    Yeah. That's how I am, too. It's a lock that people cheer for athletes every day not realizing that some of them are douches, cheaters, drug abusers, possibly killers. horsefeathers man. I don't even really know what Chapman did or did not do. Florida never even charged him with a crime.

    Am I correct that Chapman has never admitted to actually touching his girlfriend but only shooting a gun eight times? And that he wasn't charged? Just trying to get my facts straight.

    From Chapman's view, do you really give up the chance at free agency to sign what would be like a reasonable deal? I suppose with some of the baggage, but I don't think teams care enough to not offer him a ton of money after the season.

    In a lot of the deadline deals we have been talking about, I've been looking at it more from a playoff perspective, i.e. getting Chapman really is two weeks rather than two months in terms of a rental. But at what point, if at all, do we start to think that maybe we also could use guys to make sure we actually win the division? Or is that still a lock?

    TT what would you feel is a fair trade that would make you happy? What are some examples of realistic hypotheticals that would leave you bummed? ETA: Also, does Chapman bump Rondon to set-up? Any feelings on how that will impact Hector/Cubs? He for sure bumps him to set up, and Rondon said the other day that he doesn't give a horsefeathers. At least publicly.

    i think that's more a byproduct of them being smart enough to generally go with the shotgun/numbers approach and gamble on a lot of guys rather than investing disproportionately and ill-advisedly in "surer" things. there's gonna be some mottes, sorianos, etc. when they do that but, as you allude to, it hasn't really hurt us. it's even easier to do that when you have a couple of guys like rondon and strop (who were originally acquired by pretty much that same philosophy) at the top. Yup. And Rodney and Cahill worked last year, too.

    While I have a feeling that Chapman will soon be a Cub, there is no horsefeathering way that is true.

    You'd be bummed about Torres, right? I do think it's going to take that. If not any of Happ, Torres, Eloy then get it done. I'll deal with my dirty feelings. I wouldn't be all that bummed about Torres but I don't know if it will take that. I'm not huge on Torres, both because of what he profiles as and our need. I see him purely as trade ammo. I'd hope/think his standing could get us more than a rental reliever (a really damn good one but also with huge baggage), but maybe he can't. If they can deal him as the centerpiece of a package for one of those starters with team control they're looking for, that'd be great. I just really have no idea how the market values him. I feel like it almost will have to take a guy like Torres. Enough teams want Chapman and the Yankees at least have to get something as good as a first round pick since they would tender him even if they can't resign him. They won't get Joe Ross, but a teenager in A ball seems like a possibility. I don't even care about Torres that much either. I, too, just assume he could bring back more than a rental, but maybe not. I mean, the kid may never even play above Triple A for all I know.

    It would be funny to get Chapman for even Torres and laugh at the handful of experts who thought they should give up Schwarbs for him.

    I feel dirty that I find myself excited about having Chapman. For sure judge me. yeah...i think TT has mentioned before that he's a "name on the front" guy and would eventually be ok with it. i'm kinda in the same boat. he's probably (almost certainly?) a huge scumbag but he's also really [expletive] good and should come relatively cheap. before i didn't want him, but being able to replace our worst bullpen arm with him would be a noticeable upgrade (and i'm saying this on the assumption that he won't cost us anything we'll be too bummed over). You'd be bummed about Torres, right? I do think it's going to take that. If not any of Happ, Torres, Eloy then get it done. I'll deal with my dirty feelings.

    If they love Gleybar then they better be prepared to trade Andrew Miller because 2 months of Chapman isn't enough. I'm sort of scared that the Cubs might be willing to do that. I mean, if they really want Chapman it probably is going to take more than the Candy Man's of our system.
