  1. This offense, the Cards, and a 24 MPH wind blowing in? I think the best Arrietta could hope for is a no-decision.
  2. Pretty clear Lester wasn't on the same page as Montero in that inning. He has great stuff, but between the Ross addiction and the yips it's pretty clear he really is a head case.
  3. Boy, Joe really does overmanage sometimes. Just put Ramirez out there to start the inning.
  4. I really don't understand what Maddon is doing with Ramirez. Is his plan to get him sharp to have him warm up every day and never use him?
  5. Agreed, we have a billion relievers, let someone who hasn't worked a while pitch one. And it can't be good for Ramirez' efforts to get back into form to sit for basically a week after his first outing.
  6. OK, now you absolutely have no excuse to let Jake pitch the 9th.
  7. OK, 98 pitches. No reason to push it - what if you need Arrietta to go deep next time? Give Ramirez the ball.
  8. With a three-run lead against this offense, I wouldn't push Arrietta. Really like to see Ramirez get an inning in this game.
  9. No. It's been basically unchanged all season.
  10. Motte's K/9 the last 2 years before TJS was 8.34 and 10.75. This year it's 5.65. Unless he sustains an unsustainable BABIP he can't continue to succeed doing what he's been doing so far - not at this level, anyway. Motte has always been a fastball pitcher, yes. But he was only about 1 MPH faster those last two seasons, so velocity isn't the difference. He was throwing 20-25% cutters, and clearly it was an effective knockout pitch for him. If he's going to keep up his current success, he's going to need to get the same mileage out of that pitch. And he threw the best one I've seen him throw this season tonight.
  11. Agreed. He's off my "pitchers that make me nervous when they come in" list No matter how hard he throws (96.8 tonight) it seems like only a matter of time before his peripherals catch up to him if all he throws is 4-seamers. But the one he got the K on tonight was nasty - 90 MPH, either a hard slider or a ridiculous cutter. If he could command that pitch regularly, he could be tough to hit.
  12. That's why it's a shame you let him throw 122 pitches last time.
  13. Bryant is a ridiculously professional hitter for a rookie.
  14. Man, was that a 91 MPH slider to get Grichuk? That ought to be illegal.
