  1. Hopefully, the pure ridiculousness of that would put a stake in the heart of the fans' voting in the players.
  2. I didn't hear WGN play Chicago's "Saturday In The Park" once today. I'm blaming that for the loss.
  3. Who will win the 2009 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest tomorrow? The current record stands at 66 dogs, set by Joey Chestnut in 2007.
  4. He was at both games, in the same seat, and will probably be back tomorrow. I guess he's a meth-head version of the Cubs' pink hat guy. And wasn't the guy sitting on his right occasionally wearing a black ski mask or something? Goat-mask guy was heckling Cubs batters by yelling into the field mic ... pretty sure he was the one you could hear calling Soto a "burnout" yesterday. Just goes to prove that White Sox fans are more concerned with tearing down the Cubs than supporting their own.
  5. Don't feel like it's cheesy. Regardless of a few negatives, Wrigley Field deserves the reverence it receives from the majority of baseball folks. No one should feel embarrassed about feeling some emotion when they visit Wrigley Field. In fact, be proud that you're still able to experience and appreciate it.
  6. If it's a national network, I'm all for it. But if it's not, then I (and people not living in the Chicago viewing area) would be screwed from following the Cubs on tv. I would have to wait till the Cubs came to Atlanta (Peachtree TV) or hope they get a Nat'l tv game on ESPN, FOX, TBS to follow them. ATP I much rather have less then 50% of Cubs games on WGN over 0% of games on their own personal broadcast channel. There are no national networks for sports teams. MLB won't allow it. I mean, I get YES on my television, but it's blacked out during Yankee games. Any Cubs game that isn't shown on WGN (aside from the obvious exceptions) is one you won't be able to watch. Exactly. YES, SNY, and NESN are all regional networks, not national.
  7. I can get Boars Head deli meats at 3 or more local supermarkets here in central IL ... there's also a local deli and a butcher shop in my little town of 16,000. The deli serves meats from Rocke's. It's not the NYC-style, old-school deli that everyone thinks of, though. More "Midwest beef" than "Jewish nosh".
  8. Does Fontenot have a lisp, or is that just his Louisiana twang?
  9. I think both parties are to blame on the WGN sticking point. Granted, after Ricketts takes control of the team, Tribune shouldn't expect a sweetheart deal for it's TV station to broadcast the games. On the other hand, Ricketts should realize that WGN and the Cubs are attached at the hip in the minds of the fans, and that losing WGN as a broadcast partner would be very detrimental to the fanbase. WGN ceasing to broadcast the Cubs would potentially cost Ricketts far more than the $50 million he's arguing over.
  10. Too bad the game's a wash, but these "Baseball's Golden Age" shows they run on CSN and FSN are pretty good. Awesome to see color footage from 1920's-1960's games.
  11. Why the hell is Zambrano throwing Soto under the bus and dishing gossip to the media?! If you don't look at us, you're a cop. Yeah, I really don't have any idea what you're talking about. So, enjoy putting one over on me.
  12. It doesn't really help his case that he looks like a giant, bearded version of the kid in Deliverance. Oh, and that he also enjoys humping over-sized inanimate objects ... http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/stlog/dunca-hump-antibiotics.jpg
  13. Why the hell is Zambrano throwing Soto under the bus and dishing gossip to the media?!
  14. How many popped-up bunts is that lately? These guys need to work on that, among many other things.
  15. Anyone see the NBC News special on Obama last night? During one part, the Pres made a Five Guys run. Three black SUVs pulled up at the joint, he got out, pressed the flesh with everyone in the place and then gave his order at the counter. Then it showed him coming back to the White House carrying two huge bags full of burgers and fries. He even treated Brian Williams to a cheeseburger (ketchup only). So, for the record ... Obama votes for Five Guys, too. LINK, with photos
  16. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_yM6QBGZjQTU/SCTlqetPtjI/AAAAAAAAAv4/jIzcFaoKlGw/s400/maria_sharapova_03.jpg I've been waiting to get a picture in here :D :hello:
  17. I voted Quiznos, although they're ridiculously expensive. When I splurge on one of their prime rib subs, though ... wow! Like others have said, I haven't had some of the places listed. Isn't Publix a supermarket? I can buy subs at Kroger and Walmart, but I'd rather go to the deli can buy the stuff to make my own. For fellow Peoria-area locals on here, I'll toss out Avanti's and their Gondola. I used to like Jimmy John's but then I started wondering why they like to put alfalfa sprouts on some of their sandwiches and haven't been back since.
  18. I refuse to vote just for this reason. It would be comparable to creating a poll asking who the best baseball player of all time is, and leaving Babe Ruth off the list. For those of you that are not familiar with In n Out, that's all they do. When you get there, there is no need to stare at the menu for 15 minutes wondering what to order. They make a hamburger or a cheeseburger. That's it. The waiting lines to get through the drive through are always 10+ cars deep, whereas many other places you can zip right through with no wait. If you want a chicken sandwich, go somewhere else. You won't get one at In n Out. In n Out, the Babe Ruth of burgers. Same at 5 Guys. Despite my recently-acquired love for Five Guys, I'm obligated to point out that they also serve hot dogs at many locations, as well as grilled cheese and veggie sandwiches. I'd never eat one myself (well, maybe a grilled cheese), but they do have other things besides burgers.
  19. WTF is with all the wild throws to first base this season?!
  20. Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Top Chef are my reality vices. As others have said, Survivor (and the others, IMO) doesn't deserve to be put in with the other reality trash. Even after 18 seasons, I'm still hooked. If No Reservations is included under the "reality" umbrella, then there's quite a few others that I watch.
  21. ICHC is so unbelievably awesome, these words can only convey a microscopic fraction of its true awesomeness.
  22. I was in the right field bleachers for this one ... it was a good time, but ruined a bit by the score and some middle-aged drunk wench behind us who kept screaming that she deserved a ball "because it was her birthday." The bums were relentless on Hunter Pence. "Hey, Pence ... you're losing the battle against anorexia" and "Who let the batboy play right field?" were a couple of my favorites.
  23. Went to the Sunday game (really thought Soto was going to come through in the 9th ... disappointing #-o) and made the trek to Five Guys in Lincoln Park afterward. It was a great experience! The place is easy to find, just a short drive down Clybourn from the DeVry parking lot. We managed to get a parking spot in front and the place was busy but not crazy. Decor was interesting - red and white checkerboard, lots of signs touting their numerous positive reviews, stacks of sacked potatoes serving as aisle markers leading you to the counter. Having read posts on here and the Five Guys website, I knew the menu and the basic procedure. I went with the standard cheeseburger (w/ lettuce, mayo, mustard - I'm not a big veggies-on-burgers guy), drink and regular fries. The cashier was very nice and polite while taking our order. My female compadre selected the little cheeseburger, plain, also with drink and fries. She scoped out a seat while I stood by the pickup area and munched peanuts. Food arrived reasonably quickly, and very hot. As mentioned in other posts here, the fries were overflowing in the bag. Burgers were wrapped in foil and prepared as ordered, and we both agreed that they were very juicy and delicious. The buns complemented the burgers well, although being wrapped in foil causes them to soften considerably - some people might not like the slightly "mushy", squished-bun result but it didn't bother me at all. After letting them cool off a bit, the fries were also great, if a bit too salty for my taste. They really are thick homemade fries with the skin left on, totally unlike the frozen, bagged potatoes available from most quick serve joints. The end result was that we both quickly devoured the grub, and I even went back up and indulged in a second cheeseburger (that's four patties of beefy, cheesy goodness consumed in total!). Along with the peanuts and multiple refills on soda, we were both pleasantly stuffed and ready to collapse into the car for the trip home. As we cruised down I-55, it was decided that Five Guys is now our regular post-game stop, win or lose.
  24. It must be that infamous Cubs' pixie dust.
