  1. Best 1B in baseball for sure Eh... for sure? We've got a pretty good one ourselves. And Joey Votto is still pretty great. I mean, Goldschmidt has a .398 BABIP this year. And, while he always has a high BABIP because he is such a greater hitter, that is pretty unsustainable. He's definitely great. And he's probably number one. But, there's not that much of a gap, if any, between him and Rizzo.
  2. I think there's enough there for me, personally, to think he will at least have a career as a competent major league regular. Some might think otherwise. I know Kyle does. The dongs will come and Kyle will be wrong.
  3. Yes, but maybe we finish with the first Wild Card and want the Giants to finish close enough to the Pirates, so that neither of those two teams could set their rotation up for the Wild Card Game.
  4. I don't really care about these head-to-head match-ups right now. They really do little to affect our current odds of winning the World Series. And we won't know if these games will actually affect us in the Wild Card or Division races until much later in the season. It might end up being a ten-game gap in either direction. The Cardinals sweeping the Giants improves our World Series odds more right now. But, that could change very quickly if any of the competing teams goes on a run or falls off. And, it also hurts our chances of reaching our optimal World Series odds at the end of the regular season: winning the division and being a 10+% chance. It's not quite as simple as our World Series odds going up 5% by winning the division and down 5% by not making the playoffs, because these odds are fluid. What helps them now might actually suck when we look back on it. So, I'm Team Happy to See the Giants Lose... but, also Team [expletive] the Cardinals; Let's Take the Division. But, I'll care more about these games when I look back at them a month from now.
  5. The obvious answer. And I know this is a bit OT, but it did get me thinking how the big names of the Great Internarional Free Agent Splurge of 2013 stack up against the recommended slot bonuses for MLB Draft Picks: At 2.8MM, Eloy Jimenez got roughly the equivalent of a mid 1st Round Pick. Gleybar Torres (1.7MM) and Jen Ho Tseng (1.625MM) each got that of a late 1st Round/ Supplemental rounder. Frandy DeLarosa (700K) Erling Moreno (750K) and Jefferson Mejia ($850K) got roughly 3rd round $. Eh... way different. The draft and IFA work under different signing pool caps. The international guys are also mostly 16-year-olds, and thus are way bigger boom or bust prospects, with emphasis on the "bust." And if there weren't a cap on the draft, those top picks would get way more than they are getting. The money for both should be viewed much differently, as there are a variety of reasons and differences in process that lead to those bonuses.

  7. And my penance for cherry picking a small sample size is a strikeout swinging in his next AB.
  8. I had a fantasy football draft today and missed all of the game. So my last memory of the team is that we are still super awesome and that we will never lose again. So keep it up on Tuesday.
  9. Javy is 2-2 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base. Definitely cherry picking here, but in his last 9 games: 5 BB and only 5 K in 35 PA. And on a semi-related note, I'm really not coping well with minorleaguecentral.com still not being updated.
  10. Because the bullpen has been stretched and used a ton lately. Should be able to finish this game with everyone but Richard and Rondon. He ended up throwing, what, 106 pitches? It's fine; they've done well managing his workload and were trying to give the pen a break. And we've been winning a lot, and, thus, using our good relievers a lot. If we want to keep Grimm, Strop, and Rondon fresh -- and we plan on never losing again -- then we are going to have to steal a few innings from starters and/or bad relievers.
  11. Hawk right now: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/irrational_game/Mobile%20Uploads/andy-dwyer-life-pointless-gif.gif
  12. We just played four games against the Giants and didn't catch Bumgarner...
  13. I mean, nobody here has done that. He's just a guy. He's not good and not terrible.
  14. He's a better option against LHP than Coghlan, so there's that. As for the "hate," other than BigSlick's post, I see people on Twitter bitching every time he's in the lineup. And Duke, he's never hit for power so it's not like we should've been expecting that. Did I say I expected him to hit for power? Just because he didn't then and doesn't now doesn't mean that it's not still a bad thing.
  15. I mean, he's ok. But he also hasn't hit for any semblance of power and hasn't drawn many walks. And he is riding a .350 BABIP and a 59.0 UZR/150 in LF to some still pretty meh numbers.
  16. I mean, I know you hate Soler. But, Denorfia sucks too. There is hardly a difference between the two. And Soler brings with him a lot more upside.
  17. why would you expect them to go .500? they are both really good teams. the ground that they gained on the giants is way more important than the ground they didn't make up on the cards/pirates. It's wishful thinking, as it isn't unheard of for even excellent teams to play average ball over a couple weeks. It's not like we're asking the Cardinals to pull a reverse Cubs, as glorious as that would be. And that can still happen in the ensuing weeks. You are focusing entirely too much on what happened in these last two weeks alone. There is a reason we had to make up ground, in the first place. [expletive], we are in the midst of winning 14 of 15 and some people are harping on games other teams didn't lose.
  18. Yeah, well... so
  19. Am I to understand that there are seven minor league baseball players that literally didn't make an out all week?
  20. Random tidbit, but I was just looking through some stats from 2008 and Carlos Zambrano was worth 1.4 WAR offensively that year.
