  1. ](*,) sadly, given lou's a.d.d. managing, it wouldn't surprise me if this happened. Come on, he wasn't even finding the strike zone and every guy was hitting him hard. Throw the Brewers out against him and the Cubs get destroyed. If Marquis or Marshall looks strong the next few starts, I would put Lieber in over Hill. i like the part where you pretend the last two years of data about both Hill and Lieber just doesn't exist and/or indicate what either is likely to do over the course of a full season.
  2. this would be a terrible idea. if you're going to bump someone from the rotation, it should be Marquis. moving Hill into the bullpen shouldn't even be anywhere in any realm of possibility. it's insane.
  3. keep it up, Ryan. i'd love to be wrong about you.
  4. i think the reason for the (over, possibly) reaction stems from last year. if i remember right, marmol was really leaned on last year to the point where people were wondering if he was being over-used. then lou starts off this year by putting him out there four of the first six games and intends to use him again today, making it five out of seven.
  5. Marmol's arm is going to fall off before we even get to September. :banghead: yeah. i mentioned this in the game thread, but marmol should get the day off too, imo. what's the point of having 12 pitchers if you aren't going to use them?
  6. i said i wasn't going to complain until the cubs played at least ten games, but i hope lou doesn't use marmol today. he's already pitched four of six games, i think. what's the point of carrying 12 pitchers if you aren't going to use them? i'd hate to see marmol get worn down.
  7. i just turned mine on and it seems to be working okay.
  8. winning would be a nice change of pace. let's try that.
  9. I selfishly hope Bassett is back. I watched him a lot in high school and always seemed like a good kid when I talked to him. On the other hand, I hope the door hits Ellis on the way out. Not sure what message it sends allowing either back, though. yeah, i'm not sure how realistic and/or smart it is to bring either back. i'm clearly not prevy to the full details of their dismissal or departure from the team. it is one of many difficult positions Crean is going to face right off the bat. i've always been a big fan of Bassett and therefore hope he hasn't burned the bridge to re-instatement. Ellis...meh...i guess i don't really care. i don't think he has a lot of options at this point if he wants to play basketball. the biggest thing Crean is going to face right away is trying to salvage a team from the players still "around" the system, for lack of a better term (Bassett, Crawford, Holman, McGee, etc.). i know Holloway had Marquette on his short list, so maybe he'll stick with the Hoosiers now. i assume Ebanks is gone.
  10. i'm definitely happy with Crean. he's a solid coach and i enjoy watching the style that his teams played at Marquette. he was definitely one of my top choices and, after recent events, i'm somewhat surprised he took the job. now i hope he can bring Bassett back into the fold. i would think Crean's style of play would be great for him.
  11. Limited sample size aside, his 2.97 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 10.2 K/9, and .559 opponent's OPS in relief for his career coming into this season certainly don't look bad. I came here to post that same thing. What exactly is it about Wood's numbers as a reliever that makes people think he can't be a closer again?
  12. i wasn't sure where to put this and didn't want to necessarily start a new thread, so I'll put it here. Hutchins is claiming Dakich has kicked Bassett and Ellis off the team for missing team meetings. Hahahahahahaha...you've got to be fisting me. Just when I think it can't get any more dis-functional.
  13. No matter what your perception was of how Fukodome handled lefties in spring training (and I think it may be a bit flawed) there is NO WAY the Cubs are having Fukodome platoon with any one. He isn't talking about things that the Cubs would actually do. He's talking about things that they SHOULD do. And platooning Fukudome with Murton is not one of them. agreed, but keeping murton still would have been a good idea as insurance for Fukudome and Soriano seeing as both have a recent history of injuries. having said that, it wouldn't be a big deal to call Murton up if one of them does go down and, in the meantime, he'll get regular at-bats.
  14. Hmm...if only there was an example of a coach taking Xavier to the Elite Eight then jumping ship to a Big Ten program on probation, then playing for the National Championship three years later...yeah, must be a no-brainer. did that happen? Thad Matta
  15. if iu let's miller's buy-out stand in the way, i'm going to be pissed. i fully expect to be pissed. i think bennett's non-interest in the job should open the eyes of a lot of dillusional iu fans out there that think iu is still considered a "dream job" and that they have the pick of the litter when it comes to coaches. i'm looking at you, Kravitz and Hutchins.
  16. seriously, if alford gets the job i should probably be put on suicide watch.
  17. no to bruce pearl. it boggles my mind that so many iu fans want pearl. 1) to claim you want someone who is squeky clean and then mention pearl in the same breath is completely insane; 2) he plays pretty much the exact opposite brand of basketball that most iu fans claim to love.
  18. 1. Male or Female? Male 2. Have you always been a Cubs fan? Yes 3. Have you ever heard of the Curse before? Yes, unfortunately. 4. Do you believe that there is a Curse preventing the Cubs from going to the World Series? No 5. Do you believe that some fans use the Curse as an excuse for the Cubs loses? Yes 6. What reasons can you give to explain why the Cubs haven't had a World Series win in 100 years? The primarily reason is bad decision making by management, beit the GM or the Manager.
  19. good call. i almost suggested this earlier with the march madness thread getting derailed.
  20. If Pitino would leave Louisville for IU he should be given the job immediately without interviewing anybody else. I was at Kentucky when he came in and cleaned up a mess much worse than IU is facing in no time at all. Then he got Louisville back to an elite level, even though it may have taken a little longer than it took him at Kentucky. He's exactly the fix for a broken program. Problem with that is Indiana athletics can't afford Pitino. this. that's why i don't really get all the pearl, pitino, izzo, etc. talk. aside from those guys likely not wanting to leave their current situation to clean up the mess at iu, they cost more than iu is likely willing to spend, based on their recent history. i think the best hope is probably someone like bennett or sean miller.
  21. Just weighing in to say, if Murton is not going to make the team, I'd rather he get regular at-bats at Iowa than be traded for peanuts. I'd definitely prefer they go with 11 pitchers or send Fontenot down instead though.
  22. Yeah, I was in denial yesterday, but the more I think about it the more I think Murton is very likely on his way out. I'd still like to see them keep both, but I won't count on it.
  23. Let me say, I have interest in Johnson but not at the expense of Murton. Murton > Johnson. One of Fukudome or Soriano has to bite the bullet and play CF on occasion against a LHP if there isn't another alternative. If they can/will keep them both (Johnson and Murton), then I'm down.
