  1. I am too. But Gould is fine. He'd easily be our 2nd best pitching prospect, behind Vizcaino. No. He'd be behind Maples and Johnson, at the very least - and in a deep system, a rag-armed guy like Gould might not be in the top 10 pitching prospects.
  2. it would, but a couple weeks ago we thought him and withrow was a solid return You may have thought that, but I never did. Gould is a back of the rotation starter if he makes it at all.
  3. I'm expecting Gould to be the centerpiece, which will be very disappointing.
  4. Assuming Hamilton is off the table, Mesoraco would be almost a must-have to make a Cincy deal really attractive. If it's Toronto, take your pick - their system is absolutely loaded with young talent, especially pitching.
  5. Well, since he won't be playing in Los Angeles, I suspect he'll be fine.
  6. I'm skeptical. If the Dodgers were really offering Webster for Demp, Theo would have taken it by now. He's not on par with Delgado value-wise, but it's still overpaying for Dempster considering the Cubs have zero leverage.
  7. Or Theo could just tell him, "LA isn't going to happen - they're not serious about this. It's Atlanta or stay here, your choice."
  8. The Dodgers are looking to "add a position player" as well as a SP, according to the LA Times this morning. I'd give them Demp and Barney for Webster if they were willing.
  9. If you have faith in your scouts, you have to believe they could do better than Gould with a compensatory pick. And it seems unlikely to me that Dempster would accept a qualifying offer, given that this will be his last chance at a big check as a FA. Whether anyone is willing to sign him and give up their pick is another matter, but I would think Theo would roll the dice rather than trade him for scraps with a gun to his head.
  10. There's absolutely zero chance the Dodgers would include Lee for Dempster, given that the Cubs are in an even weaker position than they were before Dempster kneecapped them. Frankly I think it's extremely unlikely they'd include Webster. Probably Gould or bust, in which case I'd keep Dempster and make him refuse a qualifying offer.
  11. Dempster Foundation ‏@RyanDempsterFDN Nothing official to report. You will be the 1st to know. Thnx to all my fans for the support #RD46
  12. Rosenthal is sharing what he believes is likely to be true, but AFAIK not claiming any inside info to prove it. Merely stating his best guess as to the problem.
  13. Rosenthal tweets that the delay could be because Atlanta is demanding an extension before giving up Delgado, and Demp refuses to sign one.
  14. Congrats, Ronnie. And FU to the Veterans Committee for stiffing you while you were alive.
  15. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/chi-epstein-knows-all-about-going-extra-mile-20111013,0,3767078.story I Heart Theo Me, too. Seriously, I feel as if the Cubs are a different team already and Theo has not made his first move yet. Could you ever see Hendry attempting to dive off the couch and pretend to block a kick? He'd break the floor...
  16. The true benefit of a Zaun (or any other C) acquisition is that it would remove from Lou's limited perspective a reason not to use Fox. Lou is very old-school and closed-minded - in his world view he can't start Fox anywhere else because he might need him at C. Yes, I know it makes no sense but the man has said it himself. Though the Cubs could accomplish the same thing by calling up Cleavenger it's clear they have no plans to do that - so if you have to give up a so-so prospect for a Zaun-like talent, fine. Just get another catcher on the roster already.
  17. Looks good, Tim - concise and readable (and fine on my Firefox/Vista system).
  18. German's career statistical curve has a decidedly steroidal shape.
  19. The term "Blowhard" could have been invented for Schilling. That said, I'd be happy to see him in a Cubs uniform if I wasn't pretty sure he's a dessicated old fossil who hasn't been really good since 2004 and probably shouldn't even consider coming back.
  20. It's really nothing new, but I think the health of Harden (and Bradley) is the key to the entire season for the Cubs. When he's 90% or better, Harden is probably the best SP in the NL along with Lincicum - close to unhittable. Having a guy like that for 25-30 starts or having him for 10-15 (or the clearly injured guy who was just average by the end) is a huge variable. The Cubs and Harden seem to have a good handle on his condition (we never heard this much specificity out here in the Bay Area, though Beane may just have watergated it) but really, no assumption is safe when it comes to Harden.
  21. Word is, Peavy is into moe and maid cafes. Maybe Hendry can set him up.
  22. Cuban is out - let's move on. Pray for Utay.
  23. Ken in this (and many) cases is short for "Kenshin" which is a rather ancient Japanese name well-known in historical and pop cultural circles.
  24. I just can't believe even Seattle would be stupid enough to do Heilman for Cedeno straight-up, but I'd do it in a second if they would - he's an underrated pitcher IMO. I'd give them Cedeno and Hart for him, in fact.
  25. Quoted for originality and RTFLMAO
