  1. Well, here's hoping Lee and Ramirez get a few up in the jet stream. They are due for some good fortune. If Lou is going to insist on keeping them in the 3-4 spot, they need to get hot asap.
  2. I don't usually get too hung up on batting order, but Soto hitting 8th right now is lunacy. It might be different if Lee and Ramirez were hitting, but this is absurd. I look forward to Lou's post game musings about how the media should "talk to the players" about the middle of the order coming up short lately. Cause, you know, he has no control over that.
  3. He wrote some articles for yahoo sports, I believe, that were pretty telling about how he might manage a team. I don't remember a lot of details about the articles now but I remember thinking he was nuts when I read them.
  4. Oh, man. Castro lines out with the runners on 1st and 2nd to end the game. They lost 5-4.
  5. Nothing is better than fuzzy baseball. Well, fuzzy would be better than nothing. I don't get WCIU, so it will be gameday updates for this guy.
  6. Ron is basically just there as a fan in the booth at this point. You obviously aren't looking to him for some sort of in-depth analysis or insightful color commentary. Pat is great and he and Ron have fun together and that's fine with me. I hope he's able to be in the booth if/when the Cubs ever win a championship.
  7. Yeah, I'm a little surprised this hasn't happened yet. Or at least some word about the Cubs looking at him.
  8. hahaha...WTF? I had some bedtime issues with my 3 year old during the bot of the 9th and missed this. Hill actually pinch-hit for Soto? Wow, I'm glad I didn't see that. Guess I didn't notice Hill catching for Marmol in the 10th either (though I was still distracted by my little girl). Didn't read a thing about it doing my usual paper-surfing for recaps this morning. Amazing, Lou.
  9. The pitchers the Brewers threw out there are horrible and should be knocked around, but it was definitely fun to see the Cubs get it done. Hopefully this sparks something. We'll see. The rotation has been incredible. There is no denying that.
  10. Oh. Huh, they had previously said Friday.
  11. I think he does. I think Lou will want to use his new toy immediately.
  12. And the high butt. Don't forget that.
  13. The obsession with the bullpen only two weeks into the season is maddening. Grabow isn't going to continue to have a 2+ WHIP and 15+ H/9 you psychos. Samardzija should be sent down for someone capable (Stevens?) and the remaining guys should get a chance to settle in. But instead let's move one of our best starters to the bullpen because of one bad game.
  14. It'll be 4 play-in games among the bottom 8 AQs. This is my only problem with this. The play-in games should be between the final at-large teams in.
  15. I'll be honest that I'm partially surprised that none of my fellow Cub fans in the office or whatever haven't come to me endorsing the move with some sillyness about Zambrano's 7+ ERA and Silva's sub 1 ERA thru two weeks as validation. These same people will not hesitate to hate Silva in three weeks after a few bad starts though. Many people love knee-jerk reactions like this. I wonder what Len/Bob actually think of the move out of curiousity. They really didn't express any opposition to the move during last night's broadcast (and spent a fair amount of time trying to rationalize it, IMO) but maybe they don't feel free to openly question Lou.
  16. Don't worry, they'll be plenty scared when they get a look at the contracts for those two.
  17. It actually leads to TT's other thread. Good stuff.
  18. I think Silva may have said it best himself: "Thank God for the three good starts."
  19. Nice post, CCP. I will say, Z needing to be stretched out again is the least of my concerns about this. It wouldn't be that big of a deal to call up another starter for one or two starts (or to piggy-back Zambrano) until he gets stretched out. I'm just simply very pessimistic about Silva's likelyhood to be even remotely as effective as Zambrano long-term (moreso than Gorzelanny). If the move is being done simply to strengthen the bullpen (as it's being spun), then there are plenty of other options that don't require you to likely weaken your rotation significantly.
  20. Couple of things: It's insane to do something like this without giving guys like Steven, Parker or Gaub a chance (as TT mentioned). Secondly, there's more to consider than Z's chances of success and value out of the pen. Even if you assume Z might not be that much less valuable as a high-leverage reliever, it's still going to weaken the starting rotation if you are essentially substituting Gorzelanny or Silva (however you want to look at it) for Zambrano as a starter every fifth day. I'm a actually a big fan of Gorzelanny, but he's extremely unlikely to be as good as Zambrano as a starter. Silva's career numbers speak for themselves. It's great that he's been so good early on, but it's (to use this phrase one more time) extemely unlikely to continue anywhere close to that level. Looking at their careers, Silva can't even carry Zambrano's jock strap. Is it possible this could work out? Yeah, I guess. But you aren't playing the percentages. It's far more likely to bomb.
  21. im very afraid that what happens after that occurs is going to be even worse than this. how are they going to sell "he sucked in the bullpen, time to go back to the rotation" after this whole thing is (in the minds of many) predicated on zambrano's lack of success in the rotation? exactly. and if z somehow dominates in a relief role, is lou going to send him back to the rotation, or think to himself "by golly i'm a genius, i should have moved z to the bullpen a lot sooner" and keep z in the bullpen all season? so basically, i'm saying either scenario it appears z may be a reliever all year. he would likely move back to the rotation once Silva or Gorzelanny bombs or if there's an injury. Otherwise, yeah...he's probably stuck there regardless of his performance in relief.
  22. uhhhh...seriously. might want to move him back to lead-off. against lefties if nothing else.
  23. It's not funny, Lou. I want to punch you.
  24. David Wright getting booed. Gotta love NY
