  1. So this removes the option of Kluber and Carrasco starting 4 times in the series. He also says it's to keep Kluber on regular rest since he'd have five days off between Games 1 and 5. However, Kluber pitched on the 30th which means he'll get an extra day off before Game 1 so Francona isn't keeping him on his normal schedule. Just seems like a case of the manager trying to get too cute with the rotation. Game 7 got him shook.
  2. Isn't the real key, keeping you out of the stadium? I have won my last 3 games including the home opener and game 1 of the NLDS last year. I willed Javy's home run to go out Super Cubs are back and so is Super UMFan.
  3. Just pay him under the table in order to get him to wait. What's the worst that could come of it?
  4. Looks like we're going to have to sweep the Vaunted Nats to prove a point.
  5. They weren't even better than the Iowa Cubs.
  6. Yeah, well, I won a new car!
  7. Want me to go start the game thread on the Nats' message board?
  8. No, I thought ahead here. Since trading Schwarber from my fantasy team fixed him, and Lester is on my team, I'll just have to trade him, too. Update: Just released him from my fantasy team 30 minutes ago. He'll be good to go for the playoffs. Update: Jon is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA since I released him from my fantasy team.
  9. For an update on this... It's possibly article worthy, but lol at me doing that right before the playoffs. http://media.tumblr.com/22123b212b1596437e00f81fdc6c1e46/tumblr_inline_mlaugebUGV1qz4rgp.gif So I made a twitter thread instead: [tweet] [/tweet] Basically, Jon was at his worst since coming off the DL at the start of September -- which was pretty obvious. His spin rates were lower than they have been all season and he wasn't throwing his four-seam fastball inside to righties at all. When he was throwing his four-seam fastball, he was missing way off the plate, arm-side. So all of the things in that article had been even more problematic in September. In his two starts since that article, he's throwing his fastball inside to righties more often. And he isn't missing way off the plate as much. And his fastball spin rates have been much better. Let me just say, though: It's only two starts. So Jon is definitely still broken and won't ever be fixed. And he is a sure bet to be terrible in the playoffs. Abandon all hope.
  10. It's always a sad day when you have to wait a year to face the Reds again.
  11. Yeah, sorry, that's what I meant to say. If there is residual irritation from the first half, I'd think it would be canceled out by the residual joy of winning the World Series. Regardless, it would be silly to hold the first half against them with how they've played in the second half.
  12. To be fair, the lopsided nature of the season (under .500 at the break, and zooming out ahead afterwards) probably gave us a lot of room to feel frustrated. Even when the team is in the midst of a great second half run, there's probably enough residual irritation from the initial scuffling that I can imagine people not enjoying it enough. Hard to be too frustrated when you are coming off your first World Series championship in a century. If people can't enjoy this team, they are freaking weirdos.
  13. Joe's inner monologue at this point... "Joe, what if you do something really crazy and play the lineup that gives you the best chance of winning?"
  14. Ol' Drinky Joe finally got it figured out 161 games into the season.
  15. the horsefeathers does this have to do with the cardinals? That's who Cardinals fans are going to be rooting for in October again.
  16. There was an even earlier post where one of the VB fans was bemoaning how horrible we were, and you said "I promise you this team will win 92 games." You were breaking down the remaining schedule and trying to point out that the Brewers had actually been pretty terrible. For some reason it was a post that stuck with me. Luckily I predicted every possible record between 85 and 117 wins so no matter what I had a post I could bring up.
  17. I kinda forgot Starlin was on a good Cubs team until posting that. It seems like he's been gone more than 2 years.
  18. Once a copycat, always a copycat.
  19. With their season on the line, in a tie game, the Cardinals got 0 hits and struck out 8 times against Dillon Maples, Justin Wilson & Jen-ho Tseng.
  20. lol what an embarrassing loss for an embarrassing franchise
  21. The Mad Men battery coming through again!
