  1. wut? what he's saying is that sosa wasn't a great hitter as a cub, despite his .284 batting average and .569 slugging percentage as a cub.
  2. so if he's performing great and is cheap, why would the nationals give him to us for our crap?

  4. Now that one just makes him look like a nice, loyal friend helping his buddy out. just like he was helping out his friend hitler blow up the hindenburg, right?

  8. Thanks SweetPete, those are all good selections but I'm suprised B.W. wasn't added to the squad...although I don't know what his stats were in the first half of '71. .296/.376/.507 17 HR 56 RBI
  9. Maybe because Duke last pitched on the 10th, so he'd definitely be available to pitch Tuesday? Hell, I have no idea.
  10. And I'll only agree to a trade to the Cubs. :) i heard from a source in toronto that halladay was singing "go cubs go" in a bar with his buddies. a trade appears imminent.
  11. soriano had 2 above average years for him the past 2 seasons though. that doesn't make sense.
  12. This is the single dumbest thing i've read on here & i've read a lot of dumb things here including those that think he should lead off because he "hits leadoff home runs". How often does he do that? Three times a year? If so, is that like drawing the golden ticket or something when you are up 1-0 three times/year? how often does he miss fly balls? how often does it cause the cubs to lose? soriano's power wins more games than his bad defense loses.
  13. i'm certainly no expert, but i get the "has a lot of raw tools but is easily exposed by major league pitching" vibe from him.
  14. if you don't count soriano's lead off homeruns because they don't help the team win in your eyes, then you shouldn't count dropped flyballs against him when the cubs are already losing by 4 runs.
  15. He kind of sucks anyways.
  16. well it's pretty obvious pujols will be taking harden deep at least once.
  17. He's upset that he's not playing. Why does that make him a drama queen?
  18. In 2011 we have $96 million committed and in 2012 we have $54 million committed. Assuming payroll doesn't plummet between now and then we will have in the area of $40-$80 million to spend in those two seasons as of right now - minus, of course, arbitration guys. I see no reason why we can't be a contender those two years. 2010 will be a tough salary year, but after that we'll have some flexibility again. By 2012, here's the ages of your key players: Soto 29 Lee 36 Soriano 36 Fukudome 35 Ramirez 34 Lilly 36 Dempster 35 Zambrano 31 I'd be surprised if more than about 2 of those guys are still above-average players at that point. Even $80 million won't go very far if they have that many needs. That's not to say they can't remain contenders. But they will need to make very few mistakes and have a lot of things go right between now and then. Without looking it up, I don't think Lee, Fukudome, Lilly, or Dempster will be under contract in 2012 with the Cubs
  19. when i was a kid i used to tell everyone that shawon was a better ss than ozzie smith. to me he was the best ss in the game. what an idiot.
  20. good thing i saw it first
  21. get on aim and ask him
  22. Yeah, sit on him judge! Keep that sub .300 OBP at the leadoff spot where it belongs! I never said I wanted Soriano leading off. All I said is that a lead off home run is a good thing.
  23. because drawing a leadoff walk, stealing 2nd, moving to 3rd on the groundout to 2nd, and scoring on a sac fly is how baseball is supposed to be played, dammit. get the whole team involved! screw soriano scoring a run without wasting 2 outs, he's only thinking of himself
  24. 5-9-07 Soriano hits a lead off home run, Cubs win 1-0 against the Pirates. 6-23-07 Soriano hits lead off home run, Cubs win 2-1 against the White Sox. 9-19-07 Soriano hits lead off home run, Cubs win 3-2 against the Reds. So you might say that without Soriano and his lead off home runs in 2007, the Cubs might not have made the playoffs. The Cubs are 15-7 when Soriano hits a lead off home run. That translates to 110 wins over the course of a season. I'm not smart enough to come up with a correct formula on how many wins his lead off home runs contribute to, but when he hits them, it certainly doesn't affect the Cubs' chance of winning.
