I understand the bar for offensive production at catcher is extremely low, but isn't Castillo essentially a platoon catcher? Career .684 vs RHP and poor defensively (at a time when extra value is being placed on defense/framing at the catcher position). Catchers OPSd 689 last year. Hitters OPSd 698 vs. RHP Can you do catchers vs. RHP? Castillo was 23th last year with a .631 OPS vs RHP out of catchers with a 300 PA minimum (he had 317 PA's vs RHP). 23rd is last on the list of catchers with the 300 PA minimum.

I think I'd be fine with a Castillo for Smith trade then signing Ross.

Rondo to the Mavs for a few average players and future picks (1st and 2nd). I know the West is tough but a lineup of Rondo-Eillis-Parsons-Dirk-Chandler could win it, imo. Assuming health. You could get really creative with Rondo-Dirk screens/triangle type offense and Parsons-Ellis cutting/sitting in a corner.

Problem is, we just traded away the guy he should have been platooned with. Don't doubt he has value though and I definitely would love to get him.

I don't know why anyone would think that. They are 100% certain that Bryant is going to play a position he has never played even though he just spent an entire minor league season at 3B? That doesn't make any sense. It makes sense if they r trying to win games and maximize value. Valbuena 3B+Bryant LF > Bryant 3B+Coghlan/Gomes platoon

Not that Ruggiano was great, but our OF kinda sucks now/has major questions. I hope they bring in someone better than Gomes and/or someone who can at least fake it in CF like Ruggiano. Also, if they just sign Gomes after this and add no other OF it tells me they r near 100% certain Bryant is starting in LF once he comes up.

Might want to consider the possibility that SD is trying to add offense by bringing in an OF that doesn't suck and trading one that does, rather than swapping out one good hitter for another. Why on God's green Earth would they want to get rid of Smith? Because none of Myers/Kemp/Smith are CF

Yeah it's not probability of them winning, it's what the betting majority is doing. There's a lot of idiot Cub fans out there who probably put money on them after this and it moved the odds, also I'd guess there's people every year who bet on the Cubs just in case it's the year so they can say they bet on them when they finally do it. IIRC the Cubs betting odds are usually not in line with what's statistically probable for winning because of the amount of dumb money on them.

After looking over his numbers, I kinda really want Fowler. Make him the CF move Alcantara to LF/super sub and use Coghlan/Ruggiano as 4/5 OF. I was up by two before the last Bears last drive with my opponent having Forte and Bennett and was sure garbage time was going to end me. It sealed my win instead (I have Alshon). Whew. Yeah my opponent had Bennet as well, was afraid of those check downs to him Cutler has gone to the last few weeks on late drives.
