  1. Defense aside, would you take Nady over Dye based on hitting alone? I wouldn't even if Nady was healthy, let alone coming off a second TJS surgery. Now I realize Dye is horrible defensively, but I hold firm to the position that you sign bench players for their bats, not their gloves. The only time this is not the case is when you're talking about backup catchers or defensive specialists like Blanco or Fuld. Nady is neither.
  2. what did he have done? TJS. For the second time in his career.
  3. On the bright side, Nady's splits are very balanced over the past three seasons. He has an .800 OPS or above for home and away games, day and night games, and against RHP and LHP. I'm worried as hell about the injury, but I'll just hope that the Cubs staff did their job researching that.
  4. Not a fan if it is Nady. We have enough injuries on this team to worry about as it is.
  5. Dye has OPSed .900 in day games over the last three years, with 41 homers in 589 ABs. Sounds perfect for the Cubs.
  6. Fall on the ball!
  7. Dear Jets, please advance to and win the Super Bowl. Thanks.
  8. Nady is coming off a pretty serious injury and Baldelli has a significant injury history as well. Why not take the healthy player? Because he's not as good at baseball as Nady or Baldelli. What is so great about Rocco Baldelli? He hits LHP about as well as Gomes and doesn't try to catch the ball with his face. So you're willing to take an inferior offensive player who is an injury risk over a healthier player with a better bat because of defense? Nevermind the fact that if either of these players make a start in RF, they'll likely be lifted for Fukudome/Fuld later if a right-handed reliever enters the game. Baldelli has played a total of just 125 games in the last three seasons combined. That is not a lot of games.

  10. Nady is coming off a pretty serious injury and Baldelli has a significant injury history as well. Why not take the healthy player? And although I'd definitely take Nady over Gomes if Nady was healthy, I'm not sure I'd take Baldelli over Gomes even if Baldelli was completely healthy.
  11. Hiring Mike Nolan as our DC would completely change how I view our offseason.
  12. Except he will be handed the 5th OFer job, which is pretty much the same thing. He was never going to platoon with Fukudome, since they are both lefties. Hopefully the fact that Hoffpauir can play OF too will keep Fuld off the roster. Doubtful though.
  13. I'm glad we're at least exploring some options for a 4th OFer instead of just handing the job to Fuld.
  14. I'm pretty sure the reason most people don't consider him the best is his lack of success from 50+, but he was 2/3 from 50+ this year and has still only attempted five kicks from 50 or beyond in his career. He has been successful in the clutch and his ridiculous 37-37 from 20-29 yards and 53-57 from 30-39 yards in his career is as accurate as you can get from inside 40 yards.
  15. Forget what I said about taking Kaeding over Gould, the guy can obviously not make important kicks.
  16. I don't think it's "hate" to think he should hit #6 if Soriano and Soto are performing more along the lines that we hope they will. Hell, if Byrd is doing well I don't have a problem with him hitting #2 and Fukudome hitting #6 instead. I was mainly responding to the comment that Byrd has an inability to hit well.
  17. why? I'd like anyone who hit .308/.386/.445, 122 OPS+ with great defense over the course of 13 years for us. Unlike Miles, my disliking of Grace doesn't have much, if anything to do with production. Just never really cared for what he had to say.
  18. Good deal, although with the amount of weight he has lost I too am concerned for his power.
  19. Grace was my least favorite Cub of all-time until Miles signed.
  20. The Byrd hate has got to stop. In what world is a CF who has OPSed above .800 the last three seasons not good? Just because Bradley got worse doesn't mean everyone who comes from Texas will follow suit. Bradley's career stats indicate 2008 was an abberation anyway.
  21. Even though I like Tice, it's not that simple. The running game in Minnesota excelled when he had Robert Smith running behind 3 Pro Bowlers with a defense that was loosened up due to Moss and Carter. When he was head coach it didn't excel consistently at all. He's been TE coach in Jax where they've had great running backs. To me, a nice rebound would be for Forte to repeat his 2008 numbers. 1200 rushing yards, 450 receiving yards, 3.9-4.0 ypc. He probably would have done it without Tice, but I do believe adding Tice can't hurt. I am a firm believer that 2008 was closer to the real Forte than 2009 was.
  22. I hope this was a joke. The only kicker in the NFL who I'd take over Gould is Kaeding.
  23. Tice officially hired as OL coach according to ChicagoBears.com. I think you'll see a nice rebound from Matt Forte in 2010. I doubt its a coincidence that wherever Tice has gone, the running game has excelled.
  24. I highly suspect this to be the case as well. After a heart-breaking loss, I wouldn't be in the mood to let other teams interview my coaches either.
  25. I'm pro-Hendry compared to most on this board, but if he trades away prospect(s) for a reliever, I'll officially be on the anti-Hendry bandwagon with the rest.
