  1. Just spitballing here: Maybe it has something to do with how his swing is designed right now. So, it's kinda like how flyballs against extreme groundball pitchers usually do more damage than flyballs against extreme flyball pitchers. Since the extreme flyball pitchers are trying to get you to hit flyballs, then they get a lot of lazy flyouts. But, when a groundball pitcher gives up a flyball, then it is often a mistake up in the zone that gets hammered. Maybe when Soler really gets into one, it is bound to be of the line drive or groundball variety, since that is what his swing is designed to do. And his flyballs are maybe off of pitches he just misses a bit. Or maybe it's just small sample size nonsense.
  2. Yes, let's panic about anything possible with a 7-run lead.
  3. Yeah, I think so. There are a number of factors that would suggest it: 1. Fowler had a an awful first half, and he actually did have bad luck on called strikes out of the zone that hurt him. 2. Coghlan had some bad BABIP luck early on that was dragging him down. 3. We have played a much easier schedule in the second half (which actually might mean this is a little fluky). But, when we in our really poor stretch offensively, we faced a bunch of tough pitching. 4. The wind basically was never blowing out in the first half -- which might help explain our amazing starting pitching cooling off lately. 5. Most importantly, we basically swapped Castro and Schwarber. And while that might bite us on defense, it makes our offense so much better. Regardless, this offense is pretty scary right now. Just look at those OBPs at the top of the order.
  4. Hot damn, everyone is producing. Except Soler.... :(
  5. Somewhat new. Found the board a few years ago and lurked for awhile. Then I started posting last year. Had a few issues with work and family that kept me pretty busy and off the board for awhile. But, I like it and think I'll stick around.
  6. I want to believe that there was some next-level thinking behind it that we don't understand, but I think he just tilted and made a mistake. He did also trade Josh Donaldson with 4 years of arbitration left on his contract. He's made a few head-scratchers lately. Isn't he eligible next year? I think he was a Super 2 guy with 4 years of arbitration. He has three more years of control after this, though.
  7. I want to believe that there was some next-level thinking behind it that we don't understand, but I think he just tilted and made a mistake. He did what you cry about Theo not doing. He took a risk and traded top prospects for a chance to win and lost. No. People "crying" about Theo not trading prospects are crying about people like you not wanting to trade run-of-the-mill prospects. Addison Russell was pretty much a consensus Top-5 or so prospect in all of baseball when we acquired him. Also people were "crying" about Theo not really doing anything at all. Nobody was begging to trade any prospects that were in the top 3 of baseball, mainly because we didn't have any.

  9. lol 3rd best in baseball = "when completely healthy it's fine" Isn't he always harping about how the Giants are "only" a certain amount of games back, and droning on and on about how inevitable it is that they will pass us or whatever? Yet, there offense is garbage. Right.
  10. Castro can actually make contact and get a fluke hit or two, pitchers know exactly how to pitch Soler if they need a strikeout Throw it five inches off the plate and get the umpire to still ring him up? This. Solers strike zone has been absurd and it's gotta [expletive] with his approach There's not really any evidence that Soler has been a victim of an unusual number of bad strike calls, and people have looked for it. It's just a meme that entered people's heads and confirmation bias took over, especially since it's more comforting than talking about what a dumpster fire he's been this season and how that's bad for his projection. Thanks. My post certainly wasn't a joke, alluding to the meme.
  11. I noticed him awhile ago. He also has 32 errors in 61 games, mostly at SS and 3B -- good for a .860% Fielding %.

  13. You're just being willfully contrarian. You know pitchers can add to their value by being a competent bat. Zambrano added like 1.5 WAR one year, and Lester is literally the worst hitting pitcher in the game. You don't see how that lessens his value in the NL? For a good as a pitcher he can be, he continually shoots himself in the foot with pretty much every other single aspect of NL baseball. Zambrano is a clear outlier and a really stupid comparison point. Lester is obviously a [expletive] hitter even by pitcher standards, but ultimately most of them are just varying versions of the same [expletive] hitter. I really enjoyed this exchange. Zambrano's 1.4 offensive WAR in 2008 was the most any pitcher has had in over 40 years. Clearly not an outlier, though.
  14. I mean, Bryant is two days removed from a 12-game hitting streak. You people are so dour.
  15. I know, he was only OPS'ing .949 in August prior to tonight.
  16. Yep. Our 17-games-over-.500 team is going to lose 15 of 17.
  17. And only 3 ahead of the Giants Please fall into an open manhole. It's like you thrive on always thinking the worst is lurking or inevitable for the team. The best part is where he says "only" 3 ahead. Boo - [expletive] - hoo.
  18. We've still got this. Schwarber three-run shot to tie it.
