  1. So glad I'm not a Portland fan these days.
  2. I'm almost entirely convinced that Soriano "not being 100%" is all in his head.
  3. Although this trade does make the Cavs a better team it also puts even more pressure on them to make the finals. Will be interesting to see what happens.
  4. Do people here really think Dwight was serious when he said that? C'mon. I'm sure he is a bit full of himself, but who isn't in sports these days? Rose will be fine.
  5. Thought the game would be much closer than it was. Nice to get a convincing win. Too bad we're headed toward a beating at the Q tomorrow night.
  6. 88-74 and Wild Card.
  7. As a Magic fan I'd very much welcome a Redick and AJ for John Salmons trade. Right now is probably the highest Redick's value will ever be.
  8. We could have hired a number of worse coaches for OC. Solid hire. Now for the DC position...
  9. Next offseason at the latest. By then his value will be much less. He'll have played his age 30 season, he'll be making millions and due for another raise regardless of performance. If you want to get any value out of Theriot, you trade him within the next 6 months. Castro may be ready before then, and there's enough depth to hold ground without him for a bit. I think this should depend on where the Cubs are in terms of the playoff race this summer. I wouldn't be too comfortable with a revolving door at SS while making a playoff push.
  10. Chudzinski Martz Rogers
  11. Nothing should be done with Theriot until Castro is ready. Castro is not ready. Next offseason perhaps.
  12. You're reading too much into my phrasing, which was done simply as a contrast to cubsbearsmagic's post immediately preceding mine. If you prefer Nady over Dye, thats fine, as most here do. However this "Dye is worse than AAAA" stuff is nonsense. Do you have any stats to back this up or is it purely speculation?
  13. With an old, injury prone team like we have, though, you need to feel comfortable with your bench players getting significant playing time. I don't feel that way with Dye. You thought the opposite of injury prone was a guy coming off his second TJS?
  14. I don't think Orlando is quite the nightmare for Cleveland like they were last year. The addition of Shaq and Parker/Moon and the subtraction of Turkeyglue remove a lot of the matchup problems between the teams. They've only played in the first week so far, but the Cavs torched them in Orlando. I think a healthy Boston is the only team really challenging Cleveland for the East, and the Cavs are well on their way to home court(especially over Boston). Other than losing a clutch shooter, not having Turkoglu doesn't really hurt them too much, although VC has been so bad lately that I suppose one could argue that it does. That said, I don't see Cleveland just rolling over Orlando in a playoff series. They've gotten two nice additions this year in Barnes and Anderson, and Redick has stepped it up as well.
  15. While Atlanta may be red hot, Im not sure how much of a statement is made with Atlanta being on the backend of a back to back after a hard fought game with the Celtics last night. A good win sure, but I don't think any statement was made. It was an extremely convincing victory to re-claim the division lead. They dominated the game in every way you can dominate a game. I'm sure you're right about Atlanta's game with Boston having something to do with it, but an 18-point victory is an 18-point victory.
  16. An 18-point win for Orlando tonight against a red-hot Atlanta team. Talk about a statement game. Howard was a beast, 31 points, 19 boards.
  17. As being one of the few people here who preferred Dye over Nady, this makes me feel better in knowing that we at least tried to sign Dye first.
  18. Even for a second TJS? I've heard many times that a second TJS comes with a lower success rate than the initial TJS.
  19. I'm not sure why there are some people in this thread acting as if Nady will be playing the whole season at 100%. His agent can say he'll be ready by ST all he wants, but a second TJS is serious no matter which position you play. Perhaps they have more confidence that Hendry did his medical research than I do. And while there is definitely potential for this to work out very nicely, there is also a chance we just threw 3.3 million down the drain.
  20. I'd be all for Washburn at the right price. However, I don't see how we have any spending money left unless payroll has been increased.
  21. You've never seen that it's different for hitters? Seriously? They always say that. Pitchers can throw again earlier, they just aren't 100%. But it takes a hell of a lot more precise elbow ability to pitch than to go back to being a position player. I was talking specifically about the article I posted.
  22. This would be fine if Nady wasn't injured himself. I'm reading reports that TJS takes a MINIMUM of 12-14 months to fully heal. Nady had the procedure last July. So if he can't hit we should have just went with Fuld as our 4th OFer. Can you link to those reports for hitters? I seem to recall shortstops recovering from tjs much faster than that and they have much more strain in the field than Nady will have. Most of the articles discussing Nady's TJS last summer gave the 12-14 month timeframe. This one gave a 12-18 month timeframe (fourth paragraph). I don't see anything saying its different for hitters. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090626&content_id=5543824&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb&partnerId=rss_mlb
  23. Defense aside, would you take Nady over Dye based on hitting alone? I wouldn't even if Nady was healthy, let alone coming off a second TJS surgery. Now I realize Dye is horrible defensively, but I hold firm to the position that you sign bench players for their bats, not their gloves. The only time this is not the case is when you're talking about backup catchers or defensive specialists like Blanco or Fuld. Nady is neither. With an injury prone guy like Soriano in left and older players in center and right, having a guy on the bench who isn't a liability in the field is important, though. With the signing of Nady, if Soriano gets hurt for a month, we won't have to rely on only Fuld to replace him. If we had signed Dye, then we would have had the choice of starting Fuld every day or starting a DH in left every day. Nady is the superior option for this team. This would be fine if Nady wasn't injured himself. I'm reading reports that TJS takes a MINIMUM of 12-14 months to fully heal. Nady had the procedure last July. So if he can't hit we should have just went with Fuld as our 4th OFer.
