  1. 4.6 fWar in 208 games so far. he's good. Congrats to Yoenis for having a good rookie season, considering most of that was earned in 2012. He's now 27, can't get on base, is really a corner OF rather than a CF and is a free agent after two more seasons. I don't care about him at all. Well, maybe a little, but not much.
  2. Is Olt's defense considered really strong, or am I not remembering that correctly?
  3. luke jackson PROS throws hard, strikes out lots of guys CONS walks lots of guys, suffers from early 2010s white man tool hair/hat malady mike olt PROS looks like a power hitting third baseman, used to hit like a power hitting third baseman CONS currently hits like [expletive] neil ramirez PROS currently striking out everyone in aa CONS is 24 in aa, is in aa because last year he was sort of a disaster at aaa, first name won out over last name and therefore is white ON THE WHOLE this would be okay i guess because i really don't think we are considering re-signing garza at all, but it would be nice if there was one prospect here without an "uhhh, this will need to change completely for him to be a real major leaguer" red flag attached. That doesn't look too exciting to me. I was hoping we could get a real "top" prospect and a couple of "interesting" prospects. The good news is that you can still hope for that, as no trade has been done. But I think you're the poster who doesn't like anything the Cubs do, so there is a good chance you won't like whatever trade is pulled off. My apologies if you aren't the poster that doesn't like anything the Cubs do.
  4. This really doesn't have much to do with what you guys are talking about, but I'd like to point out again that Yoenis Céspedes is not really that good and I really don't care that we missed out on him.
  5. Thank God we didn't move Castro to left field to start the inning.
  6. Focus then on Rizzo having 15 more doubles. And, no, I'll continue to say Rizzo has not been disappointing. He's been real solid. Okay, well he can be both solid (which I agree he has been), and disappointing. He is on pace for a little under a 3 WAR, which is solid (like you said), but my expectations for him were a good bit higher, so I am pretty disappointed. He also is playing at a lower WAR pace than last season. So again, regression = disappointment. I was looking for a 4+ win season, not a 2.7 win season. I am encouraged by his increased walk rate and the fact that his Ks are near what they were at last year. I don't like that his LD% has gone down a lot, so has his HR/FB (though he is hitting more FB in general). His BABIP is lower than it should be, so hopefully his numbers start to naturally go back up, but I still think that his season has been disappointing so far when considering everything. Here's to hoping he has a big second half and eliminates the concern. Quality stuff. I guess I entered the season coming at it a bit differently. I wasn't expecting huge numbers, but rather I just wanted to see a guy who clearly can be a fixture at his position for us in the future. Now, as he fully matures and develops I believe he can turn into a legitimate star. For his (mostly) age 23 season, the fact that he has 13 homers, 27 doubles and two triples and that he's shown an ability to take walks and play solid defense leaves me far more encouraged than disappointed. Heck, there are some big-time stars who weren't even in the Majors at this point in their career. But, like you, here's hoping for an even bigger final 70 games.
  7. Other than ruining a few too many postgame interviews, I'm really going to miss Garza.
  8. Why? It was a ground ball right at him that he didn't make a play on. That's a pretty easy E5 call. Balls hit that hard generally seem to be scored as hits. Yup. That was a hit. No doubt. It's annoying the crap out of me still.
  9. No. Got hit with a 72 mph pitch. And he's fine.
  10. Focus then on Rizzo having 15 more doubles. And, no, I'll continue to say Rizzo has not been disappointing. He's been real solid.
  11. I know this is probably stupid, but I'd pull Garza now. He has qualified for his win, he has been strong yet again. I don't think the prospects we get back are going to be any different should he pitch two more quality innings. If this is our big trade chip, no use in taking any chances that he somehow tweaks something.
  12. I'm of course bias, but come on, that should have been a hit. I don't think Freese even had time to get his glove in the proper position before it hit him in the knee due to how hard it was struck.
  13. That seems contradictory to what Theo and Jed have spoken openly about in the past. That is incredibly depressing if true. That had to be written or reported incorrectly. Right?
  14. He's also 11th in WAR for first baseman. To me, he's been much better than just average this season.
  15. Am I the only one around here who doesn't have a problem with Rizzo's production this year? He has been prone to getting into cold streaks, yes, but even during those times he finds a way to get on base with walks. I'm fine with 13 home runs and 26 doubles (which lead all first baseman in baseball) at this point and feel he's doing fine given his age and first full year in the big leagues.
  16. It's all it is. I'd be shocked if the boys didn't trade Garza. If they really want him back, they have a chance in the offseason. Yes, it would be a risk because Garza might fall in love with his new team, but I have a hard time believing that with what we have been doing, that they'd extend Garza instead of getting more prospects for him. Now, there is a chance we don't trade him, tender him and get a pick, but to ink him to an extension seems very, very unlikely. We can trade him to Cleveland to avoid that happening. Hahahahahaha. Nice.
  17. Wait, what? Navarro? What exactly does he have to do with this? I believe there was a mention somewhere in media land that Navarro and Garza have been working great during his past four starts and that they might be a nice package deal for a team.

  19. Yeah. I can't imagine that's really going to fool anybody. My only concern is it might mean the offers haven't been too great for him.
  20. Didn't we just pick Henry off of waivers from Washington? In case you aren't joking, Dickson was traded for Rodriguez last month. Doh. I couldn't remember and wasn't about to actually look it up. My bad on that one. It's OK. We all whiff sometimes. Just last week I asked if we could get Profar for Garza.

  22. That story read like Jon Heyman was doing a favor for Boras in exchange for a tip or two at some point in the future.
  23. I read recently in a column by Randy Galloway that a lot of scouts no longer think Profar is a superstar and that his upside is that of a good player rather than an elite one. If Garza really is the crown jewel of the trading deadline, I don't think it's crazy to think Profar could be traded for him provided that's the true thinking on him. http://www.star-telegram.com/2013/06/21/4953944/major-league-exposure-has-hurt.html
  24. No. If you get time, could you expand on this further? No, as in Profar can't be the piece coming back because the Rangers wouldn't give him up? Or no that we need pitching more so it wouldn't be him?
