  1. If they split the big ten east-west like that IU won't win a conference football game for about the next five years. Well...they may not anyway.
  2. this appears to have gone under appreciated.
  3. With the all-star break approaching, I wouldn't be surprised to see increased speculation about Lou (or maybe even Hendry) if they don't start playing far better.
  4. From a purely # of pitches per start standpoint, Cubs starters this year are at 97 pitches/start (Dempster is up to 109). 2009: 97 2008: 96 2007: 95 Really not an increase at all in the number of pitches thrown per start as a team.
  5. Also, while I'm here: It's maybe been beaten to death at this point, but for God's sake let's at least get Theriot away from the top of the order. The guy isn't even hitting lefties at this point. If you insist on playing him*, at least put him down at the bottom of the order. *It's probably not realistic to outright bench him with Aramis on the DL and Baker being needed at 3B against LHP.
  6. Yes, but it seems that he's been "harder" on his starters this year than he has been in the past, no? It's certainly possible that I'm imagining this [insert the Fred Signal] but it seems starters are getting taxed a little more this year. I just remember wondering about Lou's starter use when he was hired (typically my primary concern with any manager) and feeling like he really hadn't really over-taxed his starters in his time with the Cubs coming into 2010. Early on this season may have been because the bullpen was struggling, but that excuse is gone now. Like I said, I may be off on this and haven't looked it up yet. That's the perception I'm getting though.
  7. He just got one yesterday, how much rest do you think he could use? I'd say something like 125-130 games
  8. Look, we need to start winning games, ok? What can I do? [growl; grumble; next question]
  9. Well, I guess they are at least half way there in Dent's little world then since they were pretty good last year too and made it to the WC finals.
  10. Like who? What about that guy that yelled out?
  11. I think they've basically been about even when the teams are even strength. Hell, Philly didn't get a shot for ten minutes. Dominated for 4 games? Sorry, I'll stop and let you vent. Did you watch the third period of game 3? (and the teams aren't always going to be at full strength, and our special teams are a big reason we're in trouble) 1. Yes, the special teams are absolute trash right now. There is no denying that at all and it's a big problem. 2. Did I watch the third period of game 3? Not that it matters, but of course. What does that have to do with this? They still clearly haven't been anything close to "dominated for 4 games". Sorry, I said I'd stop and let you guys vent.
  12. agreed. byfuglien is garbage right now.
  13. I think they've basically been about even when the teams are even strength. Hell, Philly didn't get a shot for ten minutes. Dominated for 4 games? Sorry, I'll stop and let you vent.
  14. I saw this thread bumped and wondered what Lou could have possibly done if they didn't even play last night. "How you go and get fired on your day off?!"
  15. Gozelanny doesn't get nearly enough credit. No way would I be looking to "sell high" on him. He's someone they should be inking into the rotation for the next few years. Considering what they're likely to get for him now, I wouldn't be looking to move him at all. Seems like SP is a place where the Cubs actually have a good chance of getting some relatively cheap production in the near future with Wells, Gorzelanny, Cashner and Jackson. I'd be fine trading Sliva or Lilly.
  16. 130, with a few starts at DH Why 11 less starts than he had in 08? I don't know if he actually started 141, just played. Some of those may have been simply p/h appearances. I didn't go thru and check the game logs.
  17. That's a perfectly reasonable question, but Geo sat or had off days on May 24, 26 (1PA), 29, today and will have another day off Thursday. Resting him more than a typical position player is fine, but this is a little much. For what it's worth, he played in 141 games in 2008.
  18. Let's just skip to the post game where Lou throws up his hands when the offense can't score again. "What can I do? Put players in situations where they are more likely to succeed? Play my drastically superior catcher? You tell me." There, I just saved everyone about three hours.
  19. This is amazing. Even the people at this thing don't care. They look like they wish they were dead instead of sitting thru this thing. I'd love to see the ratings on this thing. I'd bet an incredible amount of money it doesn't do as well as the hockey game would. I'm listening on WGN, but if anyone knows of someplace to see it on-line, I'd love to know.
  20. They bumped it their constant weather station, that I can't seem to get without an antenna. Holy God I am rabid with rage right now.
  21. I am absolutely [expletive] losing it right now. Somebody hook me up with an on-line feed. This is absolute madness. Burn in hell, WTHR. Burn in [expletive] hell.
  22. Okay, but he's Lou and that's not going to happen. Then replace the guy making the mistakes instead of (potentially) setting back one of your top prospects. I know, I know, it's not going to happen.
  23. I think the bullpen would be far better if Lou used the right guys. Russell has been great and Stevens has a good shot to be pretty solid.
