  1. Sahadev Sharma retweeted J.P. Hoornstra ‏@jphoornstra 2h2 hours ago @jphoornstra: Adrian Gonzalez on fan interference: "It would've been more impressive if the baby had caught it."
  2. Ross pitched when I saw the Pads play the Cubs in SD. He reminded me of Marmol funnily enough - he pitches like a short reliever who doesn't trust his fastball. No question the slider is filthy. But even if his elbow doesn't explode, I just don't think he can sustain this level of success over the long-term. Obviously he's a good pitcher but the idea of giving up elite talent for him scares the hell out of me.
  3. Syndergaard - for Castro? Why not ask them to throw in Matt Harvey, too? The fantasy bubble Cub fans are living in when it comes to Castro's value never fails to astonish. FWIW, Gammons floated the idea of Edwards and McKinney (plus "a young SS") for Tyson Ross. No idea if he completely pulled that out of his ass, as he's wont to do. But I would be very leery of giving up McKinney in that deal, since Ross is about as sure-fire a bet for TJS as anyone in baseball.
  4. How can you not love Maddon, seriously?
  5. Perhaps Amaro was so adamant in correcting that statement because the truth is that he asked for both.
  6. More proof that Ruben Amaro is nucking futs:
  7. Finally an overslot guy - in the 26h round. Jared Padgett (Florida HS lefty) is a longshot to sign drafted that late, but the Cubs certainly should have some money and he is about a 4th-round talent. I sure hope all this extra money isn't targeted for Wilson, because I don't think he's worth it.
  8. Strikingly vanilla draft so far. And not the good vanilla either, the store-brand artificially-flavored kind.
  9. I'd be more inclined to believe this guy (read: 1% likely) if he knew how to spell "waive".
  10. James Wagner ‏@JamesWagnerWP Rafael Soriano has a minor league with Cubs. It's for $4.1M prorated base with up to $4M in bonuses for games finished & appearances.
  11. If Soler goes on the DL the Cubs really need to stop dicking around and get Baez up to the big club already.
  12. Baez and Alcantara sure would look good as part of the 25-man roster. Maddon just has his hands tied so badly - he has a four man bench which includes Ross, and two failed starters who should basically only pitch in blowouts in the pen. If you swapped them out with a real reliever, you could easily carry 12 pitchers. If the Cubs are serious about contending this season, they really need to stop this silliness with the roster.
  13. I see Lake having better at-bats - seeing more pitches, making more contact. He certainly hasn't been great, but he looks like a modestly competent hitter so far, which he never did at any point last year.
  14. Maddon is supposed to be the genius at juggling lineups and using the whole roster. Get Baez up here and let him start doing it. He doesn't have some kind of magical ability to make mostly worthless players like Ross or Herrera or Baxter or Lake not be horrible. Herrera won't be here if Baez comes up, and Ross is a backup C. Lake has actually been pretty good, though who knows if it'll keep up. The absence of guys like Denorfia and Olt is all the more reason Baez could make a difference. The bench is completely punchless at the moment.

  16. lol Do you not grasp the notion that seeing fewer strikes than any hitter in baseball might impact a hitter's production?
  17. Imagine the numbers Rizzo would have with a decent hitter behind him.
  18. Nothing wrong with Zimmerman's velocity now.
  19. Yes... But I must confess as I was watching that inning, I was thinking "Maddux-like ". If Hendricks can locate like that, he's going to be tough to hit. Picked off first with Harper up? I wouldn't make much eye contact in the dugout after that.
  20. 1 run today with that wind is really impressive. Dude can pitch.
