  1. Well, it's not a great trade, but probably not a terrible one either. Is it confirmed that Mitre is part of the deal? Cubs.com only had Nolasco and Pinto. I am assuming he isn't. In any case, it will be interesting to see what they do next. It appears that Kearns/Dunn are likely staying in Cinci now (I would guess). So that basically leaves Huff, Abreu, Bradley, Wilkerson and maybe Floyd as options for RF. I would have loved Bradley or Wilkerson for CF, but I'm not sure about RF if Pierre is in CF. I would take Bradley or Wilkerson if the Cubs kept Walker (which I doubt).
  2. Perhaps. Then again, we're also talking about a GM who thought that Furcal was worth $13 million a year. If the Dodgers turn out to be amenable to a straight CF swap I'd do it in a heartbeat. If they want something more, I'd even include a mid-range pitching prospect to get it done. (It's not like we don't have a dozen of them who are in danger of being lost for nothing in the Rule 5 draft or who are out of options.) I agree. I'd definitly throw in a mid-range prospect to make that deal happen. I just have to look at it the other way around. If we had Bradley, and the Dodger said, "Hey, we'll trade you this Corey Patterson fella who's coming off a solid .215, sub .300 OBP season for Milton Bradley. Don't worry, he's probably only going to make $3 million next year." I mean, I'd probably punch the guy in the face.
  3. I'd really be shocked if the Dodgers took Patterson straight up for Bradley. I just don't believe that would be the deal. The Cubs would have to include someone else.
  4. exactly. the price for kearns in no way inhibits Hendry from pulling off a blockbuster. I agree. If that original deal to get Kearns is true (who knows) then you aren't trading away a lot of high prized talent to get him. Worst case scenario, you have Murton and Kearns as your corner outfielders. That's not good, but it's better than what they have now (and at least has a chance to be productive).
  5. Do you really have to stop pursueing someone like Abreu or Floyd or whoever if you acquire Kearns? No way. Either A) Murton or Kearns is used to acquire other said OFer or; B) Either Kearns or Murton become your RH power off the bench.
  6. The more I look at Huff's steady decline over the last two years, the more apprehensive I become. I wonder if it's a change of scenery thing, or he is just losing it. I wouldn't be against acquiring him at the right price (player wise) but he isn't one of my top choices either. On one hand, he could get worse (or repeat 2005). On the other hand, he could rebound and you could be buying low for a change.
  7. for once, i'm glad i'm not at home to watch this. i would have to watch just purely for the baseball fix, but would hate every minute of it.
  8. I hate you (only because you are right). Also, I agree (as most have said all along), trading Walker is stupid from a baseball perspective. There must be some other reason for the Cubs wanting to get rid of him. I don't get it.
  9. Soriano is the exact opposite of what the Cubs need. How is it that many of us can see the need for someone to get on base ahead of Lee and Ramirez and Cubs management can't? In Lee and Ramirez they've got all the power they need, why in the world do they need power out of 2B? I think Hendry sees a need there, I just don't agree with the way he's seeking to fill it. Walker is an obvious option. Murton is a fall-back option. Bradley is an option. Wilkerson is an option. However, I don't think Hendry sees these guys as options. He wants speed (and OBP to go along with it would be nice). I think he'll get Pierre or Lugo.
  10. Thanks, Bruce. I'm glad to hear the Texas rumors appear false (or at least slim). I have no interest in Mench and minimal (at best) interest in Soriano. I'm especially not interested in trading Wood and/or Walker for either one of them (or Zito).
  11. \ I agree but, when one considers Baker is the manager, despite the presence of very good SS prospect, getting an established SS makes sense. How pitiful is it that Hendry has to somehow dumb down the team to save Baker from himself? Very pitiful. However, if Hendry trades Walker (seems likely) and doesn't get a 2B via trade, that basically puts Neifi at 2B and Cedeno at SS. Then Dusty's precious little Neifi can still get way too many ABs (probably batting 1st or 2nd). Also, if they pick up a SS (Lugo or whoever) Neifi will still get to play 2B. Getting a SS in no way removes Neifi from the lineup IMO. Focus on OF.
  12. I hope that list is not in order of priority. I don't understand the need to "focus" on SS at all. Maybe he should "focus" on the one position where the Cubs currently have zero options in house, RF (unless you count Mabry). :headache:
  13. I'll predict Pierre, Soriano and Mench are all Cubs by week's end. Yuck.
  14. If they're grown men, I'm sure they can take it and not get all sensitive. So while we're disregarding people, we'll just call everyone who they feel applies whiny, stupid, arrogant, etc. Oh well, at least we'll finally be able to call out [you] for being a jerk all the time. finally! :?: I'm confused Edit: I should really read the entire thread before posting.
  15. I can live with Wilkerson if the Cubs also acquire someone like Bradley (as opposed to Pierre). If you are taking moderate to low production in RF (relatively speaking) you are going to need above average production in CF (which Bradley provides). The only drawback being that the Cubs are then without a lead-off hitter unless the get Lugo at SS (I don't believe for one second that Dusty would have Wilkerson lead-off). I don't know that all three of those trades can be made, but it would probably leave you with: Lugo SS Bradley CF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Wilkerson RF Barrett C Murton LF Perez/Cedeno 2B I expect more from a 100+ million dollar payroll team, but I guess it's not bad. I'd also be interested in pursueing Floyd to play RF instead of Wilkerson.
  16. believe it or not, lots of people think neifi is good. Agreed. Unfortunately, I have several friends who think Neifi is good and were glad to see him return INSTEAD of Nomar (If they had to choose between the two).
  17. I came into this offseason with a great fear that would happen. It seems to be getting a little more likely with each passing day. Now add in a fear of Mabry in LF. :pukel: Wow Cacique...what a horrible 1000th post! Hahah...I just noticed that after I posted. I don't know if I should laugh or cry :(

  19. I'm interested to see how the Furcal signing is going to affect LA's infield. My assumption is Kent moves to 1B and Izturis to 2B. I'm guessing that pretty much kills a Bradley for Walker deal, unless LA feels Izturis can be a utility man, or won't be ready to start the year. I'd be pretty interested in seeing what it would take to get both Lugo and Huff from TB and then get Bradley via trade or signing if he's non-tendered. Lugo Bradley Lee Ramirez Huff Barret Murton Cedeno/Neifi It will take either Barrett, Murton or Huff to emerge with some power to hit in that 6th spot. I think at least one of them will be capable. That lineup would likely fall somewhere between average and very good if Huff bounces back and Murton is for real. Both are gambles, but not bad ones, IMO.
  20. I'd keep Soriano and try to move Mench for a LH bat. (Floyd, package for Abreu) Why do the Cubs seem to be targeting exactly the kind of players they don't need? If that deal is made, I'm going to freak out. If rumors are true that the Cubs want a LH bat badly for RF, they can move Mench for one. Soriano isn't the type of player they need, but accompanying a move for top of the order hitters he would be a productive addition that will help the lineup. Sure, Soriano isn't a bad option in the right spot in the order. However, you're talking about giving up pretty much the only top of the order hitter the Cubs have right now (Walker) and replacing him with a guy who should not even sniff the top of the order. Not to mention, you are almost garanteeing (I can't spell) Neifi a starting spot at either SS or 2B. I'll give you one guess where he'll be hitting.

  22. Welcome to the forum! I must say, though, your line-up doesn't sound very realistic to me. The only unrealistic thing about that lineup is that Dusty will never put Murton in the 2-hole. You can pencel Neifi in there.
  23. Did you mean Blanco or am I missing something? HA! Yeah, I meant Hank White. Oops.
  24. I'd rather go with Castillo only and get Bradley for CF. Of course, I guess you could always put Pierre in CF and Bradley in RF. Not a very powerful OF, but one that could probably get on base pretty well.
