  1. In the Dodgers defense, they didn't have the new ownership group/TV deal in place when Soler/Cespedes/Darvish were available.
  2. I just hope that we can start spending like the Dodgers, who have nabbed....2 for 6. and everybody else in baseball. If the Cubs were spending money in other areas you'd have a point, but they aren't, so you don't. New Dominican baseball facilities/academy, upgrades throughout Wrigley (RF wall/bleachers), technology upgrades for FO (put in that system so any one of the FO guys can stream any minor league game remotely and pull up video on any guy, development of new analysis software/hardwar), hiring more scouts/player development/talent evaluators, Castro extension, Soler, Concepcion. Money is being spent
  3. Tells me that Phil really didn't want to coach. Yup. He didn't want the publice perception to be that he turned it dow but that the Lakers picked D'Antoni over him so he asked for ridiculous things in their initial talk/negotiations (possibly not going on all road trips, ownership stake, more power over acquisitions, and a very high salary).
  4. Agreed. But I think if someone other than Jackson is brought in they will have an inmates running the asylum type situation going on. The coach will have little influence on playing style and their only role is going to be to make sure the chemistry stays okay and you don't have guys swinging on each other in the locker room.
  5. I'm guessing it's more along the lines of "We have a chance to get Phil back and people close say he's genuinely interested in coaching again, but if he decides in the end he's done with coaching and wants to do his Zen thing, D'antoni is our back up plan."
  6. [expletive] you Dodgers! They are gonna be a thorn in our side moving forward in FA http://i.imgur.com/8lsg2.gif
  7. D'antoni and Phil are the two finalists for the Lakers job, according to sources http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/8612254/phil-jackson-open-nba-coaching-return-sources-say
  8. Doesn't look like Law is a big fan of him. Or at least high on his ability to be a starter.
  9. I wonder if we just have the highest big, or if his Japan team did indeed accept our offer and now we can start negotiating? I would think $25mm+ would be enough for them to accept, so by us winning the bid I assume that means they accepted.
  10. Holy crap...I'm kinda hoping it isn't us. But I also am hoping it's us. I'm conflicted. Yeah, the Bid+Contract is probably going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $50mm for the total investment on him.
  11. I love this Lakers drama and complete overreaction. Who do they think they can possibly get? Your options are Dantoni, Sloan or an assistant interim coach. Sloan is a system type of coach and has a very hard personality to deal with and Dantoni is a choke job. Phil :D
  12. As a Laker fan I like it. I never thought Brown was a good hire or is a good coach, even dating back to his time in Cleveland.
  13. Agree to disagree, but I get that side of the argument
  14. 1 year guaranteed I said, I'd like him so sign a similar deal that we got Maholm on last year (1 year + option year). Get him on a 1 year deal, hope he pitches close to something like he did in 2010 and flip him at the deadline for a few good prospects.
  15. Germano to the Jays via FA. So it's nice knowing he won't be back
  16. That and him figuring out the whole being a decent WR thing Yeah yeah, I know I know. He's not a WR, blah blah. Except that's the position he's playing, and occasionally he does catch a long TD. It doesn't happen as often as it should, but it happens, and with Alshon out and Marshall likely to be double covered by a good defense, this would be a great week for it. Yeah, I was being a bit facetious. I know all it takes is one deep ball to change a game with Hester, but I just hate him as a WR. Not having Alshon and/or a decent 2nd WR option is killing the Bears right now and playing against two good defenses the next two games is/will likely really hurt them. Hopefully they can get creative with Forte and get him the ball in space a lot. Marshall is so good that even if he's double teamed I still expect Jay to get him the ball 7+ times, Jay's ability to not give a [expletive] about throwing a ball into coverage and Marshall's skill is too much to completely shut him down. I wouldn't say not having Jeffery is "killing" a Bears team that has not lost a game without him and scored 37ppoints without him last week. True, and killing was probably a bit of a strong word. But they've also played mostly [expletive] teams without him and the passing game has looked bat at times. I think against better defenses you are going to see the effects of not having him more.
  17. I like Liriano under the right circumstances (only 1 year guaranteed and less than $10mm)
  18. Hopefully USC won't for a very long, long time. Rumors out there on Southern Cal boards that he's gone at the end of the year. So sad. So, USC policy on head coaches: 1) Get caught cheating but in national championship picture: OK 2) Get caught cheating but not in national champ picture: FIRED Ha, isn't that the policy of 99% of the schools in the NCAA?
  19. That and him figuring out the whole being a decent WR thing Yeah yeah, I know I know. He's not a WR, blah blah. 20. Time to step up Earl. Hester could be the x-factor if they could get him a deep ball. That and him figuring out the whole being a decent WR thing
  21. Fangraphs top 15: 1. Baez 2. Almora 3. Soler 4. Maples 5. Vogelbach 6. Vizcaino 7. B. Jackson 8. Szczur 9. Villanueva 10. Vitters 11. M. Hernandez 12. Candelario 13. Lake 14. Underwood 15. T. Martin http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/chicago-cubs-top-15-prospects-2012-13/
  22. http://assets0.ordienetworks.com/images/GifGuide/michael_scott/Michael-What-the-office-10400786-400-226.gif It would be like trying to turn Vogelbach into a CF. I know defensive metrics leave much to be desired, but for his career he's a -7.8 UZR (most of the time in LF). He has played 274 innings in CF (217 in 2005) and is a -14.8 there with his last year he logged any innings there being 2005. He also hasn't had an OPS over .750 since 2009 and he was absolutely awful this past season (70 games)
  23. An Andrus/Olt package might be the trump card, but I think we could match it or top it if we offered Baez/Samardzija/Barney for Bauer and Upton. Not that I'd do that trade, but if we were to make nearly everyone available and Theo really wants Upton/Bauer
  24. Hearing some of this stuff about Baez, which really isn't new, kind of makes me think of Carlos Gomez. Crazy tools all over the place, plays a premium position but takes violent swings and doesn't have much plate discipline. If everything comes together though, you have a top 3 player at the position and top 10-15 player in all of MLB.
