Getting Gordon would be awesome. I'd be willing to give up Shark+ for him. Did they move him off of 3B because they had a spot in the OF for him and 3B was taken or was he bad defensively they had to move him? If he was bad, how bad was he? Like Bruan bad where he never could cut it or like early career Ramirez bad where he could grow into an average to above average defender there? If he could move to 3B and solve that problem for us he becomes very valuable. -
Most of those pitchers sound like they would be worth taking to try out in the bullpen, Fields especially.

I believe this is Goldman Sachs, etc's stake, not the % owned by the Yankees which they are keeping. Perhaps, it's 49% though and supposedly with an opportunity to acquire a majority within a couple years. Those guys wanting out now though is an even stronger signal. Possibly, could also be for tax purposes too. With the increases likely coming in cap gains and the corporate tax they are probably wanting to get out now and pay less in taxes and maximize profits on their gains. This is especially true if the entities selling are on the investment banking side (Goldman, etc.) as they are short term guys anyways whereas a company like Newscorp probably sees this as a long-term investment. If I had to make a guess I'd say this move is likely more an indication of investors seeing the likely tax increases coming and making a decision based off that than an indication of where they think the future of team owned networks is going. -
Apparently the deal was being held up not because of the league deciding if it's something they wanted to allow, but because Reyes was on vacation in Dubai and they had to wait for him to come back to take and pass his physical.

It is dumb, my only guess is that it was negotiated in the labor agreement so guys can use finishing in x spot within the 10 gets them some sort of bonus. The Baseball Writers Association of America labor agreement? No.... The agreement with the union/league. And how would that come into play with the BBWAA voting process? Now that I think of it I doubt the voting process was created by the league/union. They just use the BBWAA rules within their own agreement for compensation/bonuses. Every year you see guys with bonuses in their contracts if they finish in the top 5 of MVP voting.

This would be like calling the Cy Young award the R.A. Dickey Award just because he won it the previous season. I don't know how far back you should go, but let's at least call it the Aaron Miles Award. According to Fangraphs, the Cubs player (pitcher or position player) who has compiled the lowest/worst career WAR is Jiggs Parrot, an 1890's 2B/3B. So I motion to call the award for worst WAR player on the Cubs, "The Jiggs Parrot Award." Respectively. I think they called it stress reaction Are there any pitchers recently who have had that injury/what was their return like/did they see any injuries happen soon after their return? http://bit.ly/ZSjPIE Yeah..... that did nothing. I went to google first to look for answers. All that came up were articles explaining what the injury is and that Garza had it. Nothing about what other pitchers have had it and how they returned from it.

The pennant race/playoff team argument is as dumb as the RBI argument to me, if not more dumb. The Angels were in a "penant race" until about the last 1-2 weeks of the season and had a better record than the Tigers and would have made the playoffs over the Tigers if they were in the same divison.

Do the Braves not like offense? Simmons is good but I'd definitely take Olt over him. No kidding. Olt fills a huge position of need and allows them to get creative with Prado. Tough to turn down a future/long term core of Heyward/Olt/Freeman. I'm guessing the late season tomfoolery that the Rangers pulled with Olt hurt his value in the eyes of some FO's? -
It's a good season to be an average to slightly above average middle relief pitcher, apparently, between the Affeldt and League contracts. Can't imagine what Soriano is going to be asking for after those two contracts.
