  1. Not a southpaw, sorry. Can't speak for Duke, though. Reverse splits guy, maybe? And where the horsefeathers is Duke? He's disappeared.
  2. Theo, to anyone inquiring about KB: http://media.tumblr.com/bc1d572d2717fae60fd7933c11b1d46d/tumblr_inline_mmsz1pcaJ71qz4rgp.gif Theo, to anyone inquiring about J-Hey: http://cdnimg.gifmiao.com/weibo/b8d329d5165d42c8c6513946fd053861.gif A.J. Preller: Sandy Alderson:
  3. It's all so bizarre. The story on its own of Ryan manipulating these people isn't that strange. It sounds like any old catfishing story -- except that the catfisher was a teenage girl, which is also very odd, as Sofa was saying. The thing that drives this over the top is the baseball writing dynamic being added in. This person actually became a baseball writer and was writing for national publications. And the catfishing was happening on the side of that.
  4. I'm definitely out of touch here. It all seems very strange to me. And it really sucks that these women were emotionally abused and deceived. I don't want to victim blame. And they are certainly victims. "Ryan Schultz" is deranged person that took advantage of innocent people. Everything that I've read about "his" interactions have been vague, though. So I don't even know what really was going on. I'd probably find it more sick and disgusting than... weird (?) if I knew exactly what was going on. But I just find it incredibly odd that this person created a sleazy, married, middle-aged man to start these relationships.
  5. I try to not come across as victim blaming, but that was definitely an 'am I out of touch, no the children are wrong' moment in my head. "I wouldn't have sent him those nude photos if I had known he wasn't a married, father-of-two, middle-aged man."
  6. Hopefully the Arrietas and Lackeys took their crew to Shedd Aquarium so Tommy could get some snacks.
  7. Jason Heyward: You're Bryce Harper! Bryce Harper: Yes. Jason Heyward: You play right field. Bryce Harper: Yes. Jason Heyward: I play right field too. Bryce Harper: So? Jason Heyward: Well, are you better than me? Bryce Harper: Well, I've never met you, but... yes.
  8. Schwarber would have been more appropriate. According to Al Yellon, his charity work this year caused his death.
  9. lol. The failings in the playoffs have been going on longer than just this season, people! It goes all the way back to 2015... except for that one year.
  10. how does his gf and or wife feel about it tho She has a name. It's Females.
  11. Mike Maddox: Somehow Mike Maddux.
  12. TT just changed his vote to the Astros after that First Pitch ceremony.
  13. Chatwood is a guy that's intrigued me for a while. I think he would really take off if we get him out of Coors. Since he's been a Rockie, he has a 5.17 ERA at home and a 3.18 ERA on the road. That's in over 500 innings. When I wrote an article examining Hendricks' ability to get weak contact, Chatwood was one of the few ground-ball pitchers I identified as a true FIP-beater. And his launch angle and exit velocity numbers at home and away are drastic. Balls are hit off him on average 2 mph slower on the road. His balls in the air are at much higher launch angles on the road. Since the start of the 2016 season, he has the 17th-lowest xwOBA on the road of 62 pitchers that have thrown at least 5,000 pitches. He's also throwing the ball harder than ever and got more swings and misses than ever last year. His walk rate started trending in the wrong direction, but I wonder if that might drop once he gets out of Coors, too. For sure, though, he is a lot better when he gets more movement on his stuff when he's not in Coors. I think he'd be an excellent addition.
  14. This is what I recommend, Iv'e done it and I find life much less stressful. Or do what these guys do, surround yourself with only people who think like yourself and run everyone else of by bullying them. That's what they do here at NSBB. Just stick your head in every now and then to laugh at them from time to time and enjoy the 2 or 3 posters here that have intelligent ideas. do you pay attention when you're perusing this forum? we horsefeathering argue about literally everything all the time. like for example, just the other day someone was trying to say you weren't a complete [expletive], and I swooped in and showed them just how dumb they were Also, our discord in following up Mad Men gifs with either Frasier gifs or Seinfeld gifs probably did this team in.
  15. This is going to sound like a rationalization, and to a certain extent it is, but I think the variability of pitchers leads to pitching coaches getting a bit more credit than they deserve. I mean think of the pitching coaches that many fans are aware of for their success outside their own team. Off the top of my head I can list off Bosio, Rothschild, Searage, Cooper, Warthen, Maddux, past guys like Duncan and Black. On the other hand I don't think I could name 3 MLB hitting coaches. Yeah, and I may be way off. It could be that Bosio is a Pitching Whisperer that is able to transform guys and I just don't understand everything he's done to make our staff better. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because there have been a number of guys who have had dormant potential unearthed under his tutelage. There's also Edwin Jaxon, though. But I think it's just something that is hard for any of us to understand fully. So I never get too worked up about coaching changes.
  16. Definitely a little strange. I don't like it. But I also don't know if I should care. I thought Bosio was a great pitching coach. But, then again, all of our pitchers started throwing 4 mph slower this year and we walked like 7 per 9 innings. So what the hell does he know? I'm honestly not sure how much affect hitting and pitching coaches have. I think having good organizational approaches is important. And it's obviously better to have a pitching coach who is more knowledgeable. But all of that work is done behind the scenes, so it's hard for us to know exactly how significant a coach's impact is. You can look at results, but that's a fool's errand. So I'm not a huge fan of this move, but I'm not going to get too worked up about it.
  17. Everyone who wanted the hitting coach to take the fall: http://www.slate.com/content/dam/slate/Slate%20Plus/articles/2015/05/150521_PLUS_MM-ISaidTheOpposite.gif.CROP.original-original.gif
  18. Those articles are going to be really funny when we win 108 games next year.
  19. I hear Dusty Baker is looking for work.
  20. "The Cubs cruised to an NL Central title this year and will next year, too. Last year it looked like the Cubs could cruise to the NL Central title every year, but that's not the case anymore."

  22. then explain the 92 wins, division championship and NLCS appearance. The Giants never got close to those things in odd years. The Cubs are better and cooler and smarter, so :tease: Yes. The Giants were a bad team and subsisted purely because of BeliEVEN magic. The Cubs now have Even Year Power, but are also good. So we will be good every year, but the only sure thing is that we will win it during even years.
