  1. Definitely interested at the right price. Same, could he be a option for 3B?
  2. I know you play to get the sure out there, but Beltre may have been able to get the runner at home.
  3. How is that not a strike, he never pulled the bat back.
  4. Josh Hamilton is my favorite Ex-Cub. Now we know why Hendry traded him, so he could keep the Cards from winning a world series.
  5. Really McCarver??? "Even though the Rangers were in their no doubles defense they allow a double and the tying run to score." That ball was a [expletive] laser hit off the [expletive] wall and was 1-2 ft. away from being a HR. You dumb [expletive].
  6. :yahoo: \:D/ :yahoo:
  7. Kinsler should do Napoli a favor and just hit a HR here so he can crawl home if he pleases.
  8. Wilken is probably a very solid scout. But Wilken's job is to run the draft. And the Cubs just brought in a guy whose job is to run the draft. I'm sure the Cubs would be happy to keep him, but my guess is Wilken would prefer to be his own boss again. I am sure that's the position Wilken prefers, but it's a pretty scarce job. How many MLB teams right now are actively seeking someone to run their drafts? McLeod/Theo can put him in a role where he is still virtually his own boss, like executive president of scouting/talent evaluation, the only thing that really changes is come draft time his opinion/pick isn't the final word but just something that goes into the whole equation when selecting a draft pick.
  9. I'd be on board with locking up Garza with a 4-5 year deal this offseason. What do you think it would take? Something like Dempster's deal? Too little or too much?

  11. What injury(s) did Sizemore have this year? Based on his recovery/extent of injuries he wouldn't be a bad gamble for RF, if they deem Jackson needs another year or half year in the minors.
  12. You do realize that they'll be signing Fielder or Pujols to more than a 1 year contract right? And that there's not any other elite level 1st basemen on the market in the next few years or near ready guys in the system? What do you propose they do for first base production on 2013-2015 if they don't sign one of them? This isn't about 2012. It's about getting a core of very good players in place to be competitive as soon as possible, whether that ends up being 2012 or 2013 doesn't matter, but you need a big bat in the middle of the lineup to make that happen and those 2 guys fit the bill. Votto is a FA after this season I believe. If we can't get Pujols I would at least think about passing on Fielder this offseason and finding a 1 year stop gap for first base again. Then go nuts next offseaon, with all the money coming off the books, we could sign Votto, Kemp, and Hamels and have a payroll about where it is now with those 3. I thought Votto was a free agent after 2013, but I might be wrong. He is, I messed up the years. Thought he was after this year since the Reds were rumored to be open to trading him.

  14. :-k Apparently slicked backed means balding on top and short hair in the back these days http://media.spokesman.com/photos/2011/09/17/spt_17_sandberg_bb_page_t210.jpg?74a72ef94756bccc16ea1c78066b52f96b62dbc7
  15. Well according to Wittenmyer and Sullivan Kenney doesn't even know what he does other than [expletive] [expletive] up and piss people off all while secretly trying to take over the baseball operations side of the cubs under the guise of being the president of the executive management side of the cubs.
  16. Watching both those botched hit and run calls might be better than seeing Holliday taking a ball to the nuts in the playoffs last year.
  17. I don't think I have ever seen that before, bringing in a pitcher just to intentionally walk a guy then bring in a new one to pitch to the next batter.
  18. Ryan Theriot and Nick Punto are batting back to back this inning for a team 2 wins away from a WS victory. That is all.
  19. Hey, when it goes wrong it is just because the players did not execute. Craig should have run faster. I love Buck and McCarver making excuses for him. Basically trying to say Craig stole on his own or misread a sign, there's no way it was a stupid [expletive] call by LaRussa trying to micromanage like always.
  20. Don't you just love it when LaRussa pushes those buttons!
  21. That's the thing, I'm wondering if we'd be able to buy RF that season. Off the top of my head, we could be looking at $85-95 million tied up in 5 players in 2013 (assuming roughly $15 million for Upton and Garza, each, just to use a number). That would give us less something like $70-80 million to fill 20 other roster spots. Can we put another $10+ million into an Ethier or Ichiro at that point? Maybe we can, but I'd want to know for sure how open with the pocketbook Ricketts will be before I feel good about that scenario. I really hope we aren't giving a 40 year old Ichiro a contact where he's making $10m annually in 2013
  22. Why do Wittenmyer and Sullivan seem to think that Kenney has his hands on the baseball operation side of things (FA signings/trades/scouting/transactions/etc.) when everything seems to point that all he does is things on the business side (finance/marketing/promotions/public relations/etc)? He seems to get great praise for everything he is doing and has done on the business end so I don't see a problem with keeping him around. The most he is likely involved in the baseball operations end is probably setting the payroll/budget and telling the GM how much he has to spend on various things (FA, re-signings, minor leagues, etc.). That's hardly getting in the way or trying to steal and do the job of GM, that's just business and making sure the money being spent and allocated on baseball operations fits within the budget and they can run the overall organization at a profit (or at least not at huge losses).
  23. Agreed. I could see them valuing him more than Wilson and making him their #1 priority.
  24. I saw this and looked up Gates' stats from past seasons. His 05 season was really good, 89 rec, 1101 yds, 10 tds. And I also didn't realize how ridiculous his season was last year, he only played 10 games but had 50 rec, 782 yds, 10 tds and 15.7 ypc his numbers last season would have been unreal if he played a full 16 games.
