for the same reason I don't want Ryno managing. I like both of these guys and I don't want a reason to hate them. Because I can guess what they're managing philosophies are and it will just make me end up hating them.
  8. Changing the offensive philosophy doesn't matter when your offense sucks.
  9. Hinske also plays 3rd, so he's probably there when ARod needs a day off
  10. well that sounds a lot better than i originally thought the situation was.
  11. 7 HR and 22 RBI in 131 at bats is crappy? Its not spectacular but it's better than most other Cubs. you're going by home runs and rbi? he had like a .750 OPS when i posted that. so yeah, for a corner outfielder/1b, that's crappy for a pinch hitter that's pretty damn good.
  12. Not terrible, no. But not good. Gave up two homers in a pitcher's park (what it that, 13 now this year?) and walked, what, four guys? He's clearly not even close to the pitcher he was last year. Fortunately, Lilly has been great this year otherwise who knows how far back the Cubs would be right now. i think comerica park is a lot more hitter friendly now than it used to be.
  13. that ball was murdered. [expletive] comerica
  14. Damn, thats like us losing Aramis, Soriano, Lee, Harden, Dempster, and Marmol all at once, and of course, its all just in time to face the Cardinals. hoffpauir for wright?
  15. i've been a yankees and montreal canadiens fan since i was born in the early 1900's. i win
  16. sosa was doing all he can to help the cubs win more games. good for him.
  17. what other sports figures have you run into at restaurants?
  18. 382nd place, I'm not doing very well. somehow livan hernandez is having a good season, it's killing my team.
  19. dew can have my spot.
  20. you'll certainly show us! '04 sammy sosa was the best right fielder we've had from 2004 to now. and that was when we all hated him.
  21. i'm glad the blackhawks lost in the playoffs.
  22. penn station
