  1. Not as cool as that ring above... but I bought one of those rings gobigred posted about and it had the correct year engraved on mine. Mine was the Rizzo edition of it. Seems like it's exactly the same as the replica rings that were selling for much more, but what do I know?
  2. This season is going to be hilarious.
  3. Hmm... I thought for sure I was going to be right this time.
  4. I'm calling it. Yu signs within the next 6 hours.
  5. Why don't Yu just tell me which team you want to play on?
  6. Wait. I thought I was pretty up to speed on weird and outrageous Illinois high school mascots. What school is this?! They were a high school that's near the Mississippi River, south of the Quad Cities. It was a consolidation of a bunch of really small towns and located in Stronghurst. If I have the story right, Biggsville and Stronghurst used to be big inter-county rivals. Biggsville consolidated with some other small towns and formed the Union Yankees. The rest of the towns in the southern part of the county ended up consolidating, too. And became... the Southern Rebels. Union and Southern have since consolidated together.
  7. There was also a school near mine that was the Southern Rebels. Their fans would wave Confederate flags in the stands during games. This was in the mid-2000s. And in Illinois.
  8. This was a local town's mascot until the '80s:
  9. Only white people watch hockey, so they've kept it their own little racist secret.
  10. Ian Happ has a great recipe for liver, fava beans and a nice chianti.
  11. May we be condemned to receiving only Heyman updates until the end of time.
  12. Hi. Just posting so people see this thread bumped and think there is news.
  13. There's really no excuse to not go wire-to-wire in first.
  14. The Brewers currently project to finish 17 games behind the Cubs (it probably gets a win or two better with more realistic playing time estimates). That's not Cubs-tainted glasses. That's an unbiased (Steamer, in this case, I think?) projection system. They are not talking about either team like fans of a team projected to be 17 games worse than the Cubs. People think they are adding to an 86 win team, but they're really not. Let's just hope they don't find out about the power of Mad Men gifs.
  15. The Cubs nearly didn't win the World Series in 2016.
  16. see? [tweet] [/tweet] The Cubs' move is to book KB's and Rizzo's plane tickets to Spring Training.
  17. why would you think that If the Cubs don't make a move heading into the regular season, their moves are Chatwood and Morrow and lost Arrieta? The Brewers were nearly better than them last year. I'm sure there's been one episode of Big Bang Theory that was nearly as funny as one of the early Parks and Recreation episodes. But if we were to gather both writing teams, who do you think is more likely to give us a funny episode?
  18. Stearns is going to end up spending $4 billion to try to get his team's projection over .500.
  19. Looks like the Reds might have to settle for fourth place after all.
  20. Previous Craig Edwards pieces include: “Randal Grichuk and Kris Bryant: Not as Different as You Might Think.” “If Anthony Rizzo Disappears in the Springfield Mystery Spot, the Cardinals Could Win the Division.” “What if Jake Arrieta had to Pitch Left-handed?”
  21. It died when Schwarber hit that ball into the Allegheny.
  22. lol that whole thing is hilarious. So he admits that we are built to make the playoffs. Definitely good enough to win a lot of games. But we aren't built to win in the playoffs... despite, you know, winning a World Series already.
  23. The real mid-rotation guys that are likely to regress are all the ones who had down years after finishing in the top 3 in Cy Young voting the year before. It's definitely not the 30-year-olds who randomly posted 2.7 ERAs after languishing in anonymity their whole lives.
  24. Highlighted my favorite part. The Cubs right now are 10th in projected SP WAR. Adding Darvish would likely added 2.2 wins to that projection (over the combo of Monty/Butler that they have as 5th starter right now). This would cause them to leap all the way to 4th behind Indians, Astros and Dodgers. They would have 3 starters with a projected WAR of 3.5 or higher, compared to the Dodgers (1), Astros (2), and Indians (2). Hendricks, Quintana and Chatwood are all between 28 and 29 years old. Hendricks proved last year that if he does regress from 2016, it won't be far. There is no reason to suggest Quintana is due to regress, and Chatwood doesn't have much of a strong track record to regress from at this point. So basically talking about Lester I guess. That highlighted line is quite ironic coming from a Brewers fan.
