  1. This will probably end up making me look stupid, but I feel better with Carl as the 7th inning guy anyway.
  2. Every time Addy gets his average near or at .250, it always seems to go down 10 or 15 points. Not that it matters much.
  3. Good point. That said do the people who buy into his defense even think it's this valuable, or do they think that only provided he's at least average at the plate? The value of his defense is independent of his value at the plate. His runs saved on defense are what they are, whether he sucks at the plate or not. He can also lose you runs at the plate (which he no doubt has this year), which is why he isn't that same 5ish win player this year. Makes sense. Thanks.
  4. Here is another question. Say in a fake world that teams knew Heyward would be this same exact player next season. Does everyone sign him for one year and $15 million based on the way he got his WAR? I assume yes since WAR is WAR but it's so weird. Does everyone sign him for that if they know this is how he produces? Well, for one, lots of teams don't buy into his defense being as valuable as the numbers say it is. That's why he wasn't as sought after as you'd expect a 26 year old 5+ win player to be. If most of the market believed he was as good as the numbers say, he would've gotten like $30+M a year for 10 years or something. That's why the Cubs got such a good deal on him. Good point. That said do the people who buy into his defense even think it's this valuable, or do they think that only provided he's at least average at the plate?
  5. Numbers for $ per FA WAR have hit as high as $9-10 million in recent years. Here is another question. Say in a fake world that teams knew Heyward would be this same exact player next season. Does everyone sign him for one year and $15 million based on the way he got his WAR? I assume yes since WAR is WAR but it's so weird.
  6. also $15M isn't a lot for a baseball player Very true, but I still think they look different than this.
  7. I love J-Hey, but I get really confused at how his overall numbers translate to him being worth 15 million this season. The defense is glorious but there is no way I'm watching a guy that people would give $15 million to. But I know the way things are calculated proves me wrong.
  8. He will end up back in Milwaukee.
  9. So when, if at all, do the Cubs go to a six-man rotation with a guy like Montgomery?
  10. Do they have a band playing during the game?
  11. The interesting thing about this is that it seems like his teammates like him.
  12. Was the color commentator actually acting like it could have gone either way?
  13. I thought he was just giving Garbage McTrashcan behind the plate a chance to call it a strike. Pretty sure he was wondering who the new teammate was who drew the walk.
  14. Third walk-off this year but first without going to extras. I like these even more.
  15. Great job by Maddon to pinch hit Scissors when the natural move for some might have been Addy.
  16. Human element of this game can really shift stuff.
  17. No worries. Only down by one in those. This team thrives being down two.
  18. I don't get this crusade. You already have said you think Maddon is one of the best managers in the game. Just pointing out the facts...the ones soaking their tampons over my doing so are the ones on the "crusade"... Just slapping them around a bit after their misguided initial attacks. I mean, I get that I suppose. But are you on here breaking down all the times he makes good calls? It just seems like it would be a never ending project. For me, Good and/or decent managers over the course of a season just don't play that much a part in wins and losses with their choices during games. Their value comes in managing the clubhouse, egos, effort, and giving proper rest, etc. Maddon is one of the best at it, which makes him a guy that seems weird to bash so much.
  19. Careful...the ass licking society might get upset by this lack of "logic and reason" I don't get this crusade. You already have said you think Maddon is one of the best managers in the game.
  20. Just such a poor time to be conservative. I get not wanting to make two outs, but you automatically are giving up one and you are taking pressure off a struggling pitcher while also taking the bat out of the hands of a pretty good hitter......then asking a rookie and a struggling vet to play hero.
  21. Lost in Willy not getting two is that he failed to get one.
  22. Great job executing but that seems like a really scared way to play in this instance.
