  1. Is there some unwritten baseball rule that when you’re set up to sweep a series that you have to completely take your foot off the gas? No Bryant available, Happ and Vic looked like horsefeathers vs lefties the other night and Vic has looked rough in general. You don’t want Kipnis or Heyward facing lefties and all those guys can come in once a RHP comes in if there’s a big AB.
  2. Didnt we have a pretty dominant bullpen from 15 to 18? I think one year they were looking really good and got hit with a slew of injuries which led to a few blown games (maybe 18?). It feels like it's been varying degrees of butt for going on a third straight season now. But I could easily be wrong. 2015-19 Cubs relievers have the 11 most WAR, 3rd lowest ERA, 8th lowest FIP, 7th lowest xFIP. Top 10 in ERA every year since 2015, top 10 and FIP, xFIP and WAR every year since 2015 except 2019. Tied for 3rd with the Astros behind Dodgers and Yankees for lowest bullpen ERA 2017-2019. The sucky bunch of sucks out there have always gotten it done when they tried starting to win in 2015.
  3. Contract the Marlins & Cardinals There should be serious repercussions for the Marlins and Cardinals if the stories are true about how reckless both teams have been that lead to the contraction and spread of the virus. Teams/Owners/Manfred have fucked up plenty, but the players deserve blame too. They still have to take responsibility and be horsefeathering adults and not make stupid decisions that can put them, their teammates and the league in danger. Hopefully the hall monitor/babysitters MLB is putting in place and other protocols stops the nonsense behavior leading to big spread events.
  4. No. Chatwood isn’t going to the pen unless he breaks and becomes wild thing again. Q in the pen makes more sense and/or go 6-man rotation and/or go opener/piggy back starts with Q and Mills.
  5. It allegedly is, nobody knows it or calls it that though. I went to college in Milwaukee and one of my gen ed classes was a history of Milwaukee course basically. A lot of the original brick to build buildings in the city was “cream city brick” and hence the “cream city”* nickname. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. *Living in Wisconsin for 32 years I’ve never actually heard anyone refer to Milwaukee as “cream city” and basically forgot it was a thing until the Bucks started wearing these jerseys.
  6. He still missed bats and got Ks last year. But he also walked a ton of dudes and gave up a ton of dongs, so he will fit right in. FB velo is down a good 2 ticks but he upped his curve usage. Maybe they think they can tinker with the curve like they have with others. He’s probably done and sucks but worth trying out in SB I suppose. I’d hope Megill, Adbert and Steele are all ahead of him to get bullpen looks.
  7. Including tonight there were 11 more games before our first off day, even though they showed up and got a little loose it’s still kinda an off day. Only 1 series left in Cincy at end of August for 3 games over a weekend so probably a DH then but we have off the Thursday before and Reds don’t. Not a terrible schedule break grabbing a pseudo off day here with 10 more games starting tomorrow before one.
  8. I guess silver lining for now is it doesn’t seem like it spread on the playing field to Phillies players by the Marlins.
  9. That definitely was the plan and over 162 things probably would’ve been sorted out with a few arms internally and 1-3 acquired arms that a solid pen is formed. In 60 games/not having a full spring, it’s tough and basically impossible to go with that plan unless a few guys just catch heaters. Wonder what a trade deadline is going to look like, gonna assume it's not much with over half the league making the playoffs. Even the Marlins might not be out by then given their week off here. Ian Kennedy is one of my main bullpen targets, I’d imagine he’s available for the right piece(s).
  10. Win tomorrow, idiots. 3 out of 4 this series isn’t insignificant in putting some distance between us and the Reds.
  11. Pedro, Hector, Marshall they all kinda developed Strop had 126 MLB innings pitched over 4.5 seasons before coming to the Cubs including an all star caliber season with Baltimore in 2012 Am I having the ultimate brain fart on Marshall or did you mean Sean Marshall who had been with the Cubs since 2006 and was traded before he ever played a game under Theo? Rondon is a good call and now that I’m thinking obviously their greatest development was getting Jake into a cy young pitcher. But overall the track record isn’t great at all imo I thought we were just talking RPs. But yeah Jake and Hedricks too. I didn’t realize Pedro was decent for a year or two before coming over, I thought he was bad like Jake. But I guess they identified him. I meant Sean Marshall and Theo traded him, did he not? After they turned him in to a bullpen arm full time and he was successful? But yeah the overall track record isn’t great but he’s always built decent pens once they tried to win starting in 2015. 2015-19 Cubs relievers have the 11 most WAR, 3rd lowest ERA, 8th lowest FIP, 7th lowest xFIP.

  14. All those guys horsefeathering suck too and had terrible peripherals last year and/or diminished stuff. Would you trade what we have now for the five I listed? No. Wick, Ryan and probably some combo of Tepera/Jeffress/Sadler/random guy is better than those 5.
  15. Who are you referring to? Cishek, Strop, Chavez, Kintzler. Montgomery traded for basically nothing, All those guys horsefeathering suck too and had terrible peripherals last year and/or diminished stuff.
  16. Cycle out the complete horsefeathers like Brothers for someone else and see if there’s someone like Megill who can be a thing. Sadler/Tepera/Ryan/Wick/Jeffress and 1 of Q/Chatwood/Mills once Q is back is probably a good enough, even though frustrating, core to get the job done.
  17. Let Brothers pitch the rest of the game then cut him and bring someone up from South Bend
  18. Go get em tomorrow and we more than did our job in the series
  19. Which gas can would you like to see replace him? Don’t care. He doesn’t have it, save some pitches.
  20. Pull him, he’s getting hit hard and missing up
