  1. anyone else figure bradley goes in for precautionary xrays after the game and goes on the DL?
  2. What a giant load of crap. Like those previous guys were anything special? They're freaking baseball players that put up good numbers. The vast majority were probably unethical jerks and complete morons. I never said that. I was just pointing that I have no control over the players already in there. Just the ones from my generation. I would have no problem booting the old guys out as long as the integrity clause is still valid. It's just going to be laughable if the PED guys ever get in to watch them get on stage and deliver their little speech.
  3. This argument I can respect. This argument goes right back to what everyone is saying. Doctoring a ball with such regularity that it's your calling card isn't cheating in a blatant way? The whole "goes against everything I was taught growing up" is shlocky crap. You were probably taught not to fool around behind your wife's back growing up too. Better clear a few 100 plaques out of the HOF for that. If we only honored players who do the right thing, the HOF would be left with Dale Murphy and maybe a couple deadball guys that weren't virulent racists. Well I would be fine clearing 100 plaques for those reasons but I cant change that. My whole point was I just dont want to see all these players from MY generation be hailed at the doors of Cooperstown like they're something special when everyone knows they cheated and they're keeping who knows out who played the game straight up. Fair or not, to me they gave up the right to have a "fair" shot at the HOF when they took PEDs.
  4. I dont think anyone can answer the question of where to draw the line. However, to compare a spitball and the like to steriods is a problem IMO. It's one thing to feel pressure to alter a ball and another completely to have to take something that can affect your body for the rest of your life just to keep up with the competition when you're good enough to play clean. Personally I dont give a crap about the hall of fame. It's a cool place to visit but I could honestly care less who is or isnt in it. I just hate to see people who have cheated in such a blatant way be honored for anything. It just goes against everything I was taught growing up.
  5. From that argument, why is it so important to keep the old field? If you are just there to watch the game, why do you need the ivy, the bleachers, etc.? Because the way the bleachers shape the dimensions of the field and the way the ivy affects the play of the ball IMO add to the game. Those other things provide a distraction to the game. So it's the dimensions of Wrigley that make it great?. Tiny foul space, wind having a huge affect day to day, deep lines and too-short power alleys. Those are not the elements of a park that shapes great baseball. The tall grass is nice, though. Shape great baseball in the opinion of who? And I didnt mean that I like the way it plays necessarily by saying it adds to the game. I more or less meant it influences the game, something that suites or amenities dont do, which is the answer to your original question.

  7. Unless you're there for something other than watching the game, I'm not sure what benefits the amenities of a new stadium brings to the fans(outside of the bathroom situation). Obviously adding all these clubs and suites and what not for people that just want to drink and socialize would generate revenue for the team, but that doesnt really affect the baseball fan other than possibly having a better team to watch. I really wouldnt mind a rebuild, but I just dont see how it would work. As said before, theres no room on the current plot to build anything bigger than whats there now. To build a new stadium in another part of town and take the Cubs out of Wrigleyville wouldnt go over well at all.
  8. Ugh Fox up and we still get to see Miles in the lineup. I know I know Fox cant play 3rd, but for a team struggling to find offense, Id say to hell with the D right now with Z on the mound, and a lefty pitching. I really dont like Soriano and Bradley playing with the really wet OF, but I understand why they are in there. agreed. I feel better though about the conditions on the new field than i did with the old one.
  9. I have come to live with the streaks of Soriano, but his half assing, terrible route running, cant field a ground ball cleanly 2 steps from him in the OF ass is starting to really annoy me in LF. The guy isnt hitting, fine, he will get hot and hit. But, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, play some freaking defense out there. My thoughts exactly. He looks like he just doesnt care in the field.
  10. oh come on guys let the reds fan have his day in the june sun. remember this team is their best in lord knows how long.
  11. Leaving Fox in was the right move. Rhodes was ready in the pen if they brought in Fuku or Hoffpauir. I like Fox vs a righty much better than Fuku or Hoff against a lefty that has been dominant this season. exactly.
  12. It was hilarious to watch Reed run to RF from CF and call off Fox on balls hit almost directly at him. Evidently they didnt want Fox fielding anything.
  13. Is it normal for pitchers who only miss 2 starts to do a rehab start in the minors? I honestly have no idea. Not necessarily, but its better he do a rehab start to see if the problem will reappear in a game rather than have to make a roster move and him have problems in a mlb game and have to be out another 2 weeks minimum.
  14. This is the 3rd time this year(counting spring training) hes been hurt, right? I just dont understand how someone could be so fragile.
  15. Hendry likely didn't want Hudson because he doesn't have the reputation of being able to play SS. Miles has that rep. I don't agree with that line of thinking, but it's likely what Hendry thought. Heh. Miles doesn't have the reputation to bat 3rd either, but Hudson sure is doing it. I can't knock Hendry on Hudson. Hudson is about as injury prone as Bradley. That's probably why Hudson ended up getting such a cheap contract. But, Hendry sure can make deals that swing back around and smack him in the back of the head so hard that he can't see straight for weeks on end. I wasn't the biggest fan of Hendry's offseason moves, but he's gotten some awful luck as well. There was no reason to think Bradly would perform this poorly, same with Marmol, Soto should be at least a decent amount better and Soriano's awful slump is getting a bit out of the ordinary. I thought injuries would hurt us if anything did this season, but some unexpected poor performances have really made things look worse than they should be. Agreed.
  16. Soto has been terrible with the bat and throwing runners out, but he hasnt been letting balls pass the whole year.
  17. This game was just 1 of 3 that Gregg has crapped on already this year. When you factor in that he throws a minimum of 25 pitches per appearance because he gets behind in the count to everyone, it makes him very hard to like or even watch. Whether you like him or he's hard to watch or whatever, he had to get 4 outs in the 9th because Soto didn't block strike 3 and it cost them 2 runs.....I know blaming the closer is the cool thing to do, but if you blame this loss entirely on Kevin Gregg you don't know much about baseball or didn't watch the game I'm certainly not letting anyone else off the hook or blaming Gregg entirely, but this kind of performance has been more common from him than Soto so far.
  18. This team, in its current state, is definitely bad.

  20. kevin gregg is the hardest pitcher to watch.
  21. You gonna share or you gonna keep it to yourself ?? He basically knew nothing about Waddell. He didnt ask questions in a "i know this but for the listeners at home" manner. He really seemed to know nothing about him.
  22. :-)) @ Ron's interview with Waddell
