  1. I am not a Hendry fan but all of these stupid remarks about signing Lyle Overbay type players to 3 year deals are getting old, the longer term deals or free agent deals Hendry has made that have ended up bad are for players the majority of people on this board wanted Hendry to target. Bradley, Fukudome, extending Zambrano are all moves that many posters and fans were happy about at the time. Give it a rest. Has he made stupid moves, yes, has he given large contracts that were way over market value? Yes but those were players who were considered star players at the time. He actually did not have a horrible offseason as a GM last year, has made some decent personel moves of late, and overall has a pretty damn good trade history for the Cubs, he is not in my top 10 choices of GM but give him some credit.
  2. I think the Cubs are smart for staying away from a 6-yr contracl at roughly 22mil per year. Regardless of if they can afford it or not. The pitching staff is solid now there are some good looking pitchers 1-2 years away. 1 year deal on that list of pitchers is not a terrible idea, especially if it frees up Wells or Gorz in a trade that makes the team better long term.
  3. According to mlbtraderumors.com the marlins are evaluating interest in Uggla. Would something like the below offer get it done? DeWitt One of carpenter, jjax Wellington Castillo Low A ball prospect Be worth it? Then Hendry can grab a 1 year stop gap at first like LaRoche, Berkman etc. Eventually could Uggla make the switch to 3B?
  4. This team can still win this division, Quade is not being put in the same situation Trammel was in Detroit or anything.
  5. Tom... you might want to run this by the Mayor before the whole world knows about it.
  6. I was thinking the same thing.... If that is the case the Cubs could find a take for Soriano as a DH.
  7. If Pena can be had at a 1 year deal he goes to the top of my list. Obviously trading for AGon and extending would be awesome depending on who is given up but I would rather roll the dice on Pena on a 1 yr deal up to 10 mil or so in total salary (including incentives). Then the Cubs could focus on trying to improve @ 2B or just standing until next season.
  8. I do not put stock into anything Phil Rogers writes. But I would be interested to see who else is involved if this is a multiplayer deal.
  9. I hope this is true and I would think the Cubs do have enough to complete the deal without including Jackson and Castro. Archer/Mcnutt, Guyer, Hak Ju Lee/Vitters two low level prospects would probably do it. I would pull the trigger on anyone in the system not including Jackson/Castro is an extension would be possible. With Aram, Zambrano, Dempster, Fuk coming off payroll within the next 2 years I do not see how the Cubs could not afford a 6 yr 120 mil deal or something in that range. He would then be surrounded by younger inexpensive players like jackson, castro, colvin, dewitt etc....
  10. from mlbtr: Who are the most likely suitors for AG? Red Sox, Cubs, Braves, Mets are teams that come to mind. My proposal: One of Archer or McNutt One of Carpenter or J Jackson Vitters 2 low level top prospects
  11. If the cubs are going to go for a 1 year deal I would go for Pena or Berkman. Johnson is too risky you have a better chance of needing a replacement than him being healthy. I still have a gut feeling the Cubs will be very busy in the trade market this offseason. Any chance of going cheap @ 1B trading byrd and then spending on Crawford or a top line pitcher?
  12. Fine with me, no reason to pay 4 mil for Girardi, I think Quade can do just fine, however he may be screwed anyway if the right offseason moves are not made.
  13. Does anyone believe Berkman has enough left to sign a 1 year deal with the Cubs to try to bounce back for a free agent contract?
  14. Looked like something that gets rung up 80-90% of the time. He definitely went around but those are tough calls.
  15. Plus Reggie Golden just sounds like a good baseball players name.
  16. I think I will pass on any middle infielder named Lopez.
  17. I would much rather have Zambrano do the games with Len.
  18. Dear god I hope we do not downgrade from DeWitt to Jose Lopez.
  19. My guess is one of the below would get the job: Grace Moreland Otto Hollandsworth Plesac
  20. He has always been good in the NL would be worth a lower cost short term deal for a 4th or 5th starter wouldnt he?
  21. Sounds similar to Shin-Soo Choo, which isn't exactly a bad thing. Considering Choo posted a 5.7 WAR this past season, that's actually a really good thing. Sign me up for a solid defensive .300/.380/.480 out of centerfield for 2012 and beyond.
  22. I will take a shot in the dark. SS Castro 2B Uggla (traded for DeWitt, prospects) 3B Ramirez LF Soriano 1B LaRoche CF Byrd RF Colvin C Soto OF Kearns C Castillo INF Barney INF Inge / Cantu OF Fuld SP Zambrano SP Dempster SP Javy Vasquez SP Gorzelany SP Wells Marmol, Marshall, Cashner and youngsters I did not include Silva due to possibly being dumped or most likely being injured. Cubs get LaRoche on 1 year deal Cubs get Javy Vasquez 1 year deal with incentives up to 9 mil. DeWitt and prospects traded for Uggla. I think this will be a very busy and interesting offseason for the Cubs because I believe Hendry will feel the need to make moves in his current position but will need to get very creative to make these moves. I could see DeWitt, Wells, Gorzelany, Fukudome, and possibly Byrd, and some prospects discusses in trades.
  23. Man a day with the wind blowing out vs the brewers staff would be fun to watch those 3.
  24. Regardless if he changed his mind or not, they need him next year to be competitive. Yea big Z in the rotation all year will do nothing but help, I think Demp has proven he is a solid #2/great#3. Adding 1 more pitcher to the mix like a Tim Hudson would make for a very solid 1-2-3, use Wells in trade and have Gorz and Cashner fill out back of rotation.
  25. Another thing to look at if the Cubs do want to and can trade Fukudome would be possibly getting JD Drew back in a deal with boston for Aram?
