  1. There is ZERO chance of signing Darvish. If you want Harper later, you can't have Darvish now. Why? What’s the thinking here? We could add Darvish with staying under the LT this year. The thinking is that they are not looking to break the bank on a huge signing like that this season, provided Darvish takes six years and $25 to $30 AAV. I find it very unlikely they are going to go into 2019 with Harper at $35 to $40 Lester at $27, Darvish at $25, Heyward at $20, Zobrist at $16.5, etc.

  3. With every decent reliever and some mediocre ones getting an AAV of at least $7 million this offseason, great job by the Cubs signing Strop to that contract that pays him $5.85 mil this season and has an option for $6.25 mil next season.
  4. I expect that they are pursuing multiple paths simultaneously. Whichever one pops first at a price they like wins. Agreed, although I don't think Darvish is on any of their paths. Cobb or trade.
  5. I’m still embarrassed by some of my regular season predictions to say this, but I want very little to do with Stanton at that money and those years. I know we are going to be hopefully printing money in a few years, but there are still only a certain amount of $20 million plus guys on a payroll. I’d rather save the space for a chance at Harper, even though it’s just a chance.
  6. Interesting. I actually don't think the other guy is going to be Ohtani or a guy we trade for. I still think it will be Cobb, unless somehow his price has gotten up to $18 to $20 million per.
  7. Was just about to post that. That...........is encouraging.
  8. Not necessarily. Multiple rotation spots to fill.
  9. His millions in endorsements, etc. should be just fine.
  10. Just sign Ichiro to a one-year, $800,000 deal instead.
  11. Either way, its a very lackluster off season, in my mind. The main point was, what if that IS our off season? Its not beyond the realm of possibility, with no trades and looking towards the 2018 class. I'd be okay with it, tbh. I'd make some different choices after Cobb, but I think that still puts us as favorites in the division. I'm sure they'd make some additions at mid-season. It really, really makes me wish we had moved on Verlander, though. Regarding Verlander, I already don't remember: Did we not make a move for him, or did we not have any sort of prospects to get him?
  12. At least with Heyward over all these other bad contracts of broken down and/or older players, he still provides elite production in nine of the 18 half innings of a game. Plus he seems to check off all the other boxes. Hard worker. Good teammate. isn't going to be distraction or a clubhouse divider when he doesn't get to play, etc.
  13. Pretty sure he has a full no-trade clause through next season and then a partial one. So he will have a lot of say on this.
  14. I'd think Alex Cobb would be the most likely in this scenario.
  15. I'd encourage you to keep posting. I like reading different viewpoints. People can be tough on here, but just keep being you.
  16. he has two years beyond this year and would be really nice to have. i rescind your pass. he had a vesting option for 2020 which was based on finishing high in the cy race which he had waived in order to approve the trade. Plus the Tigers are paying $8 million each year, so Houston is only on the hook for 2 years and $40 million. That said, I'm sure the Astros offer was more attractive than anything the Cubs realistically could have put together, but I don't actually know that.
  17. You'd also have to think this gives us a better chance to get Brett Anderson back via free agency.
  18. I'd hire Otani's pitching coach and call it a day.
  19. It was all downhill after he couldn't fix Eddie Butler.
  20. I only followed the game thread. Not game cast. Not TV. Not Twitter. Let me tell you, it was an experience like no other.
  21. I’m not nervous because I genuinely feel they are better and will win, just like last playoffs. I’m not, not nervous because of the feeling “we won last year and if they don’t win they don’t win we have 2016.” That’s ninny thoughts. I want a mother horsefeathering dynasty I'm for sure a ninny, but I don't know if those are ninny thoughts or not. Whatever they are, i just have no nerves or anxiety. I was on edge this time last year all through what felt like three months of playoffs. I guess I'm cool with them winning the World Series and then not falling flat on their faces this season and making the playoffs. And because the playoffs are a crap shoot, I have this feeling we are playing with house money and it's all fun no matter what.
  22. Is anybody else not feeling nervous at all? I feel like it was just yesterday that we won the World Series. I would like to win it again, but there is no anxiety like I had going into the playoffs last season. If they don't win, they don't win.
  23. What was your reasoning? Makes it easier for the Diamondbacks to win and they have a better chance to beat the Dodgers? Or just wanted another playoff type game to watch?
  24. I didn't like the idea of trading a position player with his talent/minor league track record and the control he had left for an injured closer on one year, but it obviously turned out extreme best case. I felt the same way for the same reasons, but qualified liking it if they liked the medicals. Basically when the FO makes a move going forward I trust they have a solid foundation of facts and info for making a decision. To be fair to both of you, I brought it up because it was the only thing I nailed right this season.
