  1. I keep hearing that Towers killed the deal, but all the news reports I've read have it that Hendry was the one who walked away. From Carrie Muskat's Tuesday recap posted today on MLB.com:
  2. Agreed. Not putting Gathright in there is moronic. I'm pretty sure he's concerned about the bench being short and that's why Z hit in the first place. You play to win, and don't worry about the bench IMO.
  3. Agreed. Not putting Gathright in there is moronic.
  4. The last update I heard was that Ricketts was trying to drum up outside investors to toss in funds in exchange for a seat on some new executive advisory board and a voice in the team's future decisions. So basically, it's nowhere close to being completed and sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if/when it finally does get finished.
  5. No offense, but could you please stop doing this? Nearly every post you make has this word and you continue to misspell it, which is pegging my OCD meter. It's frustrating, frustration, frustrated. And now, ironic.
  6. So I was talking with some co-workers today to see if anyone had been to Five Guys, and one of them mentioned this place: http://www.thecounterburger.com/lincolnpark/ Anyone ever been here? He was raving about it, and said that it's more of a bar than a sit-down restaurant. The menu is full of high-falutin' toppings like dried cranberries, herb goat cheese spread and carmelized onion marmalade. :-s
  7. If it weren't for the Dodgers in the NL West, I'd be inclined to predict that none of the teams leading their divisions today will end up winning them.
  8. I won't violate the rules here by attacking the poster instead of the post ... ... so I'll just mention that that is probably the most asinine, shallow, indefensible, and small-minded comment I've ever read on this board. http://ramblingrhodes.mu.nu/archives/normal_Internet-SeriousBusiness.jpg < http://www.gmilburn.ca/wp-content/posts/ultimate-laser-show/serious.jpg
  9. I'm going to be making several trips to Chicago next month, and as a guy who loves cheeseburgers, I'm leaning towards checking out this Five Guys that you folks are mentioning. Why are they so good? I'm a fan of Steak & Shake, so how does Five Guys compare?

  11. Maybe it's this? http://www.amazon.com/Rawlings-Palm-Finger-Glove-Pad/dp/B0000CA71D

  13. who cares if it was? this guy had about 2 more weeks left before everyone forgot about him anyway And two weeks too many at that. The only thing more embarrassing than this moron's personal video tirades are the people who take so much schadenfreude in watching them. Yeah, yeah, I know ... if I don't like it then I don't have to click the thread, etc.
  14. Maybe I'm in the minority, but has anyone else ever flirted with the idea of going into umpiring? I've always figured that for those of us (read: all of us here) who weren't blessed with MLB playing talent, being a "blue" would allow you to get as close to the action as possible. Unfortunately, I'm in my early thirties now and probably too old to try and climb the umpiring ladder. Still, I think it would an incredible experience and a potentially lucrative job ($80-$300k at the MLB level), and you'd get to know players and coaches on a semi-personal basis. Being the bad guy everyday would probably be a drag, though. MLB.com gives the basics for becoming an umpire, and lists two approved schools. Does anyone here have any experience umpiring in local levels or even in the MiLB? Ever been to umpiring school?
  15. And Comcast just now decided to switch on the CSN+ coverage. Die, Comcast, die.
  16. Assuming you're kidding, but still ... who would want a guy that throws the team under the bus for his own personal interests?
  17. Saturday's game will be on CSN and ESPN2, per Cubs.com.
  18. Preach it, brother.
  19. I understand that, and would usually agree 100%, but he's a particularly mouthy Cardinals fan. I just wanted him to advertise the fact, leading to the proper amount of well-deserved derision. He did mention that he could possibly dig up an old 2003 Marlins T-shirt to wear instead. And he's already made it clear that he'll be berating either Soriano or Bradley mercilessly.
  20. Anyone want to give me some tips for taking a Cardinals fan to see his first game at Wrigley? We're going to see the Marlins on 5/2, bleacher seats. I'm trying to convince him to wear his Cardinals gear, but he's worried about his safety. I keep telling him that he'll definitely catch a lot of flak from the Bums, but it's all in good fun. He's also a raging alcoholic, so I promised him we'd stop by one of the local watering holes afterwards. Any suggestions for where he'll take the most verbal abuse possible? Murphy's?
  21. When are your tickets for? Like I said my tickets are for June 20 vs Cleveland and July 11th vs Stl and Im yet to recieve them. The only reason I really care right now is because I have 4 of the 6 tickets to the Cleveland game sold, but I cant get my money until I recieve my tickets. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you with my too-general post. All of the tickets I got on Friday were for games in May. If you're waiting for tickets to June games and later, I'm sure they're coming soon.
  22. Got all of mine Friday, including tix to the Wrigley tour.
  23. Limited amount of responses, but their ResellerRatings grade is abysmal. I personally wouldn't buy anything from them.
