  1. The forums on Peegs are saying that White re-broke (is that right?) his foot and will miss the rest of the season. God, I hope this is some sort of sick cruel joke.
  2. Greenberg's status: young and left-handed. As in, Dusty's not even going to look up Greenberg's minor league splits to explore the possibility of using him as Jones' platoon partner. Seriously, Greenberg successfully cleared waivers, surprisingly, so he's still part of the organisation but no longer on the 40-man roster. If the Cubs want to use him now, they have to purchase his contract again. Finally, the next time that Greenberg's designated for assignment he has the right to opt to become a free agent. You know what? I completely spaced that he is left-handed. I don't know what I was thinking. Nevermind.
  3. You are not alone. This thread also seems bizarre to me but I'm not going "stick up" for IU in this thread because that would be "disrepecting" the Illini.
  4. If that's all you're going to get, you should keep them. That won't happen though. I think Corey is going to be somewhere between 3-4 million, no? I can't remember right now.
  5. What's Adam Greenburg's status? That also seems to be a better option the Grissom IMO.
  6. Yeah, I looked up the splits right after I posted that questions. Even so, Hairston's less then stellar numbers against LHP are probably better then what Grissom is going to provide. I'm still not convinced there is any conceivable reason that Grissom should make the team.
  7. I guess my question is this; What does Grissom provide that Hairston does not? Unless Hendry thinks Hairston is going to be starting at 2B, I don't really understand.
  8. A position to be successful is just an excuse to hold a guy out as often as possible. Dusty will screw this up, if it happens. If Grissom doesn't take away his time, then Mabry will. If Grissom is on this team, there will be way too many days when Jones and Grissom are on the field at the same time. I can't wait for the day-game after a night-game lineup that will include Neifi (SS), Mabry (3B) Jones (RF) and Grissom (LF) all at the same time. Kerry Wood will probably pitch seven shut-out innings and get a no-decision. Then people will complain that he can only get 14 wins.
  9. Neither Hairston or Mabry is close to being a "good enough" 4th OF. Except when compared to Grissom... I've gotta believe (or hope) that this isn't accurate.
  10. I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I think I'll do a little of both.
  11. Okay, so let's turn this discussion a bit (while sticking with the Murton theme). At what point is it acceptable to put Murton into a platoon? Example: If Shawn Green ended up on the team (yeah, yeah, NTC), would you platoon him with Murton? I think I'd personally platoon him with Jones in that scenario (Green plays RF the days Murton plays). I think I could accept that. What about Gonzo? It's a much bigger risk, IMO. He is really getting up there. I didn't realize until recently that he is 38 yrs old. Having Murton spell Gonzo and Jones on a regular basis might be a good idea (especially considering Gonzo's age). The whole Arizona thing is kind of in my head because of their plethora of OF. Of course, the biggest kicker in this whole scenario is I'd just assume have Green in RF and Murton in LF with Jones in a galaxy far, far away.
  12. I wouldn't advocate platooning him just for the sake of platooning him. I would say, however, if the Cubs picked up someone like Gonzo or Floyd, I'd be more then happy with him platooning. He will probably succeed, but he's not as much of a lock as someone like Floyd to put up really nice numbers. Now, if you're talking about making him a 4th OF behind people like Burnitz, Holla, Mabry etc. then that's different.
  13. I'll believe it when I see it. I remember hearing similar things about Dubois last year. Also of note, from what I've seen, Ronnie hasn't played a single inning at 2B this summer.
  14. It's cute that you not only think Cedeno will start over Neifi at SS if the Cubs got Soriano, but that he'd bat 2nd.
  15. Jones has a 3-year contract, but that doesn't mean he'll be with the Cubs for 3 years. Assuming Pie is ready next year, Jones should be a very tradeable commodity as a corner OF signed for $10 million over 2 years. Pie may also find himself in a platoon with Jones for a year or so.
  16. More news: Gonzo has indicated he would invoke his 10/5 rights unless he was given an extension for 2007. If that's the case, no. If it doesn't require an extension, I'd likely do it and platoon Murton with Jones in RF (Murton starting against all LHP). Pierre Walker Lee Ramirez Gonzo Jones/Murton Barrett Neifi/Cedeno
  17. I'm not sure about imminent, but it seems pretty certain that Hendry has offered Prior + (supposedly different packages) for Tejada + Bedard. Just the fact that Hendry has even offered I think warrants some of the critisism he is receiving in this thread. If Hendry knows something about Prior (injury or willingness to stay with the club, etc.) I might feel differently. As it stands now, this deal is bad IMO.
  18. One of the many unfortunate things about this, is that I have several friends who will think it's absolutely outstanding. sigh
  19. What??? The Cubs wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs (let alone made it to the LCS) with out Prior and Wood. FAILED?? Oh my God. Maybe I missed it. Did we make it the Series that year? Im glad we made it to the playoffs...and almost made the Series. That was 2003...and he's been less than dominating since. Oh my God..quit acting as if he's Superman. You're right. They haven't won a World Series for the Cubs (or even gotten to one). They should be traded. Also, Ramirez didn't get the Cubs there either. See ya! Probably should have had the same philosophy for the following: Banks, Jenkins, Santo, Sandberg, Dawson, Grace, Sosa...I mean, these guys never won (or even appeared in) a World Series, right? Bums!
  20. This whole thing just wouldn't make sense. Hendry has preached "catching the ball" and pitching depth this whole offseason. Why would he then turn around and trade Prior and Hill for Tejada? Tejada is not an improvement defensively over Neifi nor Cedeno and you've pretty much blown up your rotation. I still don't believe it.
  21. What??? The Cubs wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs (let alone made it to the LCS) with out Prior and Wood. FAILED?? Oh my God.
  22. People will forget about it. Elway did the same thing (to the Colts). Very rarely is that ever mentioned.
  23. Perhaps we'll see a Walker for Mench trade and Mench could platoon with Jones in RF. The only potential problem being that Murton gets benched in favor of Mench in LF. I'd prefer to keep Walker and go with E. Perez or Byrnes or someone like that, but Hendry seems determined to move Walker.
  24. Sadly, it's beginning to look more like it will be Cedeno/Perez or Perez/Cedeno. Well, Perez did save us from fifth place last year. Dude's earned it. Pierre Neifi Lee Jones Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno If Murton and/or Cedeno tank, you're looking at a 70 win season, IMO.
  25. I was talking offense. C - Barrett >>>>Miller 1B - Lee >>>>>>>>> Karros/Choi/Simon 2B - Walker > Grudz Grudz had a career year in 2003, and Walker has a comparable OBP and a lot more power) SS - Cedeno > KGon 3B - ARam >>> Bellhorn/Harris/2003 ARam LF - Murton < Alou (though Alou had an average year at best) CF - Pierre = Lofton RF - Jones << Sosa You remember the KGon-Miller black hole? Ugh. No more of that. We don't know what the 2006 bench will look like, and there are good bench bats out there to be taken. What makes the two of you think that Cedeno will be starting at SS AND Walker will still be here (and starting at 2B). I'd say the MI will be Perez/Walker or Cedeno/Perez.
