You can't figure out why they were hoping to get the staff some extra rest? And also figure out if they had no back-up option, or if they had this guy in Iowa that maybe sorta could fill in if need be. It might be worth giving Montgomery a try despite the rough start.

Bingo. This guy sucks no doubt about it but to have this start reflect on the current state of the staff is kind of a reach. I think they are saying this is what we will see if we don't buy insurance and somebody gets hurt or really crappy.

This guy isn't good but he's at least better at throwing to first than some All-Stars.

What's good is that he needed 28 pitches despite the Cubs not making much contact at all. What's bad is that the Cubs didn't make much contact at all.

All I ask is that he makes the rest of the game worth watching by the time this half inning is over.
