  1. Today I learned from a poster on here that Scott Boras is Chapman's agent. If true, any source that claims any team is 100 percent sure that a guy will resign is a complete crap source.
  2. I'm genuinely feeling shitty about myself that him being an abuser doesn't bother me much. Like if I knew this guy in my personal life, there is no way I'd be friends with him and I would despise him. But I don't know him and he just happens to play for a baseball team I root for, and for some reason I just don't feel the same. And that is really shitty of me. It makes no sense that I feel two different ways.
  3. Yeah. With like a billion dollars coming off the books if he was going to sign for 4/60 he'd be a Yankee. He probably still will be but just for more years and perhaps AAV. You said this last night too...wondering why you're so sure he'd rather be a Yankee than a Cub at equal salaries. Because he seems happy and has at least been quoted as saying he would be down with returning next season even if he got traded. No reason not to stay with what you know if you're happy and the money is the same.
  4. Yeah. With like a billion dollars coming off the books if he was going to sign for 4/60 he'd be a Yankee. He probably still will be but just for more years and perhaps AAV.
  5. it's so weird to me hwo a guy like this ends up in a trade at all (like, "we'll only do this trade if you throw in 23 year old mediocre A baller RASHAD CRAWFORD), but then i guess i probably would've thought the same about josh donaldson 8 years ago. I mean, at least Donaldson was like a first round pick. Although maybe Crawford was, too. I don't even know who he is.
  6. Yanks perhaps going back to original plan and asking for Schwarbs because it now doesn't look as bad to some.
  7. i really think the 4-for-1 is assuming extension, and if that can't be reached it'll look more palatable from our end i'm not sweating it, but i'll be fairly surprised if it plays out differently There isn't going to be an extension. And odds are in indeed that it will be 4-1.
  8. Or somebody gets Davis or Miller and we are all like, why the horsefeathers did we pay that much when all we had to add was Candy Man to get Miller?
  9. Trade a guy who has actually proven he can be dominant at the highest level or trade two minor leaguers who may never play in the majors and a swing man? Let me think and get back to you.
  10. I'd feel better had Theo signed an extension already. Hahahaha?
  11. The good news on no extension is that we can CC Sabathia him all we want. Pitch him two innings. Maybe three. Pitch him three straight days. Do whatever you horsefeathering want.
  12. I am, only because Theo is a crapshoot believer and this goes so against everything crapshooters believe in. you seem to be thinking of it as a straight up coin flip where talent doesn't matter at all, just luck. it's true that playoff series do not always end with the "best" team winning or team with the best record, but your odds of winning any game increase when you better the talent you have. you add talent to better your record from year to year, you add talent to improve your chances of winning in the playoffs. it's not rocket surgery. That's what I thought as late as last year and many on this board converted me. Again, many smart people on here have said you could add four great players and it doesn't increase the odds much. I suck at math so I just take their word for it.
  13. are you still trying to figure out why we would want to trade for an elite relief pitcher??? I am, only because Theo is a crapshoot believer and this goes so against everything crapshooters believe in.
  14. I don't know. Maybe Theo thinks he still needs to do moves to make sure we actually wrap up the division and isn't just assuming anything despite the 94 percent odds. Maybe he values getting the top seed and the chance to play the Wild Card winner without their ace for Game 1. And he probably figured he'd rather have the close innings of a playoff game go more in our favor should a certain series happen to play out like that. It's all I got.
  15. Bless you, and you are right that that's the best we can hope for, but there is not going to be an extension. It never made sense to begin with from Chap's perspective. No 28-year-old at the top of his game is going to sign for market value and only for four years when they are two months away from being able to pick where they want to live and what team they want to play for.
  16. Yeah we are pretty much down to just having to trust Theo at this point. Because this tends to go away from his and others belief that the playoffs are a total crapshoot. Tim tried to come up with a solid arguement that maybe Theo thinks the 1 to 2 percent increase in winning it all is more than Torres would ever bring, but it still seems odd.
  17. Or that the Cubs don't want to pay all $5 million of his contract.
  18. If you broke this up into a series of tweets I bet it might get some retweets.
  19. Hahahahahaha. I love how the first round pick thing still comes up.
  20. Plus, technically, Russell could always leave as a free agent (Boras)in six seasons and we have maybe four years of control on Torres at that point, who then moves to SS after being an everywhere guy his first two seasons. We're talking about what *could* happen in SIX seasons, when we're likely making our bullpen the best in the NL in a season where we have a real chance at our first World Series victory in over 100 years? I just can't go there. Yeah, that was more just an example of how Torres isn't necessarily blocked here forever. Like some others, I don't even mind trading him and endorse it. I just thought he'd be the centerpiece for a guy with years of control rather than months.
  21. Yeah it felt like that extension [expletive] went out the window hours ago.
  22. it's not about not trading torres ever. it's about getting more for torres. Plus, technically, Russell could always leave as a free agent (Boras)in six seasons and we have maybe four years of control on Torres at that point, who then moves to SS after being an everywhere guy his first two seasons.
  23. but......If you subscribe to the theory of crapshoot, there aren't case by case basis. If you take each one case by case you don't really believe in the theory. Or am I wrong? They could think that one portion of the game influences the odds more than others and still believe it is a crap shoot overall. Or that improving their odds by some margin in this year's crapshoot weighs more heavily than the future value of whatever prospects they are giving up. There are other variants out there that would allow for both the belief that the playoffs are a crapshoot and that the deal makes sense. This is what I would have believed last year. But I thought I finally grasped that it's all a crapshoot and it doesn't matter who you add. Like people here have said you could add Chapman, Miller and Jose Fernandez and still have an 80 percent chance of losing. Oh well. I'll admit I'm an idiot. I'll be happy landing Chapman and not worry about it.
  24. Right. I think if a team thinks they are going to be in the playoffs and they believe the playoffs are a crapshoot no matter how many good players they add, that they won't trade their top prospects for any of them. case by case basis. this would help solve a glaring weakness, this isn't going from castro to russell and expecting it to win you a short series. but......If you subscribe to the theory of crapshoot, there aren't case by case basis. If you take each one case by case you don't really believe in the theory. Or am I wrong?
