  1. Bottom line: I find it funny in a series that we just got dominated in on offense, defense and pitching that people are bitching about not picking up a single starter at the deadline as if that is the glaring issue in this series. Everything has been as issue, including the three starters that would have still pitched in this series. Welp. I'll admit I'll never be able to win that argument. Of course maybe if we get David Price we somehow miss the playoffs all together. So in that case, great move not getting one. I mean, sure, maybe that happens. In all likelihood, we still make the playoffs, probably. You can't say that the playoffs would have unfolded the same way, though. Chaos theory is tricky business.
  2. Yea, because one [expletive] pitcher would have turned this whole series around. that makes no sense No it really does. We'd be mostly getting our asses kicked even with CY Young on the staff this series. Your bitching because we didn't get a pitcher at the deadline when literally every facet of the Cubs' game has gone to hell in this series. I'm being totally serious when I say that us acquiring a pitcher at the deadline would have made the rest of the season and the playoffs unfold differently. Created another timeline, in a sense. You can't say everything would have been the same besides us having a better starter in the playoffs. Welp. I'll admit I'll never be able to win that argument. Of course maybe if we get David Price we somehow miss the playoffs all together. So in that case, great move not getting one.
  3. Yea, because one [expletive] pitcher would have turned this whole series around. It wouldn't have hurt? But that complaint went out the window when every single SP acquired except Happ and Price were not good. We were in talks for Ross but SD wanted the moon for him Right. Maybe having a top-end pitcher last night leads to that top-end pitcher pitching top-end. Maybe not; but that certainly could have changed the series (and obviously then Hammel would not have started). Yeah. That's a lot of maybes. Or maybe we just still get our ass kicked.

  6. Whether the Cubs win the series or not, let's hope for a few more games. It will help pay for more international prospects along with the first million of the contract we give David Price.
  7. It's OK. The Cubs could win the World Series and a month would go by, and you'd realize life is pretty much the same. Am I right?
  8. I'm the loser on the board who hasn't been upset at all. I mean, when the season first started I thought we'd be over .500 and be in contention for the playoffs until August before falling out. That we got to the NLCS was well beyond what I really even thought about. I would have loved to have gotten to the Series this season because they were so close and it sucks to wait another year to try it again, but it's just hard for me to be angry. No promises to get back to this point in the next four or five years, but at the same time, I feel really good that we will be.
  9. Not objectively, but they're weaker than any of the other 4 teams that made the NL playoffs, and it's not close. Yes, but really no. There is no question that by the time the postseason hit, the Cardinals were the worst team in the NL bracket.
  10. Is the answer Dwight Smith for 109 games in 1989?
  11. Cubs are scoring at least four runs this inning. Who of you are with me?
  12. Me neither. I remember giving up like 40 hits to them at Wrigley but can't recall being in Detroit.
  13. I wonder if the friends of any of those fans in the 10th deck there got to see them on TV.
  14. Please somehow have ABC buy the rights to game 2.
  15. Why do they have a studio basketball host doing play by play?
  16. When the going gets tough, the pansies get tossed. Or leave their ill wife.
  17. Was really hoping this thread never got bumped up.
  18. Late to the convo, but I'm confused by the whole narrative about how this game could be at home had the Cubs started off with Bryant on the roster. What would you choose? A: Cubs host Wild Card game. B: Cubs make Wild Card game, retain Bryant for an extra year. If anything, the decision looks even better. And if you're going to go with the narrative, why not focus on the possibility the Cubs could have won the division?
  19. Meh he's been red hot the better part of 2 months. Been struggling a little the last week but I'm sure he will come through when it counts He's also probably pressing a bit because, as much as it doesn't matter to people, he probably really wants the 100 RBIs.
  20. Great job by Javy to not assume just a single there.
  21. Jake Arrieta, Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, Joe Maddon's player usage, the organizational philosophy of elite hitting and pitching from every possible source. Excellent. Thanks.
  22. I've always been more negative than the average fan, yes. That's a good thing. Edit: If you go back to like 2002 I went by IvyEmpire and was convinced that we were going to be awesome forever thanks to Jim Hendry's farm system. OK. Cool. It just seems like nothing is ever good in your eyes and you can't enjoy or have fun. But I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to my team, so I have issues as well. Well, that's just silly. Of course I have fun. And I'm positive on plenty of things. They just tend to provoke less discussion than the negative ones. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, because I'm really curious: can you name five things you like about this team? It would actually make me feel good for some reason.

  24. Was just reading some threads and was looking for some historical context. Has Hairy Ducked ever been happy with the Cubs or is he always sort of negative with outlooks of players, etc.?
  25. Yep. No team has ever done that before. Plus, like, wouldn't the Cubs winning the World Series after more than 100 years make a pretty incredible story any way?
